고령 환자의 기존 의치를 치과기공소에서 수리한 증례 (Denture repair for elderly patients in dental laboratories: a case report)

  • The need for repairing removable dentures has grown as the population had aged. The direct methods allow existing dentures to be repaired without interrupting their use. However, if patient compliance is low, direct methods may be challenging. Moreover, attaching an artificial tooth to a metal base is a complicated procedure because it necessitates casting a retentive element and soldering it to a metal base. This clinical report describes how to add an artificial tooth to a metal base, reline denture bases, and reestablish occlusion on relined removable dentures using indirect methods. Existing removable dentures were successfully repaired and their service life was efficiently extended using the methods described.

  • A persistent DNA tumor virus infection transforms normal cells into cancer cells by either integrating its genome into host chromosomes or retaining it as an extrachromosomal entity called episome. Viruses have evolved mechanisms for attaching episomes to infected host cell chromatin to efficiently segregate the viral genome during mitosis. It has been reported that viral episome can affect the gene expression of the host chromosomes through interactions between viral episomes and epigenetic regulatory host factors. This mini review summarizes our current knowledge of the tethering sites of viral episomes, such as EBV, KSHV, and HBV, on host chromosomes analyzed by three-dimensional genomic tools.

A vertically split fracture of the marginal tubercle of the zygoma in a 3-year-old boy: a case report

  • Fractures of the zygoma are rarely encountered in pediatric patients. This report presents a case of a 3-year-old child who presented with a vertically split fracture of the marginal tubercle of the zygoma. The marginal tubercle, a bony portion present on the posterior border of the frontal process, assists in attaching the temporalis fascia. This patient was treated surgically with bony fixation using tissue glue. To the best of our knowledge, no cases of fracture of the marginal tubercle of the zygoma have been reported in the literature. Fractures of the marginal tubercle of the zygoma in pediatric patients may be overlooked because of their anatomic location and the musculoskeletal characteristics of these patients. Here, we discuss the clinical features of marginal tubercle fractures of the zygoma.

  • In this paper, we describe a telemetry stimulation system that controls animal-robots. In our system, we send the main control command from PC to the controller embedded in the pigeon based animal-robots. Once the controller receives the control signal, it makes biphasic stimulation pulses to medial forebrain bundle neurons to control the pigeon behavior as we want. We design the embedded controller using CUBLOC, which is lightweight for attaching on the pigeon.

  • In 2022, during a survey of intertidal fauna around Jindo located in the Dadohaehaesang National Park in the South Sea, epizoic hydroids attaching onto seagrass (Zostera sp.) growing on soft sediments were collected. Through taxonomic examination, an unrecorded species, Ectopleura radiata, is newly added to the hydrozoan fauna of Korea. In addition, DNA barcoding for species from Ectopleura and Tubularia clarified the distinction among morphologically indistinguishable species without gonophores. Up to now, only one species, E. crocea, has been reported in Korea. Through this study, a total of two species belonging to genus Ectopleura have been reported in Korean waters so far.

  • Currently, the depth of cracks is measured using ultrasonic detectors in maintenance practice. This method consists of measuring the depth of cracks by attaching ultrasonic depth measuring equipment to the concrete surface, and there are restrictions on the timing and location of the inspection. These limitations can be addressed through the development of image-based crack depth measurement AI technology. If crack depth measurements are made based on images, restrictions on the timing and location of inspections can be lifted because images acquired with simple filming equipment can be used as input information. To efficiently develop these artificial intelligence technologies, it is essential to identify the interrelationship between crack depth measurements and image characteristic information. Thus, this study is a basic study of the development of image-based crack depth measurement AI technology and aims to identify image characteristic information related to crack depth.

  • The research presented in this paper is subject to RC frame that increases seismic capacity by attaching DT(Double T type) steel frame to reinforced concrete column. The object of this study is not only to build experimental database providing necessary information for retrofit column but also to formulate modeling parameters of RC frame retrofitted by DT steel frame through comparing analysis for analytical model predicting inelastic behavior of reinforced concrete members.

  • This study investigates the effect of a protective layer on the level of carbonation resistance of concrete. For the protective layer, a PE film, bubble sheets, double layered bubble sheets and styroform were placed in a mold before placing the concrete. In addition, PE film was retrofitted by attaching on the surface of the substrate concrete with a glue. Results showed that the carbonation depths of the control concrete were 4.6 mm and 5.2 mm at one week and two weeks exposure in an accelerated carbonation chamber, whereas the concrete with all types of protective layer except PE flim did not allow the ingress of carbon dioxide during the same period.

  • Surface Permanent-Magnetic-Synchronous-Generator (SPMSG) discussed in the present study has operational characteristics such as high rotational speed over 1,000 rpm and centrifugal force of 12 kN·m for each magnet. Structure-development analysis for the minimization of rotor-core weights and the maximization of thermal emission is performed by applying the aluminum-laminated cap which combines the advantages of IPM and SPM in order to overcome the difficulty that attaching the magnet to rotor-core only with an adhesive. In this study, the simulations in terms of structure and electromagnetic were performed with the variable parameters such as shape and thickness of laminated-cap and division method of magnet. As a result, condition for minimized centrifugal force with minimum loss is derived.

  • Based on the experience of building 'Waegwan(倭館)' in Busan, Japanese paper wallpapering, the use of square rafters, and the installation of sliding windows were used in the construction of Joseon palaces from the 17th century onwards. Elements that could be applied through observation alone were applied first, and sliding windows that required precise skill acquisition were installed later. 'Yeongchang(影窓)', which refers to a sliding window that brightens an interior, has spread rapidly, and its types and structures have also become more diverse. Gradually, 'Yeongchang' came to refer only to additional windows installed by attaching grooves to the lintel of existing casement windows. The sliding window that is installed independently and acts as an interior partition was renamed 'Chujangja(推障子)'. Japanese architectural elements such as 'Yeongchang' and 'Chujangja' have become an element of traditional Korean architecture.
