Osteoarthritis (OA) is an inflammatory degenerative joint disease that is accompanied by irreversible joint cartilage destruction. Recently, the antioxidant effects of Carpomitra costata, which is a type of brown algae, have been reported, but their effects on OA have not been investigated. In this study, the anti-osteoarthritic effect of the ethanol extract of C. costata (EECC) on SW1353 human chondrocytes was studied. Results showed that EECC significantly attenuated the interleukin-1β (IL-1β)-induced release of pro-inflammatory mediators, including prostaglandin E2 and nitric oxide (NO), as well as expressions of cyclo-oxygenase-2 and inducible NO synthase. EECC also inhibited the IL-1β-induced expressions of matrix metalloproteinase-1, -3, and -13 in SW1353 chondrocytes, which reduced their extracellular secretion. In addition, the oxidative stress induced by IL-1β was confirmed to be blocked by EECC due to the inhibition of reactive oxygen species generation. Moreover, EECC suppressed IL-1β-mediated translocation of nuclear factor-kappa B (NF-κB) from cytosol into the nucleus and the degradation of IκB-α, which indicates that EECC exhibits anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway. These results are the first to demonstrate the anti-inflammatory activities of C. costata extracts in chondrocytes, thus suggesting that this algae extract may be used in the treatment of OA.
We present high aspect ratio 100nm-scale nickel stamper using e-beam lithography process and Cr/Qz mask for the injection molding process of nano grating patterns. Conventional photolithography blank mask (CrON/Cr/Qz) consists of quartz substrate, Cr layer of UV protection and CrON of anti-reflection layer. We have used Cr/Qz blank mask without anti-reflection layer of CrON which is non-conductive material and ebeam lithography process in order to simplify the nickel electroplating process. In nickel electroplating process, we have used Cr layer of UV protection as seed layer of nickel electroplating. Fabrication conditions of photolithography mask using e-beam lithography are optimized with respect to CrON/Cr/Qz blank mask. In this paper, we have optimized e-beam lithography process using Cr/Qz blank mask and fabricated nickel stamper using Cr seed layer. CrON/Cr/Qz blank mask and Cr/Qz blank mask require optimal e-beam dosage of $10.0{\mu}C/cm^2$ and $8.5{\mu}C/cm^2$, respectively. Finally, we have fabricated $116nm{\pm}6nm-width$ and $240nm{\pm}20nm-height$ nickel grating stamper for the injection molding pattern.
Volatile compounds in fermented ascidians Halocynthia roretzi were analyzed to identify key flavor compounds using SPME/GC/MSD (solid phase microextraction/gas chromatography/mass selective detector) after 60 days of fermentation at 5℃. The control was chopped ascidians subject to anti-browning and 4% salt treatment. product A was made from product C by adding an alcohol extract of red peppers and onion peel, 0.1% of glucose, and 0.55% of mixed amino acids (MAA; 0.05% Glu, 0.1% Pro, 0.3% Ala, and 0.1% Gly). After blanching and anti-browning treatment of chopped ascidians, Product B1 was made by adding 3% anchovy sauce and 6% sorbitol. Product B2 was made by adding 0.1% glucose and 0.55% MAA to Product B1. In total, 78 compounds were identified, including 31 alcohols, 15 aldehydes, and 10 ketones. The alcohols included 12 compounds from the C8-C10 series with floral and fruit odors, including octanol, 3-methyloctanol, 2,6-dimethyl-1-heptanol, (E)-5-octen-1-ol, 6-methyloctanol, (E)-3-octen-1-ol, (E)-3-decen-1-ol, (Z)-1,5-octadien-3-ol, and nonanol. These were detected in high amounts in ascidians and all fermented products. Aldehydes (octanal, (E)-2-octenal, 2,4-heptadienal, and nonanal) and ketones (1-oten-3-one and 2-heptanone) with fatty and mushroom odors were detected as major compounds, whereas nine ethyl esters were detected only in product A.

Although bacteriocins with anti-listerial activity have been isolated from a wide variety of lactic acid bacteria, little is known about those from Leuconostoc lactis, a heterofermentative bacterium that produces diacetyl and exopolysaccharides in dairy foods. In this study, an anti-listerial bacteriocin was isolated from Leuc. lactis SD501 and characterized. It was particularly potent against Listeria monocytogenes and also inhibited Enterococcus faecalis. Anti-listerial activity reached a maximum during the early stationary phase and then decreased gradually. The anti-listerial substance was sensitive to proteinase K and ${\alpha}$-chymotrypsin, confirming its proteinaceous nature. Its activity remained stable at pH values ranging from 1 to 10. In addition, it was strongly resistant to high temperatures, retaining its activity even after incubation for 15 min at $121^{\circ}C$. The apparent molecular mass of the partially purified anti-listerial bacteriocin was approximately 7 kDa. The characteristics of the SD501 bacteriocin, including its small molecular size (<10 kDa), strong anti-listerial activity, wide pH stability and good thermostability, indicate its classification as a Class IIa bacteriocin.
With the increasing media representation of aging as negative and abnormal, anti-aging products and discourses are spreading to younger generations. This paper analyzes the anti-aging discourse in a fashion magazine targeted towards women in their 20s. It quantitatively analyzes the historical development of the antiaging industry and discourses from 1994 to 2014 in the magazine "$C{\acute{e}}ci$". It also analyzes the patterns of signification associated with aging in the magazine through the use of critical discourse analysis. This paper identifies five major discourses -"segmentation of the definitions of youthful appearance", "scientific and medical discourse", "self-care discourse", "prevention of aging", and "social values of youthful appearances". The paper finds that the construction of anti-aging discourses towards women in their 20s is heavily influenced by the close link between the anti-aging industry and the fashion media. It also confirms the ideology of self-development though a rigorous appearance-management that is strongly imposed on Korean women and subsequently reproduced in an anti-aging discourse towards women in their 20s.
Objective : This study was carried out for the purpose of proving the effect of anti-allergic efficacy on B cells and the mast cells of the BALB/C mouse by the abstraction from a Moutan cortex. Methods & Results : In order to know what the effect of an abstraction from Moutan cortex and about the expression of CD23 and IgE, IC-2 cell (mouse mast precursor cells that was dependent on IL-3), it was necessary to be activated. We then analyzed it from the flow of cytometry on the increase and the divorce of the B cells activated by anti-CD40. In order to know what the effect of it was on the organization of cytokine gene expression from the increase and divorce of the B cells and allergic acting by Moutan cortex, we found it necessary to examine the IC-2 cells and B cells. At the same time, as we examined the histamine release of IC-2 cells by ELISA method, we also examined the effect of Moutan cortex on the increase and divorce of the B cells by 3H-thymidine uptake method. We then analyzed the release of IL-4, IgE and histamine. Conclusions : As a results, Moutan Cortex promoted blood supply by extending the blood vessel of nasal mucous, which was contracted by the hypertrophied nasal mucous.

Platycosides are the saponins in Platycodi Radix and they have several beneficial effects such as antiinflammatory and anti-obesity activities. This study was designed to determine the changes in the saponin composition in Platycodi Radix (platycosides) after being processed under steam and pressure and to investigate the anti-inflammatory effects of their extracts. The change of the platycoside compositions was investigated after 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9h heat processing of Platycodi Radices by using HPLC coupled with an evaporative light scattering detection (ELSD) system. After heat treatment ($125^{\circ}C$, 1, 2, 3, 6 and 9 h), the contents of several platycosides such as platycoside E, platycodin $D_3$, platycodin D, polygalacin D, and platycodin A decreased as the processing time was longer. While the total contents of the saponins decreased, the contents of deapi-forms of deapiplatycoside E, deapi-platycodin $D_3$, and deapi-platycodin D increased relatively. These results indicate that the linkage between apiose and xylose located at C-28 is labile to heat and pressure. The LPS-induced iNOS inhibitory activities of the samples treated for 1 and 2 hours were enhanced and after then, the activities were reduced. These results suggested that heat treatment of the samples affect the content of the total saponins and the saponin content may be the important criteria representing the anti-inflammatory activity.
