  • ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) thin films have been extensively studied for OLED devices because they have high transparent properties in the visible wavelength and a low electrical resistivity. These ITO films are deposited by rf-magnetron sputtering under different ambient gases (Ar, Ar+$O_2$ and Ar+$H_2$) at $300^{\circ}C$. In order to investigate the influences of the oxygen and hydrogen, the flow rate of oxygen and hydrogen in argon has been changed from 0.5sccm to 5sccm and from 0.01sccm to 0.25sccm respectively. The resistivity of ITO film increased with increasing flow rate of $O_2$ under Ar+$O_2$ while it is nearly constant under Ar+$H_2$. And the peak of ITO films obtained (222) and (400) orientations and the average transmittance was over 80% in the visible range. The OLED device fabricated with different ITO substrates made by configuration of ITO/$\alpha$-NPD/Alq3/LiF/Al to elucidate the performance of ITO substrate for OLED device.

  • We have investigated the effect of the concentration of oxygen vacancies on the characteristics of Mo-doped ZnO (MZO) thin films for the TCO (transparent conducting oxide). For this purpose, MZO thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering at different substrate temperature from room temperature to 300℃. The electrical resistivity of the MZO films decreases with increasing substrate temperature up to 100℃ and then gradually increases at higher temperatures. To investigate the influences of the ambient gases, the flow rate of oxygen and hydrogen in argon was varied from 0.1 sccm to 0.5 sccm. The MZO thin films were preferentially oriented to the (002) direction, regardless of the ambient gases used. The electrical resistivity of the MZO thin films increased with increasing O2 flow rates, whereas the electrical resistivity decreased sharply under an Ar+H2 atmosphere and was nearly the same, regardless of the H2 flow rate used. As the oxygen vacancy concentration increases, the resistivity intended to decrease. In conclusion, Oxygen vacancy affects the MZO thin film's electrical characteristics. All the films showed an average transmittance of over 80% in the visible range.

  • Mechanical stress and the vacuum level are the two main factors dominating the quality factor of a resonator operated in the vacuum range 1 mTorr to 10 Torr. This means that if the quality factor of a resonator is very insensitive to the mechanical stress in the vacuum range, it is sensitive to mainly the ambient vacuum level. In this paper, a wafer-level packaged MEMS resonator with a highly vacuum-sensitive quality factor is presented. The proposed device is characterized by a package with out-of-plane symmetry and a suspending structure with only a single anchor. Out-of-plane symmetry helps prevent deformation of the packaged device due to thermal mismatch, and a single-clamped structure facilitates constraint-free displacement. As a result, the proposed device is very insensitive to mechanical stress and is sensitive to mainly the ambient vacuum level. The average quality factors of the devices packaged under pressures of 50, 100, and 200 mTorr were 4987, 3415, and 2127, respectively. The results demonstrated the high controllability of the quality factor by vacuum adjustment. The mechanical robustness of the quality factor was confirmed by comparing the quality factors before and after high-temperature storage. Furthermore, through more than 50 days of monitoring, the stability of the quality factor was also certified.

  • In this paper, the effect of background grey levels on the visual perception of target image displayed on CRT monitor has been investigated. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy of CRT monitor as a display medium of image Information especially in medical imaging field. Tllree sets of experiments have been performed in this study : the first was to measure the luminance response of CRT monitor and to find the best fitting equation, and the second was the psychophysical experiment measuring the threshold grey level differences between the target image and the background required for visual discrimination (or various background grey levels, and the third was to develop a visual model that is predictable of the threshold grey level difference measured in the psychophysical experiment. The result of psycophysical experiment shows that the visual perception performance is significantly degraded in the range of grey levels lower than 50, which is turned out due to she low luminance change of CRT monitor in this range while human eye has been adapted lo relatively bright ambient illumination. And it Is also shown in the simulation study using the developed visual model that the dominant factor degrading the visual performance is the reflected light from the monitor surface by ambient light in general illumination condition.

  • IZO transistors with $Al_2O_3$ as gate dielectrics have been investigated. To improve permittivity in an ambient dielectric layer, we grew $Al_2O_3$ by atomic layer deposition directly onto the substrates. Then, we prepared IZO semiconductor solutions with 0.1 M indium nitrate hydrate [$In(NO_3)_3{\cdot}xH_2O$] and 0.1 M zinc acetate dehydrate [$Zn(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}2H_2O$] as precursor solutions; the IZO solution made with a molar ratio of 7:3 was then prepared. It has been found that these oxide transistors exhibit low operating voltage, good turn-on voltage, and an average field-effect mobility of $0.90cm^2/Vs$ in ambient conditions. Studies of low-voltage driving of IZO transistors with atomic layer-deposited high-k $Al_2O_3$ as gate dielectric provide data of relevance for the potential use of these materials and this technology in transparent display devices and displays.

  • In this study we report a rapid synthesis of nanoporous organo-functional silica (OFS) with unimodal and bimodal pore structures encompassing pores ranging from meso-to macroscale. The problems of tediousness and high production cost in the conventional syntheses are overcome by co-condensation of an inexpensive inorganic precursor, sodium silicate with an organosilane containing trimethyl groups. The insitu covalent anchoring of the non-polar trimethyl groups to the inner pore walls prohibits irreversible shrinkage of the wet-gel during microwave drying at ambient pressure and thus larger size pores (from ca. 20 to ca. 100 nm) can be retained in the dried silica. The drying process of the silylated wet-gels at an ambient pressure can be greatly accelerated upon microwave exposure instead of drying in an oven or furnace. Using this approach, anoporous and superhydrophobic silicas showing a wide variation in texture and morphology can be readily synthesized in roughly two hours. The effects of various sol-gel parameters solely on the textural properties of the organo-functional silica (OFS) have been investigated and discussed.

  • The operation of subway trains induces secondary structure-borne vibrations in the nearby underground spaces. The vibration, along with the associated noise, can cause annoyance and adverse physical, physiological, and psychological effects on humans in dense urban environments. Traditional tethered instruments restrict the rapid measurement and assessment on such vibration effect. This paper presents a novel approach for Wireless Smart Sensor (WSS)-based autonomous evaluation system for the subway train-induced vibrations. The system was implemented on a MEMSIC's Imote2 platform, using a SHM-H high-sensitivity accelerometer board stacked on top. A new embedded application VibrationLevelCalculation, which determines the International Organization for Standardization defined weighted acceleration level, was added into the Illinois Structural Health Monitoring Project Service Toolsuite. The system was verified in a large underground space, where a nearby subway station is a good source of ground excitation caused by the running subway trains. Using an on-board processor, each sensor calculated the distribution of vibration levels within the testing zone, and sent the distribution of vibration level by radio to display it on the central server. Also, the raw time-histories and frequency spectrum were retrieved from the WSS leaf nodes. Subsequently, spectral vibration levels in the one-third octave band, characterizing the vibrating influence of different frequency components on human bodies, was also calculated from each sensor node. Experimental validation demonstrates that the proposed system is efficient for autonomously evaluating the subway train-induced ambient vibration of underground spaces, and the system holds the potential of greatly reducing the laboring of dynamic field testing.

  • In this paper, we propose a computational generation method of elemental images for time-multiplexed 3D integral imaging display based lens division. In the proposed method, we analyze the image formation between 3D object and elemental images based on ray optics. Based on the analyzed formation, we generate the elemental image set for time-multiplexed display. Positions of an object point picked up in proposed method is shifted for half size of lens divided from those in conventional method when generating elemental images. To show the usefulness of the proposed method, we carry out the preliminary experiments and present the results.

  • In this paper, we presented a simple hologram recording set for learners to broaden their program choices and experience holographic techniques with lifelong education programs. In order to obtain quality 3D images, the quality of light sources and recording mediums, which are the main elements of hologram recording, must be good. In addition, due to the characteristics of the hologram, the ambient vibrations shall be minimized for accurate interference pattern recording. The simple hologram recording set presented in this paper has not significantly restricted in space and location, and anyone can easily experience it at a reasonable price compared to the existing hologram production method. Also, it can make two different type of hologram (transmission and reflection) for providing easy access to recording and reconstruction of the hologram. Experiments have shown that holographic manufacturing practices are a very useful way to educate the public on optics and photonics technologies.

  • On the piezoelectric polymer, PVDF (poly vinylidene fluoride), the transparent conducting oxide (TCO) electrode material thin film was deposited by roll to roll sputtering process mentioned as a mass product-friendly process for display application. The deposition method for ITO Indium Tin Oxides) as our TCO was DC magnetron sputtering optimized for polymer substrate with the low process temperature. As a result, a high transparent and good conductive ITO/PVDF film was prepared. During the process, especially, the gas mixture ratio of Ar and Oxygen was concluded as an important factor for determining the film's physical properties. There were the optimum ranges for process conditions of mixture gas ratio for ITO/PVDF From these results, the doping mechanism between the oxygen atom and the metal element, Indium or Tin was highly influenced by oxygen partial pressure condition during the deposition process at ambient temperature, which gives the conductivity to oxide electrode, as generally accepted. With our studies, the process windows of TCO for display and other application can be expected.
