Effects of Classic Music Listening on Anxiety and Psychological Well-Being in Undergraduate Nursing Students during Clinical Practice (고전음악청취가 임상실습 간호대학생의 불안과 심리적 안녕감에 미치는 효과)

  • The aim of this study was to examine the effectiveness of classic music listening for the release anxiety and improvement psychological well being in undergraduate nursing students during clinical practicer. 56 participants received classic music listening weekly for a period of overall 2 weeks program. In experimental group, anxiety (t=2.49, p=.013) have decreased significantly comparing to the control group. Psychological well being (t=4.18, p=.008) have increased significantly comparing to the control group. Conclusions: Classic music listening may be effective at reducing anxiety and improving psychological well being in undergraduate nursing students during clinical practice.

Effect of Real Patient Controlled Analgesia (PCA) Education with Practice on Postoperative Pain, Consumption of Analgesics, and Anxiety for Elderly Patients with Total Hip Arthroplasty (실물 통증자가조절기 교육 프로그램이 노인 고관절수술 환자의 통증, 진통제 사용량 및 불안에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of real PCA education with practice on postoperative pain, consumption of analgesics, and anxiety for elderly patients with total hip arthroplasty. Methods: This study utilized a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The participants were 52 elderly patients (${\geq}65$) with total hip arthroplasty at the G. hospital in Seoul. The participants were recruited from December 3, 2014 to April 30, 2015. Twenty six of them were assigned to the experimental group and the other to the control group. Preoperative real PCA education with practice was performed individually with the experimental group by the author. Results: There were statistically significant differences in 24 and 48 hour postoperative pain (t=-2.59, p=.012; t=-3.80, p<.001 respectively), and in consumption of analgesics at 24 and 48 hours after operation between the two groups (t=-3.61, p<.001; t=-4.19, p<.001 respectively). However, no significant difference in anxiety (t=-1.03, p=.308) at 48 hour after operation. Conclusion: This study has confirmed that the individualized real PCA education with practice contributes to relieve postoperative pain and reduce analgesic uses of the elderly with total hip arthroplasty. Thus, it is highly recommended that this education program could be applied in clinical settings as a nursing intervention in reducing postoperative pain for the elderly with total hip arthroplasty.

A Qualitative Content Analysis of Journals for Cadaver Practice Experiences in Nursing Students (간호대학생의 카데바 실습일지에 대한 내용분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the experiences of nursing students who used journals for cadaver practice experience. The data were collected between October 26 and October 28 2016. Participants were 20 2-year nursing students with cadaver practice experience at D College in D City. The data were collected from daily sheets by self-reporting their experiences during the cadaver practice program. The participants wrote their experiences anonymously on sheets on paper. Data were categorized and coded by using content analysis. Eight categories and 21 statements were drawn from three domains. The study revealed that participants experienced anxiety, flow, and reflection of cadaver practice. The analyzed domains were 'anxiety', 'flow', and 'reflection'. 'Anxiety' was categorized into 'worry', 'fear', and 'surprise'. 'Flow' was categorized into 'interesting', 'focusing', and 'knowing'. 'Reflection' was categorized into 'dignity' and 'appreciation'. Therefore, It is necessary to provide a group counseling program for seniors who have experienced counseling and cadaver practice for psychological support and anxiety relief of nursing students before cadaver practice. In addition, this study is expected to contribute to the development of a cadaver practice program for nursing college students.

A Survey on Attitude Related to Physical Therapy Students's Clinical Practice (물리치료과 학생들의 임상실습에 대한 태도조사)

  • This study was conducted to investigate an attitude related to physical therapy students's clinical practice, a questionnaire survey was carried out for 101 third grader(Taegu Junior Health College 66, Andong Junior College 35) from 11th of January to 22th of March. The results are as follow : A. Frequency classified by item 1. Among preconception and anxiety on the clinical practice, a shortage of knowledge$(83.2\%)$ was the highest. 2. Among expectation on the clime practice, the chance to meet patients directly$(94.1\%)$ was the highest. 3. Among anxiety after students experienced clinical practice, a shortage of knowledge$(82.2\%)$ was the highest. 4. Among satisfaction after students experienced clinical practice, after students graduated college, they will maintain physical therapist's life continuously$(71.3\%)$ was the highest. B. The variables that showed statistical difference between general characteristics and variables classified by item are as follow : 1. Between sex and anxiety after students experienced clinical practice, girl-students$(86.7\%)$ showed higher rate than man-students$(61.1\%)$ in, a shortage of knowledge(P<0.01). 2. Between religion and expectation on clinical practice, religionists$(65.1\%)$ showed higher rate than nonreligionists $(44.8\%)$ in the chance to practice love for humanity(P<0.05). 3. Between religion and anxiety after students experienced clinical practice, religionist$(65.1\%)$ showed higher rate than nonreligionist$(56.9\%)$ in not unskillful counsel patients(P<0.01). 4. Between religion and satisfaction after students experienced clinical practice, religionist$(81.4\%)$ showed higher rate than nonreligionists$(63.3\%)$ in pride of major choice(P<0.01). 5. Between hospitalization experience of family and exportation on clinical practice, students who had hospitalization experience of family$(79.7\%)$ were higher rate than unexperienced students's$(62.2\%)$ in the chance to apply knowledge(P<0.05). 6. Between hospitalization experience and satisfaction after students experienced dime practice, students who had hospitalization experience$(68.4\%)$ were higher rate than unexperienced students's$(45.1\%)$ in settlement of anxiety(P<0.05). 1. Between choice motive of physiotherapy(PT) department and expectation on clinical practice, self-will students $(80.5\%)$ showed higher rate than other-will students's $(66.7\%)$ in rejoining participate in treatment(P<0.01). 8. Between choice motive of physiotherapy department and anxiety after students experienced clinical practice, self-will students$(74.0\%)$ showed higher rate than lither-will students's $(58.3\%)$ in the wish PT-job in the future(P<0.05). 9. Between choice motive of physiotherapy department and satisfaction after students experienced clinical practice, self-will students$(75.3\%)$ showed higher rate than other-will students's$(58.3\%)$ in pride on major in physical therapy(P<0.05). It was revealed by this survey that girl-students had higher anxiety than man-students in anxiety after students experiences clinical practice, self-will student had higher satisfaction higher than other-will student in the choice of physiotherapy department.

Effects of the Advanced Practice Nurse-Led Psychoeducational Program for Colorectal Cancer Survivors (대장암 생존자에게 적용한 전문간호사 주도 심리교육 프로그램의 효과)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the effects of an advanced practice nurse-led psychoeducational program on distress, anxiety, depression, coping with cancer (CWC), health promotion behavior (HPB), and quality of life (QOL) among colorectal cancer survivors. Methods: This study was designed as a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest. The participants were survivors of colorectal cancer who underwent follow-up care. There were 39 survivors: 19 in the experimental group and 20 in the control group. The experimental group performed a psychoeducational program for 120 minutes per session, once a week for a total of six weeks, while the control group received routine education and counseling. Distress, anxiety, depression, CWC, HPB, and QOL were investigated before, immediately after, and 4 weeks after the intervention. The data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN ver. 24.0, using repeated measures ANOVA. Results: There were significant interactions between time and group for distress and anxiety. In addition, CWC interacted with the total of CWC and interpersonal coping, and QOL interacted with the total of QOL and functional status. However, there were no significant differences in the depression or HPB scores. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, we expect that this program can be used as an effective intervention for colorectal cancer survivors.

Nursing Students' Clinical Competence and Decision-Making: Impact of a Multiple-components Practice-based Learning (간호학생의 임상수행능력과 임상의사결정: 다중요소 실습기반교육의 효과)

  • This study is a one-group pre-post experimental design that investigates the effects of a practice-based learning program with multiple components on the clinical competence of nursing students, and clinical decision-making. From May 4 to 29, 2020, a total of 60 third-year nursing students with no clinical practice experience were divided into two teams and participated in multi-component practice-based education for two weeks each, and the data of the final 51 students were included in the analysis. Following the practicum, there was a significant increase in clinical competence (t=-4.74, p<.001) and self-confidence in clinical decision-making (t=-8.41, p<.001), and a decrease in anxiety related to clinical decision-making (t=2.54, p=.014). The findings suggest that a multi-component, practice-based learning approach for nursing students can enhance their clinical competence, reduce preclincal anxiety and increase confidence in clinical decision-making in patient care.

Recognition of Anxiety Disorders in Depressed Patients (우울증 환자들에서 불안장애의 인지)

  • Substantial rates of comorbid anxiety disorders have been found using structured research diagnostic interviews in depressed outpatients. Comorbid anxiety disorders is underrecognized in routine clinical settings, in which clinicians usually use unstructured diagnostic interviews. Recognition of comorbid conditions such as anxiety disorders in patients seeking treatment for depression is clinically important because the presence of these disorders might influence selection of treatment options or predict the chronicity of the depression. A reliable and valid self-report screening questionnaire, such as the Psychiatric Diagnostic Screening Questionnaire (PDSQ), would potentially enhance usual clinical practice as a useful diagnostic aid.

Practice Guideline of Use of Benzodiazepines in Psychiatric Field (정신과 영역에서 벤조다이아제핀계 약물의 사용과 문제점)

  • Benzodiazepines are widely used for a variety of conditions in psychiatric field. In this article, the author reviewed the indications, the effects on anxiety and sleep disorders, the side effects, the drug-drug interactions, and the tapering strategies. Benzodiazepines were relatively safe and useful for the treatment of anxiety and sleep disorders. However, used clinically, benzodiazepines can induce many adverse effects (e. g. over-sedation, cognitive impairments, paradoxical effects, dependence and withdrawal symptoms, and so on). Currently available informations about their effects on the developing fetus is controversial. For this reason, pregnant women and nursing mother should be cautioned against the use of benzodiazepines. Drug-drug interactions have to be considered in combination treatments. For the tapering issues, gradual tapering was important to prevent the withdrawal symptoms. Especially, the tapering schedules have to be individualized for the each long-term benzodiapzepine users.

The Effects of Guided Imagery on the Stress and Anxiety of Nursing Students in Clinical Practice (지시적 심상요법이 임상 실습시 간호학생의 스트레스와 불안에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of Guided Imagery on the stress and anxiety of nursing students in clinical practice. Method: The research design was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The data were collected from the 20th of June to the 11th of July 2003. The objects of this study were 32 nursing students of college(16 for the experimental group, 16 for the control group). The instruments used in this study were State Trait Anxiety Inventory, the stress scale developed by Choi(1991). The guided imagery was provided through audiotapes to the subjects for 8 minutes, a time for 5 days. The pretest was given before the therapy to measure variables for both groups and the posttest was performed after intervention. The data were analyzed by the SAS program using t-test. Result: The results of this study are as follows. The stress scores of students were decreased in the experimental group, but were not significantly different between the experimental group and the control group after the guided imagery. The anxiety scores of students were significantly different between the experimental group and the control group after the guided imagery. Conclusion: The guided imagery can be suggested as an effective nursing intervention to reduce the anxiety. Further studies to identify the effects of stress reduction according to the frequency of the guided imagery can be needed.

The Effect on COVID-19 Infection Control Practice of Nurses who Work in Working Sites with Negative Pressure Isolation Rooms (음압격리병실이 있는 부서에서 근무하는 간호사의 코로나19 감염관리 수행에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose : This study aimed to identify the factors affecting coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection control practices of nurses in negative pressure isolation rooms. Methods : The participants were 150 nurses working in three hospitals with negative pressure isolation rooms. Data were collected using structured questionnaires and analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis using the SPSS/WIN 26.0 program. Results : Factors significantly influencing the subject's COVID-19 infection control practice include Being married (𝛽=.18, p =.016), working in a ward with negative pressure isolation rooms (𝛽=.44, p <.001), working in an ICU with negative pressure isolation rooms (𝛽=.27, p =.010), COVID-19 infection control attitude (𝛽=.28, p =.001), anxiety for COVID-19 (𝛽=.30, p <.001). The explanatory power of these variables for COVID-19 infection control practice was 24.6% (F=8.67, p <.001). Conclusion : It is expected that strategies that utilize positive attitudes which believe that COVID-19 disease may be overcome by COVID-19 infection control practice will help improve emerging infectious diseases infection control practice.
