A Study on Navigational Risk Control with Even Risk Contour (등위험곡선을 이용한 항해위험제어에 관한 연구)

  • In the decision of a collision avoidance action for navigators and intelligent ships, it is necessary to evaluate the degree of surrounding risks and to control them effectively. In this paper, we propose the new methodology for navigational risk evaluation and control at sea. In the methodology, navigation risk is evaluated in two dimensions using Even Risk Contour on the basis of the concept of contour line. In addition, the movement information of dangerous targets is assessed continuously and precisely with wide band data. The presented technique is useful for the safety navigation at the heavy traffic sea and will be applied for the ultra automatic ship.

  • 본 연구는 근접상황의 선박 간 충돌회피시스템을 개발하기 위한 연구로서 근거리 조우상황에서 발생하는 선박충돌사고를 감소시키기 위한 선박충돌회피 설계방법을 제시한다. 이 설계모델은 레이다(Radar), 선박자동식별장치(AIS : Automatic Identification System)와 자동조타장치(Autopilot)를 충돌회피시스템에 연계하여 선박 간 충돌 사고를 사전에 예측하고 자동회피 방법을 제안한 것이다.

  • 이 논문에서 제시된 2D Map-Based Navigation (MBN)은 다중 사용자 환경의 가상공간을 이동할 때, 실세계와 유사한 이동방법을 제공하여 사용자로 하여금 가상공간에 대한 현장감 및 현실감의 제고에 초점을 두었다. MBN은 사용자들이 가상공간에서 발생하기 쉬운 spatial loss를 방지하고, 이동 시 부가적인 입력이 없이도 일정한 속도로 이동을 지원하는 Automatic Constant-velocity Navigation, 이동중 장애물 및 다른 사용자(아바타)와의 충돌현상을 감지 및 회피하는 Collision Detection and Avoidance, 그리고 충돌회피 후 기존 방향으로의 계속된 이동을 지원하는 Path Adjustment 등의 기능을 제공한다. MBN은 spatial loss의 방지, 사용자의 부가적인 노력의 감소 및 병행작업의 보장, 현실과 유사한 사용자 중심의 navigation 기법의 제공, 그리고 가상공간과 현실과의 괴리를 줄임으로써 가상현실이 추구하는 현실감 및 현장감을 높일 수 있도록 하였다. 실험을 통하여 본 연구에서 제안한 MBN이 사용자 중심의 매우 자연스럽소, 쉽고 편리한 가상공간 navigation 인터페이사라는 평가를 얻었다.

The method for the development of digital-ship (디지털 선박의 구현방안)

  • Digital-ship is the next-generation ship with an one-man bridge system which consists of INS(Intelligent Navigation System), AIS(Automatic Identification System), and IMIT(Integrated Maritime Information Technology). INS implements the functions is related of the ship's navigation, and supports in the digital GIS environments optimal route planning, stranding and a collision avoidance among the ship, an economic navigation, and an integrated control of ship's engine. AIS prevents the ship's collision by means of transmitting periodically the own ship's information to the other ship or the shore control center. IMIT systems supports the integrated fiat-form in ships, the communication between a ship and a control center of the land using the INMARSAT, OrbComm, Ocean Observation Satellite, and etc. The satellite communication in ships can monitor the ship at an earth control renter. This paper deals with the method for system implementation of digital-ship and the detailed sub-system.

  • Aircraft midair collisions are dangerous events that can cause massive casualties. To prevent this, civil aviation has mandated the installation of TCAS (ACAS), which is becoming more sophisticated with the help of new technologies. However, there are institutional problems in collecting data for TCAS research in Korea, limiting the ability to obtain data for personal research. ADS-B and Mode-S automatic broadcast various information about the flight status of the aircraft. This data also contains information about TCAS RA, which can be used by anyone to find examples of TCAS RA operation. We used the databases of ADS-B Exchange and Opensky-Network to acquire data and visually represent three TCAS RA cases through Python coding. We also identified domestic TCAS cases in the first half of 2023 and analyzed their characteristics to confirm the usefulness of the data.

  • This paper presents a algorithm for automatic target recognition robust to the influence of the flame in order to track the target by EOTS(Electro-Optical Targeting System) equipped on UAV(Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) when there is aerial target or marine target with flame at the same time. The proposed method converts infrared images of targets and flames into a gradient vector field, and applies each gradient magnitude to a polynomial curve fitting technique to extract polynomial coefficients, and learns them in a shallow neural network model to automatically recognize targets and flames. The performance of the proposed technique was confirmed by utilizing the various infrared image database of the target and flame. Using this algorithm, it can be applied to areas where collision avoidance, forest fire detection, automatic detection and recognition of targets in the air and sea during automatic flight of unmanned aircraft.

Analysis for Traffic Accident of the Bus with Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) (첨단안전장치 장착 버스의 사고사례 분석)

  • Recently a traffic accident of heavy duty vehicles under the mandatory installation of ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) is often reported in the media. Heavy duty vehicle accidents are normally occurring a high number of passenger's injury. According to report of Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, FCW (Forward Collision Warning) and AEB (Automatic Emergency Braking) were associated with a statistically significant 12% reduction in the rate of police-reportable crashes per vehicle miles traveled, and a significant 41% reduction in the rear-end crash rate of large trucks. Also many countries around the world, including Korea, are studying the effects of ADAS installation on accident reduction. Traffic accident statistics of passenger vehicle for business purpose in TMACS (Traffic safety information Management Complex System in Korea) tends to remarkably reduce the number of deaths due to the accident (2017(211), 2018(170), 2019(139)), but the number of traffic accidents (2017(8,939), 2018(9,181), 2019(10,095)) increases. In this paper, it is introduced a traffic accident case that could lead to high injury traffic accidents by being equipped with AEB in a bus. AEB reduces accidents and damage in general but malfunction of AEB could occur severe accident. Therefore, proper education is required to use AEB system, simply instead of focusing on developing and installing AEB to prevent traffic accidents. Traffic accident of AEB equipped vehicle may arise a new dispute between a driver's fault and vehicle defect. It is highly recommended to regulate an advanced event data recorder system.

MAC Protocol Design for Visual Light LAN using LED Light (LED 조명 기반의 무선 가시광 LAN 통신을 위한 MAC 프로토콜 설계)

  • In this paper, we propose a MAC protocol for visible light wireless LAN using LED light. The proposed MAC protocol has a function of automatic direction optimization for LED transceiver. There is periodical time slot for broadcasting and registration in the proposed MAC protocol. We used polling method for data transfer in the protocol since visible light is hard to detect carrier and collision by other mobile stations; thus we cannot use CSMA/CD method in visible light LAN. We also amended the MAC frame of IEEE 802.11 to propose a revised version for visible light wireless LAN using LED light. We investigate the performance of the proposed MAC protocol. When the bit rate of physical layer is 100 Mb/s, the net data throughput using the proposed MAC protocol is estimated to 94.386 Mb/s.

Utilization of Planned Routes and Dead Reckoning Positions to Improve Situation Awareness at Sea

  • Understanding a ship's present position has been one of the most important tasks during a ship's voyage, in both ancient and modern times. Particularly, a ship's dead reckoning (DR) has been used for predicting traffic situations and collision avoidance actions. However, the current system that uses the traditional method of calculating DR employs the received position and speed data only. Therefore, it is not applicable for predicting navigation within the harbor limits, owing to the frequent changes in the ship's course and speed in this region. In this study, planned routes were applied for improving the reliability of the proposed system and predicting the traffic patterns in advance. The proposed method of determining the dead reckoning position (DRP) uses not only the ships' received data but also the navigational patterns and tracking data in harbor limits. The Mercator sailing formulas were used for calculating the ships' DRPs and planned routes. The data on the traffic patterns were collected from the automatic identification system and analyzed using MATLAB. Two randomly chosen ships were analyzed for simulating their tracks and comparing the DR method during the timeframes of the ships' movement. The proposed method of calculating DR, combined with the information on planned routes and DRPs, is expected to contribute towards improving the decision-making abilities of operators.

An Automatic Mover for a Double-parked Car (이중 주차된 차량용 자동 이동 장치)

  • In this paper, the problem of a double-parked car has been investigated and a method to solve it is studied. Double parking is very common in a public parking lot with insufficient parking space. If a double-parked car blocked the way, a person needs to push the double-parked car to move it. The problem is that moving a double-parked car with hands is very hard and dangerous, especially for the old and the weak. To solve the above mentioned problem, an automatic mover for a double-parked car is proposed and developed. The basic idea is that a double-parked car can be moved by rolling its one wheel. Two rollers are designed and manufactured, which are used to roll a wheel of a double-parked car. The developed automatic mover has two rollers, two driving wheels, and four castors. It also has several ultrasonic sensors so that it can detect obstacles in the way and prevent possible collision. It is verified through several experiments that the developed automatic mover can move a double-parked car safely and easily.
