Estimation of the Z-R Relation through the Disdrometer for the Coastal Region in the Northeast of Brazil

  • The preliminary results of the study on the physics of rain using disdrometer data are shown for an area located on the northern coastal board of Macei${\acute{o}}$, Alagoas (9$^{\circ}$33'17.24' and 35$^{\circ}$46'54.84' W), at approximately 80 meters above the sea level. The data were obtained during January 2002 using a disdrometer RD-69 (Joss-Waldvogel). After definining the criteria for determining rain type (convective and stratiform), a set of Z-R pairs was analyzed for estimating the Z-R relation for each rain type. The results were quite similar to those for other regions of the globe. This preliminary analysis will be used to study the structure of rain with the meteorological radar as well as to permit a better understanding of the physics of tropical rain.

The study of LISM using the high resolution spectra of the early types stars in the five open clusters

  • This study is aim to understand the distribution and the property of LISM (local interstellar medium) using the high resolution spectra of the 26 early type stars in the five open clusters ( IC 4665, Stephenson 1, Collinder 359, Roslund 5 and Collinder 70). These spectra have been observed by BOES in Bohyunsan observatory from 2009 November to 2011 Feburary, of which resolution is 45,000. We used IRAF for the data reduction (Bias subtraction, Flat-field division, and wavelength calibration) and DECH for the deriving the equivalent widths of 4 interstellar lines - Ca II K (3934${\AA}$), Na I D (5890, 5896${\AA}$) and K I (7698${\AA}$) and the column densities of those elements in LISM toward the clusters. The results of this study provide clues for better understanding of the LISM toward these clusters.

FISS and SDO Observation of a Brightening Event Near a Pore

  • We report a fine scale transient brightening event near a pore boundary with the Fast Imaging Solar Spectrograph (FISS) of the 1.6m Goode Solar Telescope (GST), the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) aboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO), and Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) aboard SDO. The event appears in all AIA extreme ultraviolet bands, also in the two FISS lines, $H{\alpha}$ and Ca II $8542{\AA}$, and lasted for a minute. The brightening occurred at a footpoint of a loop. The conjugate brightening occurred at the other foot point outside the FISS field of view. The brightening near the pore exhibit a redshift of 4.3 km s-1 in the $H{\alpha}$ and about 2.3 km s-1 in Ca II line. Differential emission measure derived from 6 AIA EUV passbands and cloud model fitting of the two FISS lines indicate the temperature increase of between 10,000 and 20 MK at the main event. After the brightening, the upward mass motion appears in the AIA images. We discuss the physical implication of this brightening in the context of magnetic reconnection and coronal heating.

  • 지난 2017년 4월, 젊은 천문학자 모임 (Young Astronomers Meeting, YAM) 정기총회에서 2017-18년도 임원진으로 회장 최두현 회원(세종대학교), 부회장 김진협 회원(연세대학교), 총무 한두리 회원(충남대학교)를 선출하였다. 임원진은 경북대학교 김동현 회원, 경희대학교 박소명 회원, 과학기술연합대학원 박민아 회원, 서울대학교 김소피아 회원을 학교별 운영위원으로 임명하였다. 현 임원진은 본 모임의 온라인 소식지인 <하늘 사랑>을 2017년 가을에 7호, 2018년 봄에 8호를 발간하였다. 이와 더불어 2017년 일본 이시가키에서 개최된 EAYAM에 권유나 회원 외 6명의 회원이 참여하여 동아시아 젊은 천문학자들과 함께 학술 발표 및 교류를 하였다. 2018년 2월에는 We Love Galaxies - Young Astronomers Meet Universe 워크샵을 개최하고 YAM의 지속적인 학술 모임을 위한 기반을 다졌다. 이번 포스터에서는 2017-18년도 동안의 활동 내용을 보고하고 이후의 계획에 대해 논의하려고 한다.

A Destruction Pattern Analysis of a Turbo-Molecular Pump According to the Foreline Clamp Damage in an ICP Dry Etcher for 300 mm Wafers

  • We analyzed the destruction patterns of a turbo-molecular pump (TMP) resulting from its sudden exposure of a foreline to the atmospheric pressure due to a destruction of the foreline connecting clamp of an ICP dry etcher for 300 mm wafers during high-vacuum operation ($5{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr). Unlike in the case of view port's breakage, the TMP's rotor module was crashed inside the chamber. The primary damage resulted from the collision of the blades and stators, and the secondary damage resulted from the breaking of the rotor - driving shaft assembly. The fixing screws of the rotor and axial shaft were bent and broken when the TMP controller output the maximum current even after the crash event. Electrical power consumption analysis of the TMP power controller confirmed it. The stress distributions were analyzed by a finite element method using CFD-ACE+ multi physics software. Rotating inertia of each parts and kinetic energies were calculated as well. 68% of the rotational kinetic energy is deposited by the rotor - shaft module.

해저구릉 위로의 음의 전파를 설명하기 위한 Polar PE의 적용 (Application of the Polar Parabolic Equation Method for Sound Propagation over a Smooth Sea Mountain in the Ocean)

  • 경계조건에 맞는 일련의 연속된 좌표계를 parabolic equation method에 적용한 polar parabolic equation method (Polar PE)는 하나의 곡면이나 언덕이 존재하는 경우 대기에서 음의 전파를 설명하는데 알맞은 수치 이론임이 입증되었다. 본 논문에서는 locally reacting 해저면과 pressure release 해수면의 경계조건을 사용하여 Polar PE 를 수중에서 해저구릉이 존재할 경우에 음의 전파를 설명하는데 적용하였다. 450m 높이의 해저구릉이 존재할 경우, 음의 전파에 관하여 계산하고 그 결과를 살펴보았다. Polar PE 를 수중에 해저구릉이 있는 경우 음의 전파를 계산하는데 적용가능성을 논의하였다.

Reconstruction of gusty wind speed time series from autonomous data logger records

  • The collection of wind speed time series by means of digital data loggers occurs in many domains, including civil engineering, environmental sciences and wind turbine technology. Since averaging intervals are often significantly larger than typical system time scales, the information lost has to be recovered in order to reconstruct the true dynamics of the system. In the present work we present a simple algorithm capable of generating a real-time wind speed time series from data logger records containing the average, maximum, and minimum values of the wind speed in a fixed interval, as well as the standard deviation. The signal is generated from a generalized random Fourier series. The spectrum can be matched to any desired theoretical or measured frequency distribution. Extreme values are specified through a postprocessing step based on the concept of constrained simulation. Applications of the algorithm to 10-min wind speed records logged at a test site at 60 m height above the ground show that the recorded 10-min values can be reproduced by the simulated time series to a high degree of accuracy.

Selecting Characteristic Raman Wavelengths to Distinguish Liquid Water, Water Vapor, and Ice Water

  • The Raman shift of water vapor is 3657 $cm^{-1}$, and this Raman signal can be easily separated from other Raman signals or elastic signals. However, it is difficult to make simultaneous Raman measurements on the three phases of water, namely, ice water, liquid water, and water vapor. This is because we must consider the overlap between their Raman spectra. Therefore, very few groups have attempted to make Raman simultaneous measurements even on two elements (water vapor and liquid water, or water vapor and ice water). We have made an effort to find three characteristic Raman wavelengths that correspond to the three phases of water after measuring full Raman spectra of water on particular days that are rainy, snowy or clear. Finally, we have found that the 401-nm, 404-nm, and 408-nm wavelengths are the most characteristic Raman wavelengths that are representative of the water phases when we are using the 355-nm laser wavelength for making measurements.

Atmospheric chemical vapor deposition of graphene on molybdenum foil at different growth temperatures

  • Graphene was grown on molybdenum (Mo) foil by a chemical vapor deposition method at different growth temperatures (1000℃, 1100℃, and 1200℃). The properties of graphene were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. The results showed that the quality of the deposited graphene layer was affected by the growth temperature. XRD results showed the presence of a carbide phase on the Mo surface; the presence of carbide was more intense at 1200℃. Additionally, a higher I2D/IG ratio (0.418) was observed at 1200℃, which implies that there are fewer graphene layers at this temperature. The lowest ID/IG ratio (0.908) for the graphene layers was obtained at 1200℃, suggesting that graphene had fewer defects at this temperature. The size of the graphene domains was also calculated. We found that by increasing the growth temperature, the graphene domain size also increased.

Error Accumulation and Transfer Effects of the Retrieved Aerosol Backscattering Coefficient Caused by Lidar Ratios

  • The errors in retrieved aerosol backscattering coefficients due to different lidar ratios are analyzed quantitatively in this paper. The actual calculation shows that the inversion error of the aerosol backscattering coefficients using the Fernald backward-integration method increases with increasing inversion distance. The greater the error in the lidar ratio, the faster the error in the aerosol backscattering coefficient increases. For the same error in lidar ratio, the smaller actual aerosol backscattering coefficient will get the larger relative error of the retrieved aerosol backscattering coefficient. The errors in the lidar ratios for dust or the cirrus layer have great impact on the retrievals of backscattering coefficients. The interval between the retrieved height and the reference range is one of the important factors for the derived error in the aerosol backscattering coefficient, which is revealed quantitatively for the first time in this paper. The conclusions of this article can provide a basis for error estimation in retrieved backscattering coefficients of background aerosols, dust and cirrus layer. The errors in the lidar ratio of an aerosol layer influence the retrievals of backscattering coefficients for the aerosol layer below it.
