A big progress has been made for moving force identification from bridge dynamic responses in recent years. Current knowledge and the potentials on moving force identification methods are reviewed in this paper under main headings below: background of moving force identification, experimental verification in laboratory and its application in field.
There have been many radiographic studies on age estimation that evaluate reduction in size of dental pulp cavity with secondary dentin formation. The Paewinsky method reported high accuracy in estimating ages by measuring the width of the pulp cavity in panoramic radiographs. The aim of this study was to evaluate the application of the Paewinsky method to digital periapical radiographs. This study was conducted on 103 cases that reported to the Section of Human Identification of the National Forensic Service. The age was calculated by applying the Paewinsky method that measures the root and pulp canal width at three points in a tooth. The estimation results were compared with those calculated by the Johanson method. When the Paewinsky models were applied to digital periapical radiographs, the errors were significantly greater as compared to the original study. The errors of the maxillary second premolar and mandibular lateral incisor were greater than those of the maxillary central incisor, lateral incisor, mandibular canine, and first premolar. Furthermore, errors of the age estimation models in level C were greater than those in levels A and B. This study could be a reference for the application of the Paewinsky method to digital periapical radiographs.
This project addresses the product identification and design application of corrugated products for kinetic architectural applications. Initially, an architectural approach to product identification was carried out with the end goal of demonstrating application design principles of numerous novel architectural examples from the forest products industry. A design and prototyping stage followed demonstrating such application design principles and functional analysis on various novel architectural examples. The results of coupling product identification with proven application advantages will be of potential value not only to architecture but also to other designers in the arts and sciences. The general motivation for the research arises out of a growing interest corrugated and paper products to be ideally suited for various architectural applications for their unparallel environmental benefits. Applications in architecture that use fewer resources and that adapt efficiently to complex and changing conditions are particularly relevant for an industry (architecture) that is increasingly aware of its environmental responsibilities. Corrugated and paper products are highly under-utilized by the building industry as design choice material for both interior and exterior applications. An increased awareness of the benefits of corrugated and paper products coupled with a process of designing for the total use and reuse will prove to be a valuable means by which issues of energy efficiency and environmental quality of buildings could be enhanced to be more efficient, affordable, and therefore reach a broader audience of users.

Prestress force identification (PFI) is crucial to maintain the safety of prestressed concrete bridges. A synergic identification method has been proposed recently by the authors that can determine the prestress force (PF) and the excitation force simultaneously in prestressed concrete beams with good accuracy. In this paper, the ability of this method in the application with prestressed concrete box-girder bridges is demonstrated. A reasonable assumption is made to capture the similarity of the dynamic behavior of the prestressed concrete box-girder bridge and a beam under a certain loading scenario, and the feasibility of this method for application in a prestressed box-girder bridge is affirmed. A comprehensive laboratory test program is conducted, and the effects of PF, excitation, measuring time and uncertainties are studied. Results show that the proposed method can predict the PF and the excitation force in a prestressed concrete box-girder accurately and has a great robustness against uncertainties.
This paper deals with motion identification using artificial neural network (ANN) and its application to automatic ship berthing. As ship motions are expressed by multi-term non-linear model, it is very difficult to find optimal methods for automatic ship berthing especially under environmental disturbances. In this paper, metier identification was used to estimate the effect of environmental disturbances and then the differences between values of identification and state variables are used to estimate the effect of environmental disturbances. A rule based-algorithm using the difference is suggested to cope with the effect of the disturbances. The algorithm adjusts the value of input units of ANN, which control a ship to keep desired route ...

The importance of application traffic identification is emphasized for the efficient network management with recent rapid development of internet. In this paper, we present the application traffic identification method using the behavior based signature to improve the previous limitations. The behavior based signature is made by combining the existing various traffic features, and uses the Inter-Flow unit that is combination of the first request packet of each flow. All signatures have 100% precision when measured the accuracy of 5 applications using at home and abroad to prove the feasibility of the proposed signature.

Internet traffic identification is an essential preliminary step for stable service provision and efficient network management. The payload signature-based-classification is considered as a reliable method for Internet traffic identification. But its performance is highly dependent on the number and the structure of signatures. If the numbers and structural complexity of signatures are not proper, the performance of payload signature-based-classification easily deteriorates. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of the identification system, it is necessary to regulate the numbers of the signature. In this paper, we propose a novel signature quality evaluation method to decide which signature is highly efficient for Internet traffic identification. We newly define the signature quality evaluation criteria and find the highly efficient signature through the method. Quality evaluation is performed in three different perspectives and the weight of each signature is computed through those perspectives values. And we construct the signature map(S-MAP) to find the highly efficient signature. The proposed method achieved an approximately fourfold increased efficiency in application traffic identification.

In this paper, we present an approach to the structure identification based on the input space partition methods and to the parameter identification by hybrid learning method in neuro-fuzzy system. The structure identification can automatically estimate the number of membership function and fuzzy rule using grid partition, tree partition, scatter partition from numerical input-output data. And then the parameter identification is carried out by the hybrid learning scheme using back-propagation and least squares estimate. Finally, we sill show its usefulness for neuro-fuzzy modeling to truck backer-upper control.
RFID has been used as an identification tool that substitutes for bar codes. Its areas of application are increasing due to its suitability in ubiquitous environment. In this paper, first, we review various aspects of RFID, including standards, characteristics, and relationships with wireless sensor networks. Then, we review the technical aspects of RFID and its areas of application, e.g., supply chain management (SCM) and manufacturing since 2005. SCM, in which RFIDs can shorten lead time and ensure the quality of products, is one of the most active application areas. Manufacturing is a relatively new area for RFID applications, but it is believed that it can enhance the productivity and the reliability of the products. Also, the authors suggest research issues and limitations of RFID, as well as possible application areas related to marine engineering.
The objective of this paper is to develop on-line system parameter estimation and damage detection technique from the response measurements through using the Recursive Covariance-Driven Stochastic Subspace identification (RSSI-COV) approach. To reduce the effect of noise on the results of identification, discussion on the pre-processing of data using recursive singular spectrum analysis (rSSA) is presented to remove the noise contaminant measurements so as to enhance the stability of data analysis. Through the application of rSSA-SSI-COV to the vibration measurement of bridge during scouring experiment, the ability of the proposed algorithm was proved to be robust to the noise perturbations and offers a very good online tracking capability. The accuracy and robustness offered by rSSA-SSI-COV provides a key to obtain the evidence of imminent bridge settlement and a very stable modal frequency tracking which makes it possible for early warning. The peak values of the identified $1^{st}$ mode shape slope ratio has shown to be a good indicator for damage location, meanwhile, the drastic movements of the peak of $2^{nd}$ mode slope ratio could be used as another feature to indicate imminent pier settlement.
