Experimental investigation of the large amplitude vibrations of a thin-walled column under self-weight

  • This work presents an experimental methodology specially developed for the nonlinear large-amplitude free vibration analysis of a clamped-free thin-walled metal column under self-weight. The main contribution of this paper is related to the developed experimental methodology which is based on a remote sensing technique using a computer vision system that integrates, on-line, the digital image acquisition and its treatment through special image processing routines. The main importance of this methodology is that it performs large deflections measurements without making contact with the structure and thus, not introducing undesirable changes in its behavior, for instance, appreciable changes in mass and stiffness properties. This structure presents, in most cases, highly non-linear responses, which cannot be reproduced by conventional finite-element softwares due, mainly, to the simultaneous influence of geometric and inertial non-linearities. To capture the non-linearities associated with large amplitude vibration and be able to describe the buckling process, the structure is discretized as a sequence of jointed coupled elastic pendulums. The obtained numerical results are favorably compared with the experimental ones, in the pre- and post-buckling regimes.

탄성파탐사에 의한 토양층 지반진동의 감쇠연구 (A Study on Attenuation of Ground Vibration Using Hammer Generated Seismic Wave)

  • 지반진동이 지표적인 토양에서 거리에 따라 어떻게 감소되는지 밝히기 위하여 탄성파의 진폭변화를 측정하였다.야외에서 12-ch 탄성파 탐지기를 이용하여 디지털 자료로 자료로 기록한 증폭되지 않은 진폭자료를 분석하였다. 탄성파의 주파수분석결과 최대 스펙트럼 진폭은 40Hz부근에서 나타나고 있다. 조사지역의 감쇠경향은 지수함수적임을 보여주고 있으며 탐사지역의 지반감쇠 요소들을 계산한 결과 기하감쇠지수 (n)는 0.25,내부감쇠지수(a)는 0.13-0.20임을 보여주고 있다. 습윤토양지역에서는 내부감쇠지수 (a)가 0.13, 식생토양지역에서는 0.20를 보여 습윤토양에서보다 식생발달 토양지역에서 지반진동이 훨씬 빨리 감쇠하는 현상을 보인다. 또한 탄성파 자료분석을 통한 탄성파전파속도와 주파수분석을 이용하여 흙의 평균 내부감쇠정수(h)가 0.094임을 밝혔다.

Using oscillatory shear to probe the effects of bidispersity in inverse ferrofluids

  • The effects of particle size distribution on the magnetorheological response of inverse ferrofluids was investigated using controlled mixtures of two monodisperse non-magnetisable powders of sizes $4.6\;{\mu}m\;and\;80{\mu}m$ at constant volume fraction of 30%, subjected to large amplitude oscillatory shear flow. In the linear viscoelastic regime (pre-yield region), it was found that the storage and loss moduli were dependent on the particle size as well as the proportion of small particles, with the highest storage modulus occurring for the monodisperse small particles. In the nonlinear regime (post yield region), Fourier analysis was used to compare the behaviour of the $1^{st}\;and\;3^{rd}$ harmonics ($I_{1}\;and\;I_{3}\;respectively$) as well as the fundamental phase angle as functions of the applied strain amplitude. The ratio of $I_{3}/I_{1}$ was found to become more pronounced with decreasing particle size as well as with increasing proportion of small particles in the bidisperse mixtures. Furthermore, the phase angle was able to clearly show the transition from solid-like to viscous behaviour. The results suggested that the nonlinear response of a bidisperse IFF is dependent on particle size as well as the proportion of small particles in the system.

체형유형에 따른 의복의 착의 공간 형상 변화 (Out-line Space-shape Variation of Clothing Fitness with Somatotype)

  • Clothing shape is principally described in seven factors that are composed of clothing design, clothing material, clothing size, pattern design, sewing method and body motion etc.. The aims of this study was to measurement out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with somato type by using the image processing. The subjects for direct anthropometric measurements were 248 female college students aged from 19 to 22. The data were statistically analyzed by principal analysis and cluster analysis. The results were obtained three somato type. Also I made skirts in order to analyzed to the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The effect of somato type on the shape of flare skirts was determined by the out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body. The out-line space-shape variation of clothing fitness with body was observed between the node number and amplitudes of clothing wave form and node number was determined at the maxim of space-shape amplitude, and the space-shape amplitudes have related with aspect ratio of cross-sectional shape. Results for flare skirts show changes in amplitude and mean with fabrics, somato type. therefore gray-level histogram are correlated with changes out-line space-shape, differences in drape spacing and related fabric properties and their somato type. 음향탐지를 이용한 트리잉의 열화진단을 위한 정량적 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Quantitative Analysis for Treeing Deterioration Diagnosis Using Acoustic Detection)

  • 본 연구는 고분자재료에서 음향센서를 이용한 부분방전의 음향적 탐지를 행했다. 저밀도 폴리에틸렌에 대한 트리잉파괴 실험에서 음향센서로 얻어진 음향방출 특성의 시간순서대로 측정하여 통계처리를 행했다. 또한 5가지 특성량을 도입하고 $\psi$-AEA-n(위상-음향진폭-펄스수) 패턴을 분석한 결과, 보이드 시료의 AE평균개시진폭 $(\overline{AEA_{inc}})$과 AE 평균최대진폭$(\overline{AEA_{max}})$은 열화중기, AE펄스수, AE평균최대위상각$(\overline{\theta{max}})$은 열화말기를 진단하기 위해서 유용한 음향방출량임을 알 수 있다. 이들 음향방출량은 보이드 시료의 열화진단을 구별하는데 유용한 음향방출량임을 실험결과로부터 얻었다.

  • Recently, the design process for a railway bogie frame in Europe has been carried out according to the norm EN 13749. The activities in the norm EN shall demonstrate that the design of the bogie frame fulfills the acceptances of 4 steps of the program such as structural calculation, static tests, fatigue test and on-tracks tests. At the end of the acceptance program, the on-tracks tests have the aim to measure the real stress history generated in operation and to verify that they are reasonably next to those calculated and measured on the test rig. Therefore, in order to assure the safety of the railway vehicle, it is important to examined the durability of that under load histories measured from on-tracks tests. In this study, under variable amplitude loading based on the actual acceleration history, fatigue analysis of the welding bogie frame is investigated by using durability software. Moreover, the fatigue life of the frame under the loading in the norm EN fatigue test condition is evaluated and compared with the life under variable amplitude loading.

Dimmable Spatial Intensity Modulation for Visible-light Communication: Capacity Analysis and Practical Design

  • Multiple LED arrays can be utilized in visible-light communication (VLC) to improve communication efficiency, while maintaining smart illumination functionality through dimming control. This paper proposes a modulation scheme called "Spatial Intensity Modulation" (SIM), where the effective number of turned-on LEDs is employed for data modulation and dimming control in VLC systems. Unlike the conventional pulse-amplitude modulation (PAM), symbol intensity levels are not determined by the amplitude levels of a VLC signal from each LED, but by counting the number of turned-on LEDs, illuminating with a single amplitude level. Because the intensity of a SIM symbol and the target dimming level are determined solely in the spatial domain, the problems of conventional PAM-based VLC and related MIMO VLC schemes, such as unstable dimming control, non uniform illumination functionality, and burdens of channel prediction, can be solved. By varying the number and formation of turned-on LEDs around the target dimming level in time, the proposed SIM scheme guarantees homogeneous illumination over a target area. An analysis of the dimming capacity, which is the achievable communication rate under the target dimming level in VLC, is provided by deriving the turn-on probability to maximize the entropy of the SIM-based VLC system. In addition, a practical design of dimmable SIM scheme applying the multilevel inverse source coding (MISC) method is proposed. The simulation results under a range of parameters provide baseline data to verify the performance of the proposed dimmable SIM scheme and applications in real systems.

선형진동계에 작용하는 비선형진흡진기에 관한 안정성해소 연구 (A Study of Stability Analysis on Nonlinear Dynamic Vibration Absorber Acting on Damped Main Vibration Systems)

  • In this study, a system coupled with the nonlinear dynamic vibration absorber was modelled, and its equation of motion was analized by the harmonic balance method to obtain the amplitude ratio. And also, the stability analysis was done by the Routh Hurwitz method. In the vibration systems coupled with the nonlinear dynamic vibration absorber, the unstable region and the jump phenomenon can be ramarkably affected by the damping ratio. The stable and unstable region that obtained to differential method excellently agreed to the result of the stability analysis of Routh Hurwitz.
