  • This paper aims at the precursor analysis and DB development of electrical fires based on thermal and current signals for partial disconnection and poor contact on electric wires through experiments and simulations. Also, DB system required for developing the precursor DB with these data was studied and designed. Firstly, in case of partial disconnection, characteristics were derived and analyzed by experiment and electrical-thermal finite element method(Flux 3D) on the model wires which consist of VCTF and IV electric wires. Based on the characteristics, About 351 partial disconnection precursor patterns were generated by the thermal analysis for electric wire according to deterioration time under normal state and 200% overload state of rated current. Secondly, in order to develop poor contact precursor patterns, temperature value and the current signal were considered. In simulating the poor contact situation on connector area of MCCB, connection torque was changed. Through the experimental analysis, about 251 poor contact precursor patterns were generated. Finally, Using thermal precursor patterns obtained by partial disconnection and poor contact, electrical fire thermal precursor DB was developed.

  • In a railway vehicle, contact between wheel and rail is a peculiar characteristic and variations of wheel and rail profile influence on the dynamic characteristics of railway vehicle. Thus the variations of the wheel and rail profile are very important in railway dynamics. Recently a research relating to active steering to improve the curving performance of vehicle is progressing actively at home and abroad. In this field, a pre-study for the wheel/rail contact geometry is needed and especially the variation of the wheel/rail contact geometry with wheel wear is the key design parameter to develop the controller of the active steering bogie. In this paper, we have experimentally studied to analyze the variation of the wheel/rail contact geometry with wheel wear as a pre-study to develop the active steering bogie for electric multiple unit (EMU). For this, we have made an experiment with EMU operating in curving area. We have measured the wear profiles of the wheel of the test vehicle and analyzed the wheel/rail contact geometry with a mileage of the test vehicle. In experiment with test vehicle, we have got the useful data to design the steering controller of the wheelset.

  • The reduction of drag torque is an important research issue in terms of improving transmission efficiency. Drag torque in a wet clutch occurs because of the viscous drag generated by the transmission fluid in a narrow gap (clearance) between the friction plate and a separate plate. The objective of this paper is to observe the effects of the friction plate area and the clearance on the drag torque using finite element simulation. The two-phase flow of air and oil fluid is considered and modeled for the simulation. The simulation analysis reveals that as the rotational speed increases, the drag torque generally increases to a critical point and then decreases sharply at a high speed regime. The clearance between the two plates plays an important role in controlling drag torque peak. An increase in the clearance causes a decrease in shear stress; thus, the drag torque also decreases according to Newton's law of viscosity. An observation of the effect of the area of contact between transmission fluid and friction plate shows that the drag torque increases with the contact area. The flow vectors inside the flow channel present clear evidence that the velocity of the fluid flows is faster with a larger friction plate, that is, in the case of a larger contact area. Therefore, the optimum size of the friction plate should be determined carefully, considering both the clutch performance and drag reduction. It is expected that the results from this study can be very useful as a database for clutch design and to predict the drag torque for the initial design with respect to various clutch parameters.

  • Customer Contact, defined as "the extent of interpersonal interaction between customer and service provider", is recognized as an important contributor to the perception of service quality, which in turn brings positive impacts on customer satisfaction, customer retention and loyalty especially in service contexts. The major purposes of this study are to explore the dimensionality of customer contact construct, to access the influences of customer contact dimensions on service quality dimensions, and to evaluate the relative importance of customer contact dimensions on service quality. Data from 388 customers of hotels at youngdong area in Kangwon-do were analyzed with major findings and their implications for service companies including hotels are as follows. First of all, the results of factor analysis show that customer contact is constructed with two dimensions, namely communication time and contact proximity. Secondly, overall customer contact is found to have positive effects on customers' perception of overall service quality and each dimension of customer contact has significant effects on overall service quality. Third, contact proximity dimension has relatively more important contributors than communication time has on overall service quality and four dimensions of service quality.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the distribution of foot pressure generated by active materials of a functional insole. Comfort is an important consideration while selectingfootwear and insoles. Consequently, it has an influence on injury. The development of new materials for functional insoles is considered one of the more important points for their manufacture. The method adopted in this study is as follows. First, ten healthy males were selected as subjects for the study. Each subject's foof was pre-screened podoscope(Alfoots, Korea) to check for the presence of any foot abnormalities, Two kinds of equipment were used for the study: a foot pressure device from Pedar-X, Germany, and a treadmill from Pulsefitness, UK. Next, each subject was asked to test four types of insoles(insoles of outdoor shoes, indoor shoes, walking shoes, and sports shoes) via walking trials on the treadmill at a constant speed of 4.2 km/h. The pressure distribution data(contact area, maximum force, maximum peak pressure, and maximum mean pressure) was collected using the pressure device at a sampling rate of 100 Hz. Results of the tests showed that all four types of functional insoles increased contact areas whit the foot. Further, functional insoles of walking shoes and sport shoes decreased the foot pressure. From these results, we conclude that the active materials of functional insoles of shoes can increase the contact area and provide greater comfort.

  • Recently, the interest in lithography without photo exposure has been increased compare to the conventional photolithography in nano meter and micrometer size patterning area. We studied a self aligned dipping of Ag solution through micro contact printing (${\mu}-CP$) with octadecyltrichlorosilane (OTS) treated polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) soft mold. The OTS monolayer on the patterned PDMS was formed by dipping it into OTS solution. We transferred the OTS monolayer from PDMS mold to the glass. The OTS monolayer changed the surface energy from hydrophilic surface to hydrophobic surface, And then we made self aligned Ag solution patterns just after dipping the substrate, using adhesion difference of Ag solution between OTS treated hydrophobic area and non-OTS treated hydrophilic area. We finally get the Ag patterns through only dip-coating after the ${\mu}-CP$ process. And we observed surface energies on the glass substrate through the contact angle measurements as time goes on.

  • The monitoring of structural integrity of pipeline tapered thread connections is of great significance in terms of safe operation in the industry. In order to detect effectively the loosening degree of tapered thread connection, an active sensing method using piezoceramic transducers was developed based on time reversal technique in this paper. As the piezoeramic transducers can be either as actuators or sensors to generate or detect stress waves, the energy transmission for tapered thread connection was analyzed. Subsequently, the detection principle for tapered thread connection based on time reversal was introduced. Finally, the inherent relationship between the contact area and tightness degree of tapered thread connection for the pipe structural model was investigated. Seven different contact area scenarios were tested. Each scenario was created by loosening connectors ranging from 3 turns to 4.5 turns in the right tapered threads when the contact area in the left tapered threads were 4.5 turns. The experiments were separately conducted with a highly noisy environment and various excitation signal amplitudes. The results show the focused peaks based on time reversal have the monotonously rising trend with the increase of the contact areas of tapered threads within an acceptable monitoring resolution for metal pipes. Compared with the energy method, the proposed time reversal based method to monitor tapered threads loosening demonstrates to be more robust in rejecting noise in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) applications.

  • Model reactions were often applied in the measuring of the mass transfer coefficient and interfacial area between gas and liquid, which are the most important factors in the design of equipment for gas absorption accompanied with chemical reaction this study, wetted wall column was applied to the sulfite-system among the known model reactions. It was found that one could not ignore the effect of contact time on the determination of mass transfer coefficient and interfacial area. When the reaction rate is very high or very low, the differences of absorption rate would be very large in according to the length of column, that is to the contact time. But the effect of contact time was free about the rate constant $k_2=5.5{\times}10^6m^3/kmol{\cdot}s$, that means the rate of gas absorption become independent upon the hydrodynamics of the equipment. It has shown that instead of steel column could be applied the fine grain-graphite column.

  • Characteristics of high frequency induction- hardened bearing steel have been investigated using 0.55wt.% C-1.68wt.% Mn specimens produced by vacuum induction melting (VIM). The K4 value in DIN 57602 of the specimens was assessed to be 6.41, high level of cleanliness. The specimens were high frequency induction-hardened to form heterogeneous submicron- lath martensite in the surface hardened layer with about 2.5mm in effective depth. Rolling contact fatigue tests were conducted in elasto-hydrodynamic lubricating conditions under a maximum Hertzian contact stress of$ 492kgmm^{-2}$ . It was found that microhardness in the subsurface, up to about $500\mu\textrm{m}$ in depth, below the raceway of rolling contact fatigued specimens was increased in comparison with that of induction-hardened layers. The depth of maximum microhardness- increased region was about $100\mu\textrm{m}$ from surface, showing white etching area. Crack initiation and propagation in the white etching area below the raceway of rolling contact fatigued specimens were observed.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the mechanical splicing characteristic of the threaded bar according to the contact conditions of the transverse rib. In order to consider the contact conditions of the rib, selection of the main variables including the gap of the core diameter ($l_c$), rib angle (${\theta}$), and the number of contacts ($C_N$) of transverse rib was done. So as to analyze the splicing characteristic of the D51 threaded bar, a finite element (FE) simulation of the tensile test was conducted using the designed D51 threaded bar and coupler. Through FE simulation results, it was verified that the mechanical slicing characteristics varied based on the main design variables ($l_c$, ${\theta}$, and $C_N$). It was further confirmed that it was important to determine the $C_N$ in consideration of $l_c$. Additionally, the tensile test results of the D25 and D51 threaded bar combined with the couplers were similar to FE simulation results. Furthermore, to quantitatively evaluate FE simulation and test results, the calculation equation for the contacted projection area ratio (R) of the transverse rib was proposed. To secure a mechanical splicing joint of the threaded bar, it was established that the R calculated using the proposed equation had to be greater or equal to 40%.
