The purpose of this study was to analyze the prevalence and awareness of diabetes in 300 Korean adults aged 30 to 49 with diabetes, and to identify the factors influencing it. For data analysis, the composite sample frequency and percentage, χ2-test, and logistic regression analysis were performed using the SPSS 25.0 program. Among the diabetic patients, 171 patients (57.0%) recognized that they had diabetes, and the factors influencing cognition were gender, education level, BMI, subjective health status, cardiovascular disease, and paternal and maternal family history. Based on the results of this study, it can be used as basic data to establish policies and intervention programs that reduce the prevalence of diabetes in relatively young people aged 30 to 49 years and increase awareness among those with diabetes in Korea.

The participants were 145 nurses working in hospice care center of hospitals in Korea. Data were collected during May and June in 2018 and were analyzed with descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple hierarchecal regression analysis using SPSS 24.0 program. Attitude of terminal care was influenced by hospice specialist certification (β=.15, p=.031), bioethics awareness (β=-.24, p=.003), and patient-centered care (β=.36, p<.001) in the regression model. These variables explained 36.9% of attitude of terminal care. In order to improve the attitude of terminal care of hospice nurses, programs for improving patient-centered care competence including bioethics awareness should be provided.

  • Background: This study investigated the awareness and utilization of maternity protection and work-family balance support policies among dental hygienists in dental hospitals and clinics. Methods: We surveyed 200 dental hygienists. Twenty-two who did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded, leaving 178 participants for analysis. The self-administered 48-item questionnaire gathered information on demographics, workplace details, policy awareness, government knowledge, and suggestions for improvement. Results: Awareness of maternity and family support programs significantly differed with age, marital status, number of children, and clinical experience. Dental hygienists in general hospitals and university hospitals reported greater ease of utilizing these policies compared to those in dental clinics. Among the participants, 27.7% took pre- and post-maternity leave, 26.6% took parental leave, 16.9% had reduced working hours during pregnancy, 15.8% had reduced working hours during childhood, and 8.5% during family leave. To promote program uptake, participants suggested mandatory implementation across workplaces (68.4%), expanded support for substitute workers (48.6%), and increased education and promotion of government support (42.4%). Conclusion: While most dental hygienists were aware of the Maternity Protection and Work-Family Balance Assistance Policy, utilizing it proved challenging due to several factors. Organizational policies or practices may not fully implement this policy, while workplace culture could discourage its use. Unfair treatment and the lack of available substitutes further hindered access. To prevent career interruptions for dental hygienists due to pregnancy, childbirth, childcare, and family care, and to maintain career continuity, the dental community and government should establish a multifaceted social support system. This system should prioritize several key areas: strengthening policy promotion, fostering a family-friendly atmosphere, improving management and supervision of policy implementation and developing a robust support system for substitute personnel.

Additionally, it aimed to identify the factors influencing the performance of standard precautions. Methods: Data were collected through a descriptive survey conducted between June 10 and July 9, 2023. The participants included 208 nurses working in the emergency department in Korea. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WINdows software version 29.0, based on the frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression. Results: The analysis based on the participants' general characteristics showed that performance of standard precautions varied significantly according to age (t=2.10, p=.036), size of the emergency department (F=7.46, p<.001), average number of patients treated per day while working in the past month (t=-3.88, p<.001) and standard precautions training experience (t=2.16, p=.032). The main factors influencing the performance of standard precautions among nurses working in the emergency department are awareness of patient safety management (β=.62, p<.001), resilience (β=.18, p=.042), and age (β=-.15, p=.007), with a total explanatory power of approximately 46.0%. Conclusion: It is necessary to establish programs and an effective education system to increase resilience and awareness in patient safety management to improve the performance of standard precautions among nurses working in the emergency department.

The subjects in this study were 738 dental hygiene students at colleges located in four different large regions. As for the concept of sexual harrassment, the students got 4.33 out of a possible five in that regard, which was a high score. But they got a relatively lower score of 3.42 in awareness of the causes of sexual harrassment. They got the highest score of 4.42 in physical sexual harrassment among different types of sexual harrassment. Regarding the offender of sexual harrassment, they got 2.81 out of a possible five, which was lowest among their scores in the items of sexual harrassment awareness. There were statistically significant differences in sexual harrassment awareness according to gender, age, grade and religion. The above-mentioned findings of the study illustrated that the dental hygiene students were well aware of sexual harrassment in general, but that the way they coped with it was quite passive. The development of educational programs on how to prevent sexual harrassment and cope with it is required to spread better awareness of sexual harrassment among college students and to encourage them to properly cope with it.

  • There has been 10 years since the Health Promotion Act was legislated. The government began to establish a health promotion fund on the basis of Health Promotion Act in 1995, and to manage and operate the fund from 1998. It is evaluated that health promotion program have had various outcomes in many aspects. First, there has been growing awareness of the impotance of health promotion through the establishment of Health Plan 2010 and the effort to actualize the Plan. Second, the importance of securing health equity and identifying health determinants have been recognized during the planning process of Health Plan 2010. Third, the health promotion program have mainly focused on improving healthy life style of the population. As a result, desirable health behavior change of the population could be expected from the result of 2005 National Health and Nutrition Survey. Fourth, public health centers began to play a crucial role in implementing health promotion programs, and began to build infrastructure for health promotion programs. Fifth, management efficiency of private health related organizations have been improved. Finally, training for health promotion personnel and their participation in the program could be the foundation for the higher level of outcome achievement from the health promotion programs. Important challenges for future health promotion would be identification of the determinants and risk factors of health, formulating plan of regional health promotion programs, building infrastructure for health promotion, creation of specific action model by public health center, development of health promotion program for the elderly, conducting research for evidence concerning major factors reducing the need for health care through prevention disease activities, and establishment of evaluation and feed back system for health promotion programs.

  • The research purpose outlined emphasizes the growing need for systematic and professional disaster education for nurses and nursing students, driven by the increasing occurrence of natural and large-scale social disasters. The study, a systematic literature review, analyzed the effects of educational interventions in disaster education targeting this demographic. The research method involved a literature search in major Korean databases using keywords related to disaster, education programs, and simulations. The findings highlighted that most programs utilized a combination of theoretical lectures, simulations, and debriefing methods, with intervention times ranging from less than 2 hours to between 40 and 56 hours. The primary outcomes measured were disaster nursing preparedness and performance abilities, with the programs showing positive effects on variables such as disaster nursing readiness, performance ability, attitude, knowledge, awareness, learning self-efficacy, practice satisfaction, and confidence in disaster nursing. The study suggests the importance of designing programs that offer participants realistic learning experiences through diverse intervention times and methods and emphasizes the need to verify the effectiveness of these programs.
