Is Currency Appreciation or Depreciation Expansionary in Thailand?

  • Many developing countries have attempted to depreciate their currencies in order to make their products cheaper, stimulate exports, shift aggregate demand to the right, and increase aggregate output. However, currency depreciation tends to increase import prices, raise domestic inflation, reduce capital inflows, and shift aggregate supply to the left. The net impact is unclear. The paper incorporates the monetary policy function in the model, which is determined by the inflation gap, the output gap, the real effective exchange rate, and the world real interest rate. Applying an extended IS-MP-AS model (Romer, 2000), the paper finds that real depreciation raised real GDP during 1997.Q1-2005.Q3 whereas real appreciation increased real GDP during 2005.Q4-2017.Q2. In addition, a higher government debt-to-GDP ratio, a lower U.S. real federal funds rate, a higher real stock price, a lower real oil price or a lower expected inflation rate would help increase real GDP. Hence, real depreciation or real appreciation may increase or reduce aggregate output, depending upon the level of economic development. Although expansionary fiscal policy is effective in stimulating the economy, caution needs to be exercised as there may be a debt threshold beyond which a further increase in the debt-to-GDO ratio would hurt economic growth.

  • Recently, the use of selective crushed aggregates is increasing due to the supply and demand shortage of aggregates. In the case of selective crushed aggregates, aggregates are produced using soil, rocks, etc., mainly generated at construction sites as raw materials. As a result, the quality of the raw material may not be uniform and may contain a large amount of soil. In the case of using such a bad aggregate shortens the life of the structure, there is a fear that adversely affect the overall performance, such as the strength and durability of the concrete. Therefore, this study analyzes the effect of aggregate soil on mortar in the low-strength mortar and ultimately proposes the regulation value of clay content in the soil content of crushed aggregates such as crushed aggregates.

순환잔골재를 활용한 섬유 보강 콘크리트의 소성 및 초기 건조수축평가 (An Evaluation of Plastic and Early Dry Shrinkage of Fiber Reinforced Concrete Using Recycled Aggregate)

  • 골재자원의 부족과 폐기콘크리트의 증가로 인하여 순환골재사용의 필요성이 증가되고 있다. 그러나 순환골재의 건조수축으로 인한 균열등과 같은 문제점이 지적되어 이에 대한 연구가 요구되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 순환골재에 관한 연구의 일환으로 순환잔골재를 활용한 섬유 보강 콘크리트의 소성 및 초기 건조수축균열을 판상-링형구속수축시험 및 모의부재 옥외폭로시험을 통하여 측정하였다. 그 결과 판상-링형구속수축시험의 경우 순환잔골재를 사용한 콘크리트가 천연 잔골재보다 균열발생이 크게 나타났으며 섬유혼입의 경우 무혼입보다 높은 균열 저감성능을 나타내었다. 모의부재 실험에 있어서도 판상-링형구속수축시험과 유사하게 순환잔골재를 사용한 콘크리트가 균열발생이 큰 것으로 나타났으며 섬유 혼입의 경우 높은 저감 성능을 나타내었다.

부순모래의 실용화 방안에 관한 연구 (A Study on Practicalization Plan of Concrete Using Crushed Sand)

  • This study is being done for the purpose to achieve a stable demand and supply of materials for long term. The author investigated condition of suitable mixer design method for concrete, an individual value and a character of dynamics as a supplement material by drying up the natural aggregate, and a possible practicalization plan to reduce defects to the minimum. As a result of this study, it can be acquired a good quality of concrete by the use of the natural sand (Nak Dong river sand) and the crushed sand with suitable mixing ratio. The fineness modulus (F.M) of mixing aggregate is $2.7\pm1$ at this time and this is good for workbility and plasticity of concrete.

Symmetric and Asymmetric Approaches to Money Demand Determination in Indonesia: Is Divisia Money Relevant?

  • This study aims to examine whether symmetric effects or asymmetric effects of exchange rates exist in determining the money demand in Indonesia. Simple-sum money and Divisia money were included in different models for comparison due to the financial developments in Indonesia. This study uses time-series data from 1996Q1 to 2019Q4 for the estimation. The nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag (NARDL) model is utilized to verify the asymmetric effects of exchange rates on money demand. The Augmented Dickey-Fuller and Phillips-Perron unit root tests were performed to verify the order of integration of the variables. The findings of this study revealed that the exchange rate is one of the most important determinants of money demand in Indonesia and the effect is asymmetric. The findings further indicated that money demand function, which incorporates Divisia monetary aggregate is parsimonious. Monetary targets such as money supply and interest rates are critical for monetary policy conduct to achieve inflation levels set by government. As the adoption of an inflation targeting framework needs to be in keeping with the flexible exchange rate system, the asymmetric effect of exchange rate changes can be used in exchange rate policy conduct to achieve financial system and price stability.

  • As concrete is used in many construction works, the use of aggregates is increasing. However, supply and demand of high-quality aggregates has become difficult recently, and although circular aggregates that recycle construction waste are used, the performance of concrete, such as liquidity and strength, are being reduced due to defective aggregates. As a result, quality tests such as sieve analysis test are conducted, but a lot of waste occurs such as time and manpower. To solve this problem, this study was conducted to measure the assembly rate of fine aggregate, which accounts for about 35% of the concrete volume, using Deep Learning.

  • Recently, as concrete is used in many construction works in Korea, the use of aggregates is also increasing. However, the depletion of aggregate resources is making it difficult to supply and demand high-quality aggregates, and the use of defective aggregates is causing problems such as poor performance such as the liquidity and strength of concrete pouring out in the field. As a result, quality tests such as sieve analysis test is conducted on their own, but this study was conducted to improve time and manpower by using the CNN-based Deep Learning Model for the fineness modulus.

3D 프린팅으로 제작한 굵은 골재를 사용한 경량콘크리트의 압축강도 실험 (Compressive Strength Experiment of Lightweight Concrete Using Coarse Aggregate Produced by 3D Printing)

  • 콘크리트의 품질에 큰 영향을 미치는 중요 자재인 굵은 골재는 채취장소, 생산방법 등에 따라 다양하게 생산된다. 현재 건설업계는 굵은 골재의 안정적인 공급과 표준적인 품질 확보 방안이 필요한 실정이다. 본 연구는 굵은 골재를 3D 프린팅으로 제작하여 사용하는 것이 이 문제 해결에 도움이 되는지를 검토하는 것이 목적이다. 3D 프린팅을 위한 필라멘트는 검토 결과 ABS 필라멘트가 선정되었다. 굵은 골재의 설계는 CATIA를 사용했으며, 제작은 CUBICON Single Plus를 사용하였다. 공시체는 3개의 AE제를 사용 것과 3개의 그렇지 않은 것 등 총 6개를 제작한 후 28일 동안 수중 양생하였다. 압축강도 시험 결과 AE제를 사용할 경우 콘크리트표준시방서에서 규정한 경량콘크리트 설계기준의 최저 압축강도 이상이 발현됨을 확인했다. 이는 3D 프린터로 제작한 굵은 골재가 경량콘크리트의 굵은 골재로 사용될 가능성이 있음을 시사한다. 특히 대량생산 체계를 갖출 경우 궁극적으로 굵은 골재의 안정적 수급과 표준적인 품질 확보라는 건설업계가 당면하고 있는 문제 해결에도 일조할 수 있을 것이다. 향후에는 3D 프린팅으로 제작한 굵은 골재의 부착력 향상 방안, 경제성 분석 등에 관한 연구를 진행할 예정이다.

Assessment of the Korean-Chinese Exports Competition in Sophisticated Markets

  • Purpose - This paper empirically investigates the competition effect of exports between Korea and China in their common-export markets considering market sophistication. Modern market sophistication includes an importing country's aggregate demand for products of high quality, design, novelty, eco-friendliness, and even IPR protection. Using an empirical analysis to identify the demand for product quality across countries, this paper estimates the effects of market sophistication on the competition between Korean exports and Chinese products. Design/Methodology - Our empirical model considers the relationship between an importing country's consumer sophistication and the export competition between Korea and China. This study employs the existing theoretical framework to identify the aggregate demand for product quality across countries. Using a quite direct measurement (the consumer sophistication index, our analysis investigates the differential effects of Korea's export market sophistication, particularly in markets where Korean exports are in competition with similar Chinese products. Findings - Our main findings can be summarized as follows: the negative effects of the export competition between Korea and China on Korea's exports are stronger in third markets where consumers are less sophisticated while the effects are not as pronounced in markets where consumers are more sophisticated. This result, however, best applies to differentiated goods which significantly vary in product quality. Originality/value - Existing studies focus on the supply side of production and make the assumption that the market preference for export quality is identical across countries. This paper attempts to evaluate the export competition between Korea and China from the demand-side perspective. This area of trade studies is underexplored both empirically and in theory, although the issue has long been important to Korean and world trade.

  • 천연골재의 고갈 및 환경규제에 의한 건설용 잔골재의 수급불균형 문제를 해결하기 위해 폐기콘크리트로부터 생산된 순환잔골재의 적용성을 위한 연구들이 수행되어 왔다. 본 연구의 목적은 W/C 및 단위수량의 변화에 따른 순환잔골재를 사용한 콘크리트의 역학적 특성 및 내구성능에 관한 이해를 높이는 것이다. 또한, 순환콘크리트의 구조적 적용을 위한 기초자료를 제시하는데 의미가 있다. 특히, 순환잔골재를 100% 대체한 순환콘크리트에 대하여 W/C 및 단위수량의 변화에 따른 영향은 공기량, 슬럼프, 응결시간, 압축강도, 인장강도, 탄산화 및 염화물 침투와 같은 항목에 대한 시험결과에 의해 분석 제시되었다.
