  • Stomach contents of Amblychaeturichthys hexanema and A. sciistius (Perciformes: Gobiidae) from southeastern waters off Korea were analyzed to determine dietary habits and the presence of any inter- and intra-specific partitioning of food resources. These two species were bottom-feeding carnivores that consumed mainly benthic crustaceans, and other demersal invertebrates and planktonic organisms were also important in their diets. Non-metric multidimensional scaling (nMDS) ordination and multivariate analyses based on gravimetric contributions of the different prey taxa to stomach contents revealed significant inter-specific dietary differences; i.e. partitioning of food resources between the two species. Size-related changes, however, were not significant for their diets. Differences in the types and range of prey ingested by the two species could often be related to differences in the feeding behaviors. Our results of stomach contents analyses provide clear evidence of niche segregation between co-occurring A. hexanema and A. sciistius in southeastern Korean waters, which would reduce the likelihood of inter-specific competition for food resources.

  • In this study, lipid classes and fatty acids composition in viscera and muscle of the philippines Pinkgray goby, Amblychaeturichtys hexanema were determined. The viscera contained high levels of total lipid $(TL,\;4.8\%)$, while the muscle contained less TL $(0.5\%)$. TL in the viscera consisted of triacylglycerol $(83.9\%)$, diacylglycerol $(7.9\%)$, polar lipid $(7.4\%)$, and cholesterol $(0.8\%)$. However, the muscle contained a small amount of TG $(3.0\%)$ and much more PL $(73.8\%)$. Principal fatty acids composition of PL and NL in the viscera and muscle were 16:0, 16:1n-7, 18:0, 18: 1n-9, 18:1n-7, l8:3n-3, 20:5n-3, 22:5n-3, and 22:6n-3.

  • This study examines the community characteristics of fish species collected by fyke net from the eastern coastal waters of Yeosu, Korea, during the period from 2020 to 2021. A total of 4,539 fish were sampled and classified into 43 species, 28 families, and 7 orders. The dominant species included Mugil cephalus (14.4%), Konosirus punctatus (10.9%), Lateolabrax japonicus (8.3%), Acanthopagrus schlegelii (7.9%), and Pennahia argentata (7.2%). The diversity index was highest in October (H'=2.888) and lowest in February (H'=2.075). Furthermore, the dominance index was highest in March (DI=0.524) and lowest in December (DI=0.178). Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA) revealed that fish communities could be divided into three groups based on Bray-Curtis similarity. Group 1, consisting mainly of species collected from June to October, formed one cluster. Group 2, including winter spawning species such as Pseudopleuronectes yokohamae, Clupea pallasii, and Hexagrammos otakii, sampled from November to February, formed another cluster. Group 3, which included species such as Larimichthys polyactis, Amblychaeturichthys hexanema, and Sebastes inermis, formed a cluster collected from March to May. The eastern coast of Yeosu is considered a suitable habitat for fisheries resources, including highly economically valuable species, and it is also assumed to be an important spawning and nursery ground for many fish species.

  • A study for species composition and abundance of the fish assemblages in the coastal Sacheon Bay, Korea were conducted using monthly collection by a shrimp beam trawl from March 2015 to February 2016. The number of individuals, biomass and species diversity indices fluctuated with the station and month. Of all 73 species collected, the dominant species in terms of numbers were Liparis tanakae, Zoarces gillii, Amblychaeturichthys hexanema, Ricuzenius pinetorum and Pleuronichys cornutus. The peak number of fishes occurred in March and April, whereas the biomass of fishes was highest in April. The numbers and biomass of fishes were lower in February corresponding with the low temperature, and diversity indices were highest in June. Due to those seasonal difference in abundance of the dominant species, fish community were divided into three main groups. In addition, seasonal difference by station of fish community were devided into four main groups. Juvenile fishes of coastal Sacheon were presented during the study period. It presented that the study area served as an important role in spawning and nursery ground for fisheries resource.

A total of 5,981 fishes were sampled and classified into 48 species, 32 families, and 9 orders. The dominant species was Engraulis japonicus (993 individuals, 16.60%), Amblychaeturichthys hexanema (844 individuals, 14.11%), and Thryssa kammalensis (674 individuals, 11.27%). The highest number of individuals was found in August (958 individuals), while the lowest number of individuals was found in January (136 individuals). The diversity index was the highest in November (H' = 2.37) and the lowest in January (H' = 1.77).

  • In order to study about species composition and community structure of fish in the coastal water off Boryeong were investigated from January 2018 to December 2019. A total of 10,863 individuals of 87 species of 44 families were collected. The dominant species were Liparis tanakai accounted for 19.8 percent of the total with Amblychaeturichthys hexanema and Collichthys niveatus accounted for 12.4 percent and 11.0 percent of the total number. A cluster analysis based on the Bray-Curtis similarity revealed that the fish community divided into two groups, According to season. The fish species that appeared summer and autumn were mainly migratory, while the fish species that appeared in spring and winter were mainly resident species. Fish caught by stow net had a high percentage of immature fish. It presented that coastal water off Boryeong is located an important spawning and nursery for fisheries resource.

  • It was turned out by the beam trawl survey in 2009 that flora of three phylum 16 species and fauna of eight taxa 68 families 97 species were inhabited in the Seomjin River estuary and western coastal waters of Namhae island. Winter season showed the most various appearance of species with 63 species and markedly several kinds of algae species, while summer season showed the lowest number of species with 44 species. However, the indices of species diversity and evenness were highest in summer, and vice versa in winter. Major dominant species were Crangon hakodatei, Leiognathus nuchalis, Asterias amurensis, Thryssa kammalensis, Luidia quinaria, Amblychaeturichthys hexanema, Oratosquilla oratoria, Charybdis bimaculata, Cynoglossus joyneri, Pennahia agentata. The 10 dominant species occupied at 81.4% of catch in number and 49.0% of catch in weight. There were seasonal fluctuations and differences by station in the Seomjin River estuary and western coastal waters of Namhae island, which brought to the difference of length structures, that is, bigger-sized individuals of major dominant species at station A (near to river estuary) than station C (near to ocean). Species compositions by season and by station were separated to two groups. Winter season showed a separated species composition from other seasons and station A exhibited a different species composition from other stations, which was located at near to the Seomjin River estuary.

  • Species composition of the fish in the coastal waters of Jindo was determined using monthly sample collection by a gape net with wings in 2014. Of a total of 41 fishes collected, the dominant species were Engraulis japonicus, Thryssa kammalensis, Sardinella zunasi, Leiognathus nuchalis, Amblychaeturichthys hexanema, Neosalanx anderssoni, Acanthogobius flavimanus. The former three species were the migratory species and the other four species were the resident species. These 7 fishes accounted for 99.6% of the total number of individuals collected. Monthly species composition did not show a clear seasonal trend. The peak number of individuals occurred in May, lowest in November. Fish were divided into four groups by the cluster analysis.

The diversity index was the highest in spring (H'=3.06) and the lowest in summer and fall (H'=1.77). Temperature was the principal factor to determine the collected number of individuals (r=0.94) and the number of species (r=0.83).
