  • In this paper, we describe the MI2U ORB function which is a part of the flight software executed on SCU and controls MI2U/MI which is one of three payloads on COMS. The MI2U ORB function manages MI2U/MI redundancy and reconfiguration, monitors MI2U/MI equipment, performs FDIR, and provides the routing service of commands from Ground/IP (Interpreted Program) through the current used 1553 channel. The MI2U hardware achieves the interface between the SCU and the MI. The MI2U is connected to SCU through MIL-STD-1553B system bus. The MI2U has the internal redundancy but is used in cold redundancy. The MI2U ORB function considers that they are not expected to be simultaneously switched on. The connection combination between MI2U and MI is electrically cross-strapped. However the MI2U ORB function considers only two combinations (MI2U A + MI 1, MI2U B + MI 2). Other combinations can be manually achieved by ground in case of the emergency case.

  • This paper shows the research about the development of software receiving platform processing GPS/Galileo L1/E1/E5a signal. Various researches for new GNSS signal character are possible using software receiving platform by facile program code modification. In addition, the program that processes GPS and Galileo signal integration is expected to help developing integration of receiver algorithm that deal with new various GNSS signal. In this paper, it is introduced the structure of GPS/Galileo receiving platform using sampled IF data as a program input. The function of the software platform embodied using MATLAB tool is tested by live data from Galileo test satellites. The software platform is modulated according to their roll and function. Each module is able to use selective function on GNSS signal.

  • Frame Synchronization is applied to not only digital data transmission for data synchronization between transmitter and receiver but also data communication with satellite. When satellite image data with high resolution and mass storage is transmitted, hardware frame synchronizer for real-time processing or software frame synchronizer for post-processing is used. In case of hardware, processing with high speed is available but data loss may happen for Search of Frame Synchronization. In case of software, data loss does not happen but speed is relatively slow. In this paper, Pending Buffer concept was proposed to cope with data loss according to processing status of Frame Synchronization. Algorithm to process Frame synchronization with high speed using bit threshold search algorithm with pattern search technique and SIMD is also proposed.

  • Future sub-meter resolution LEO missions require simultaneous dual-polarization downlink and/or multiple channel downlinks in single polarization. Especially, dual-polarization is needed to cope with bandwidth limitation due to high speed data transmission. Current KARI 13m X-Band antenna system needs to be upgraded to cope with such downlink schemes. This paper describes brief discussions on engineering work regarding how to meet the new requirements with minimum impact on current system as well as C&M (Control and Monitoring) software.

  • Recently, In Aerospace area the interest of open source software is increasing. One of examples is celestia that is used for visualizing space environment with 3D. Celestia that is open source software has many advantages. First is very easy to use, second is that it can extend new features easily with script language. It is very useful to extend with other systems. But, celestia has a few of remote control features from remote site. In this paper I describe design and implementation of remote control module using UDP communication protocol between celestia and GenSim that is satellite simulation software developed by KARI and describe the problem and solution items are found during development duration.

  • Change detection is a core function of remote sensing. It can be widely used in public services such as land monitoring, damage assessment from disaster, analysis of city growth, etc. However, it seems that the change detection using satellite imagery has not been fully used in public services. For the person who is in charge of public services, it seems not to be ease to implement the change detection because various functions are combined into it. So, to promote the use of the change detection in public services, the standard, the process and the method for the change detection in public services should be established. And the software which supports that will be very useful. This study aims to promote the use of satellite imagery in public services by building up the change detection process which are suitable for general public services and developing the change detection software to support the process. The software has been developed using ETRI Components for Satellite Image Processing to support the interoperability with other GIS software.

  • In this paper, current industrial trend of simulator development which is widely spreaded and performed in globally is introduced. Usage of satellite simulator is becoming an essential choice since the complexity of satellite and mission is being continuously increased. Satellite simulation brings reduction of satellite development cost and of period which is consumed by test on satellite development for various phases. Further more, it can be used to reduce the development period of satellite since developed resource and knowledge is possible to be delivered to next program effectively.

  • It is recognized that safety is a key point of technical competency. Its adoption is widely spread in development of products and it is essentially necessary in aerospace industry because airborne system and equipment are used complex high-technology and implemented systematic performance using software. This study reviews system safety assessment, development assurance level, airborne software, RTCA DO-178 process, and considerations & pitfalls in software development.
