  • This paper described the ultimate strength and deformation limit of welded T-joints in cold-formed square hollow sections. Previous studies showed that the strength of a T-joint still increases with increasing deformations at a ratio of branch width to chord width (${\beta}$) of below 0.8. Therefore, the strength at a certain deformation (chord flange indentation) limit can be regarded as the ultimate strength of a T-joint. The chord flange failure modes were investigated for the ratio of branch width to chord width (${\beta}$) and the ratio of chord width to chord web thickness (B/T). Experimental results including tests done by Kato proposed a deformation limit of 3%B for $16.7{\leq}B/T{\leq}41.6$ and $0.27{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}0.8$. The strength formula of CIDECT and other researchers were compared with the test results. Finally, the strength formula based on yield-line theory was proposed.

  • This study performs a yield line analysis of welded T-joints in cold-formed Square Hollow Sections (SHS) with the branch in axial compression. The existing yield line models proposed by Koto, Packer, Zhao, and CIDECT and the proposed yield line model of the previous study are compared, using the existing test results of welded T-joints in cold-formed SHS. The yield line model suggested in the previous paper, which is based on the simplified yield line analysis, is reviewed to evaluate its application limit on cold-formed SHS T-joints. In the proposed model, the round corner of the cold-formed SHS section and weld size are taken into account. Finally, the validity range of yield line analysis is determined by observing the actual failure modes and comparing the test value with the analysis value, set as ${\beta}^{\prime}{\leq}0.8$ where ${\beta}^{\prime}=0.8$, ${\beta}^{\prime}=b_1^{\prime}/b_0^{\prime}$, $b_1{^{\prime}}=b_1+t_0$ and $b_0{^{\prime}}=b_0-t_0$.

  • The effect of temperature on the forming limit diagram was investigated for AZ31B magnesium alloy sheet through the limit dome height test in the range from room temperature to $300^{\circ}C$. The formability of AZ31B sheet was improved significantly according to the increasing temperature. Also we studied the springback characteristics through the 2D draw bending test with different blank holding forces at elevated temperatures. Springback quantity was considerably reduced as temperature went up. The blank holding force in the range used, however, had little influence on springback. Experimental results obtained in this study may provide a material database for AZ31B sheet.

  • This paper described the ultimate strength and deformation limit of welded T-joints in cold-formed square hollow sections. Previous studies showed that the T-joint has an obvious peak load. with the failure mode of chord-web buckling at a ratio of branch width to chord width ($\beta$) of above 0.8. Similar to a T-joint with chord-flange failure mode, the strength at a certain deformation limit can be regarded as the ultimate strength of a T-joint Based on the experimental results including tests done by Kato and Zhao, the deformation limit was proposed as 3%B for $10.7{\leq}2{\gamma}(B/T){\leq}42.3$ and $0.8{\leq}{\beta}{\leq}1.0$. The strength formula of CIDECT and those of other researchers were also compared with the test results. Finally, the strength formula based on the column buckling was proposed.

  • This paper described the ultimate strength and deformation limit of the new uniplanar T-joints in cold-formed square hollow sections. In the configuration of the new T-joint, only a branch member is orientated to a chord member at 45 degrees in the plane of the truss. This study focused on the branch-rotated T-joints that were governed by chord flange failure in previous studies. Test results of the T-joint in cold-formed square hollow sections revealed a deformation limit of 3%B for $16.7{\leq}2{\gamma}(=B/T){\leq}33.3$ and $0.27{\leq}{\beta}(=b1/B){\leq}0.6$. The existing strength formulae for traditional T-joint were determined and a new yield-line model for the branch-rotated T-joint proposed. Finally, the strength formula on the yield-line analysis was compared with test results and the application range of the proposed formula recommended.

  • Periodic replacement policies are proposed for a system whose repair cost, when it fails, can be estimated by inspection. The system is replaced when it reaches age T (Policy A), or when it fails for the first time after age T (Policy B). If it fails before reaching age T, the repair cost is estimated and minimal repair is then undertaken if the estimated cost is less than a predetermined limit L; otherwise, the system is replaced. The expected cost rate functions are obtained, their behaviors are examined, and ways of obtaining optimal T and L are explored.

  • Let ${X_i}$ be a process with stationary and independent increments whose log characteristic function is expressed as $ibut-2^{-1}\sigma^2u^2t+t\int_{{0 }^c}{(exp(iux)-1-iux(i+x^2)^{-1})dv(x)}$. Our main result is taht $x^2(\int_{\y\>x}{dv(y)})/(\int_{$\mid$y$\mid$\leqx}{y^2dv(y)+\sigma^2}) \to 1$ as $x \to 0 (resp. x \to \infty)$ is necessary, and sufficient for ${X-i}$ to have ${A_t}$ and ${B_t}$ such that $(X_t-A_t)/B_t \to^D n(0,1)$ as $t \to 0 (resp. t \to \infty)$.

  • Let {<$\mathds{X}_t$} be an m-dimensional linear process of the form $\mathbb{X}_t\;=\sumA,\mathbb{Z}_{t-j}$ where {$\mathbb{Z}_t$} is a sequence of stationary m-dimensional negatively associated random vectors with $\mathbb{EZ}_t$ = $\mathbb{O}$ and $\mathbb{E}\parallel\mathbb{Z}_t\parallel^2$ < $\infty$. In this paper we prove the central limit theorems for multivariate linear processes generated by negatively associated random vectors.

  • In order to determine creep stress intensity limit of high-temperature components, the usefulness of the creep work and time equation, defined as W$\_$c/t$\^$p/ = B(where W$\_$c/ = $\sigma$$\varepsilon$ is the total creep work done during creep, and p and B are constants), was investigated using the experimental data. For this Purpose, the creep tests for generating 1.0% strain for commercial type i16 stainless steel were conducted with different stresses; 160 MPa, 150 MPa, 145 MPa, 140 MPa and 135 MPa at 593$^{\circ}C$. The plots of log W$\_$c/ - log t showed a good linear relation up to 10$\^$5/ hr, and the results of the creep work-time relation for p, B and stress intensity values showed good agreement to those of isochronous stress-strain curves (ISSC) presented in ASME BPV NH. The relation can be simply obtained with only several short-term 1% strain data without ISSC which can be obtained by long-term creep data. Particularly, this relation is useful in estimating stress intensity limit for new and emerging class of high-temperature creeping materials.
