  • This paper presents a numerical simulation of guided ultrasonic waves propagating in aluminum-epoxy-aluminum adhesive plates. In particular, this study investigated the effect of the epoxy thickness on the dispersive patterns, such as the phase velocity and group velocity of guided ultrasonic waves. In addition to investigating the dispersive curves, a numerical simulation using the pulse-echo method was carried out. This simulation showed that the degree of sensitivity of the epoxy thickness is dependent on the curvature of the phase and group dispersion curves, the maximum amplitude of the received time signals, and the peak frequency of the real components of the Fourier transform. Then, the linear relations between the epoxy thickness and the received and transformed signals were constructed to estimate the epoxy thickness.

  • We constructed Seal type waterproofing with adhesive and swelling properties in the field of construction work as yet. But we have many problems of seal type waterproofing with adhesive and swelling properties for construction. Because it has high viscosity, so wokers are too adhered for the work. So, we developed and applied about the high temperature and spray equipments of piston type better than before. We able to be expect that cost reduction and increase construction ability by high temperature and spray equipments of piston type.

  • Substantial experimental and theoretical work exists on the bond characteristics of FRP-concrete adhesive joints. Analytic solutions based on fracture mechanics are most commonly accepted for theoretical work on joint. The solutions may be derived for the simple form of the shear strees-slip curve. And it is difficult to determine the model parameters consisting the curve. In this study, the bilinear curve with softening branch is introduced. The model parameters are determined by the method described by the companion paper with comparison of test results. There are many uncertainties in the test results of CFRP sheet adhesive joints, so that test results used for the construction of the regression problem should be reasonably selected.

  • One approach to testing the suitability of an adhesive joint for a particular application is to build and test to destruct ion a representative sample of the joint. The nondestructive test will not measure strength directly but will measure a parameter which can be correlated to strength. It is therefore, essential that a suitable nondestructive test is chosen and that its results are correctly interpreted. In this paper, typical defects found in adhesive joints are described together with their significance. The limits and likely success of current physical nondestructive tests are described, and future trends outlined.

  • We investigated the stability of ionic configurations of the tip of the cantilever in non-contact AFM.; For this, we used a computational model that couples the ionic motion of the MgO surface and the oscillating cantilever. The motion of ions was connected to the oscillating cantilever using a coupling method that had been recently developed. The adhesive process on the ionic MgO surface leads to energy dissipation of the cantilever. It is shown that limited types of ionic configurations of the tip are stable during the adhesive process. Based on the present computational model, we discuss the adhesive mechanism leading to energy dissipation.

  • This study is carried out to determine the scavenging effect of resorcinol added into the urea formaldehyde resin on the formaldehyde release of plywood, as the preliminary study of using the phenolic substances. The method for formaldehyde determination used in this report is the improved chromotropic acid determination. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Resorcinol added into the urea formaldehyde adhesive acts as a good scavenger. 4 percent of resorcinol reduced the formaldehyde release to less than half content. 2. Adding resorcinol gave better glue shear strength than that of control, showing the peak of the shear strength, at 2 percent and decreased to the same strength as control along its content of 4 percent. 3. Moisture content of air dried plywood met the standard very well.

  • In the present work, ultrasonic testing method has been developed to evaluate adhesive layers in rocket motor case assembly for the reliability of the rocket. The main objective of the present work was to find debonding between steel and rubber layers. The relationship between adhesion ratio and reflected ultrasonic amplitude was calculated by considering reflection coefficient at the interface between steel and rubber layers. It was found that the higher amplitude of ultrasound is reflected for the debonding area, and shown good agreements with experimental results. The ultrasonic C-scan images offers good implements for the determination of debonding area. The nondestructive testing results were compared with the micrography of destruective testing. As results, ultrasonic testing could be utilized for the evaluation of adhesive layer in the rocket motor case assembly.

  • A theoretical method to predict the interfacial stresses in the adhesive layer of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with externally bonded carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) plate is presented. The analysis provides efficient calculations for both shear and normal interfacial stresses in reinforced concrete beams strengthened with composite plates, and accounts for various effects of Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus of adhesive. Such interfacial stresses play a fundamental role in the mechanics of plated beams, because they can produce a sudden and premature failure. The analysis is based on equilibrium and deformations compatibility approach developed by Tounsi. In the present theoretical analysis, the adherend shear deformations are taken into account by assuming a parabolic shear stress through the thickness of both the reinforced concrete beam and bonded plate. The paper is concluded with a summary and recommendations for the design of the strengthened beam.

  • The pulse-echo method is one of the most widely used ultrasonic techniques for application of nondestructive evaluation. Particularly, quantitative nondestructive evaluation of defects has been considered more important to assure the reliability and the safety of structure. Frequency energy in adhesive joints is based on the ultrasonic wave analysis. The attenuation coefficient upon wave amplitude and the frequency energy that is expressed in the term of wave pressure amplitude were utilized for the primary wave experiment. By means of a control experiment, it was confirmed that the variation of the frequency energy in adhesive joints depends on transition by stress variation. In this paper, the ultrasonic characteristics were measured for single lap joint and Double Cantilever Beam specimen with different fracture modes that was subjected to stress. Consequently, the data that was obtained from the adhesive specimen was analytically compared to the fracture mechanics parameter

  • In this study, 2,5-dichlorobenzophenone was synthesized as a monomer using 1,4-dichlorbenzene, and subsequently, copolymers of benzoyl-p-phenylene and p-phenylene were prepared. The average molecular weight was improved using the low-molecular-weight polymer cutting method. The average molecular weight and glass transition temperature of the synthesized polymers were estimated. The as-prepared polymer was used as a hard coating material, and the coating was conducted on a poly(methyl methacrylate) plate. Furthermore, physical properties of the coatings, such as pencil hardness, adhesive strength, and abrasion resistance, were estimated. As the amount of p-phenylene in the copolymer increased, pencil hardness and abrasion resistance improved. The amount of p-phenylene in the copolymer can be increased to 30 mol% in order to increase the hardness of the coating, and the adhesive strength was insufficient for the copolymers with p-phenylene ratio greater than 35 mol%.
