A photovoltaic energy map that included a topography effect on the Korean peninsula was developed using the Gangneung-Wonju National University (GWNU) solar radiation model. The satellites data (MODIS, OMI and MTSAT-1R) and output data from the Regional Data Assimilation Prediction System (RDAPS) model by the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) were used as input data for the GWNU model. Photovoltaic energy distributions were calculated by applying high resolution Digital Elevation Model (DEM) to the topography effect. The distributions of monthly accumulated solar energy indicated that differences caused by the topography effect are more important in winter than in summer because of the dependency on the solar altitude angle. The topography effect on photovoltaic energy is two times larger with 1 km resolution than with 4 km resolution. Therefore, an accurate calculation of the solar energy on the surface requires high-resolution topological data as well as high quality input data.
In this study CALPUFF modeling was performed to predict a contribution of a separate single point pollutant source as well as of total point pollutant sources of major synthetic fiber manufacturers in Gumi national industrial complex to atmospheric trimethylamine concentration of the same area. In addition, a contribution of the separate single point pollution source to the atmospheric trimethylamine concentration of the same area was estimated relatively to the total point pollutant sources. As a result of the CALPUFF modeling, the maximum atmospheric concentration of trimethylamine in Gumi national industrial complex was appeared upon improving T company emission facility frequently in complex 3 in winter (January) and spring (April) while frequently in complex 1 in summer (July) and autumn (October). Besides, the predicted range of the maximum atmospheric concentration of trimethylamine in complex 1 was improved upon improving its emission facility. However, even though in complex 3 the upper bound of the predicted maximum atmospheric concentrations of trimethylamine was increased upon improving T company emission facility, the predicted value of their second upper bound below the upper bound was very similar to the upper bound of measured atmospheric trimethylamine concentrations in Gumi prior to improving its emission facility. Thus, the effect of improving T company emission facility was estimated huge in complex 1 while it was trivial in complex 3. These maximum concentrations of trimethylamine predicted to estimate the expected contribution of total point pollutant sources by CALPUFF modeling showed the similar values to those measured in the region of Gumi. Therefore, the expected contribution of total point pollutant sources to atmospheric trimethylamine concentration in the area of Gumi was validated.
Remote sensing data using earth observation satellites in agricultural environment monitoring has many advantages over other methods in terms of time, space, and efficiency. Since the sensor mounted on the satellite measures the energy that sunlight is reflected back to the ground, noise is generated in the process of being scattered, absorbed, and reflected by the Earth's atmosphere. Therefore, in order to accurately measure the energy reflected on the ground (radiance), atmospheric correction, which must remove noise caused by the effect of the atmosphere, should be preceded. In this study, atmospheric correction sensitivity analysis, inter-satellite cross-analysis, and comparative analysis with ground observation data were performed to evaluate the application of KOMPSAT-3 satellite's atmospheric correction for agricultural application. As a result, in all cases, the surface reflectance after atmospheric correction showed a higher mutual agreement than the TOA reflectance before atmospheric correction, and it is possible to produce the time series vegetation index of the same standard. However, additional research is needed for quantitative analysis of the sensitivity of atmospheric input parameters and the tilt angle.

In the present paper, numerical simulations of buoyant plume dispersion in a neutral and stable atmospheric boundary layer have been carride out. A Lagrangian Stochastic Model (LSM) with a Non-Linear Eddy Viscosity Model (NLEVM) for turbulence is used to generate a Reynolds stress field as an input condition of dispersion simulation. A modified plume-rise equation is included in dispersion simulation in order to consider momentum effect in an initial stage of plume rise resulting in an improved prediction by comparing with the experimental data. The LSM is validated by comparing with the prediction of an Eulerian Dispersion Model (EDM) and by the measured results of vertical profiles of mean concentration in the downstream of an elevated source in an atmospheric boundary layer. The LSM predicts accurate results especially in the vicinity of the source where the EDM underestimates the peak concentration by 40% due to inherent limitations of gradient diffusion theory. As a verification study, the LSM simulation of buoyant plume dispersions under a neutral and stable atmospheric condition is compared with a wind-tunnel experiment, which shows good qualitative agreements.
The atmospheric infrared sounder (AIRS) sensor loaded on the Aqua satellite observes the global vertical structure of atmosphere and enables verification of the water vapor distribution over the entire area of South Korea. In this study, we performed a comparative analysis of the accuracy of the total precipitable water (TPW) provided as the AIRS level 2 standard retrieval product by Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) over the South Korean area using the global positioning system (GPS) TPW data. The analysis TPW for the period of one year in 2008 showed that the accuracy of the data produced by the combination of the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit sensor with the AIRS sensor to correct the effect of clouds (AIRS-X) was higher than that of the AIRS IR-only data (AIRS-I). The annual means of the root mean square error with reference to the GPS data were 5.2 kg/$m^2$ and 4.3 kg/$m^2$ for AIRS-I and AIRS-X, respectively. The accuracy of AIRS-X was higher in summer than in winter while measurement values of AIRS-I and AIRS-X were lower than those of GPS TPW to some extent.
Recently, a variety of modeling studies have been conducted to examine the air quality over South Korea during the Korea - United States Air Quality (KORUS-AQ) campaign period (May 1 to June 10, 2016). This study investigates the impact of different meteorological initializations on atmospheric modeling results. We conduct several simulations during the KORUS-AQ period using the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model with two different initial datasets, which is FNL of NCEP and ERA5 of ECMWF. Comparing the raw initial data, ERA5 showed better accuracy in the temperature, wind speed, and mixing ratio fields than those of NCEP-FNL. On the other hand, the results of WRF simulations with ERA5 showed better accuracy in the simulated temperature and mixing ratio than those with FNL, except for wind speed. Comparing the nudging efficiency of temperature and wind speed fields, the grid nudging effect on the FNL simulation was larger than that on the ERA5 simulation, but the results of mixing ratio field was the opposite. Overall, WRF simulation with ERA5 data showed a better performance for temperature and mixing ratio simulations than that with FNL data. For wind speed simulation, however, WRF simulation with FNL data indicated more accurate results compared to that with ERA5 data.
Nitrite is an essential additive for the manufacture of cured meat products. This study was conducted to investigate the curing effect of the plasma treated juice of red Perilla in meat batter. The nitrite content in the juice of red Perilla was increased by the indirect treatment of atmospheric pressure plasma, and the lyophilized powder of red Perilla juice contained 9,133 ppm of nitrite. A meat batter without a nitrite source was prepared as a negative control (NC), and the meat batters cured with sodium nitrite (PC), celery powder (CP), and the lyophilized powder of red Perilla juice treated with atmospheric pressure plasma (PTP) at 70 ppm level of nitrite were prepared. The PTP showed the highest pH and the lowest cooking loss among the treatments. There were no significant differences in the nitrosyl-hemochrome content in the cooked meat batters of the PC, CP and PTC. However, the PTP had a lower CIE $a^*$-value compared to the PC and CP. The malondialdehyde content in the cooked meat batters was significantly lower in the CP and PTP than in the NC while there was no significant difference between the NC and PC. Based on the results of this study, the plasma treated juice of red Perilla can be used as a new natural nitrite source for cured meat products.

Effeccs of porous wind fence on surface-pressure around 2-dimensional prism model of triangular cross-section were investigated experimentally. The pressure data were obtained at a Reynolds number based on the model height of Re=2.1*10$^{5}$ . Flow visualization also carried out to investigate the flow structure qualitatively. The mean velocity and turbulent intensity profiles measured at fence location were well fitted to the neutral atmospheric surface boundary layer over the open terrain. Various fences with different porosity and height were tested to investigate their effects on the surface pressure acting on a prism model at different locations. As the results, porous fence with porosity 40 ~ 50% is most effective for abating wind erosion. With decreasing porosity of the fence, pressure fluctuations on the model surface are increased. The mean pressure coefficients are decreased only when the fence height is greater than the model height. The effect of distance between wind fence and triangular prism was not significant, compared to that of the fence porosity and height.

To study the effect of cloud on the variabilities of turbulent fluxes over the flat terrain, we used the gradient method to analyze the dynamic and thermodynamic data from the meteorological 9-m mast (0.75, 3 and 9 m) in Villafria airport in Spain. The decrease of the surface wind speed is governed by cooling at the surface following the evening transition. The sensible heat flux and the momentum flux are increased with the dynamic factor rather than the thermodynamic factor, and the sensible heat flux was not affected by the thermal condition. The global radiation did not play an important role in the variation of the sensible heat flux in the cloudy day, but the atmospheric surface layer was characterized rather by the wind intensity.

The flow structure around the free end of a finite circular cylinder (FC) embedded in an atmospheric boundary layer (ABL) over open terrain was investigated experimentally with varying the free end shape. The experiments were carried out in a closed-return type subsonic wind tunnel. A finite cylinder with an aspect ratio (L/D) of 6 was mounted vertically on a long flat plate. The Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter is about Re=7,500. The velocity fields near the FC free end were measured using the single-frame double-exposure PIV method. As a result, for the FC with a right-angled free end, there is a peculiar vortical structure, showing counter-rotating twin vortices near the FC free end. It is caused by the interaction between the entrained irrotational fluids from both sides of FC and the downwash flow from the FC free-end.
