Advanced Alignment-Based Scheduling with Varying Production Rates for Horizontal Construction Projects

  • Horizontal construction projects such as oil and gas pipeline projects typically involve repetitive-work activities with the same crew and equipment from one end of the project to the other. Repetitive scheduling also known as linear scheduling is known to have superior schedule management capabilities specifically for such horizontal construction projects. This study discusses on expanding the capabilities of repetitive scheduling to account for the variance in production rates and visual representation by developing an automated alignment based linear scheduling program for applying temporal and spatial changes in production rates. The study outlines a framework to apply changes in productions rates when and where they will occur along the horizontal alignment of the project and illustrates the complexity of construction through the time-location chart through a new linear scheduling model, Linear Scheduling Model with Varying Production Rates (LSMVPR). The program uses empirically derived production rate equations with appropriate variables as an input at the appropriate time and location based on actual 750 mile natural gas liquids pipeline project starting in Wyoming and terminating in the center of Kansas. The study showed that the changes in production rates due to time and location resulted in a close approximation of the actual progress of work as compared to the planned progress and can be modeled for use in predicting future linear construction projects. LSMVPR allows the scheduler to develop schedule durations based on minimal project information. The model also allows the scheduler to analyze the impact of various routes or start dates for construction and the corresponding impact on the schedule. In addition, the graphical format lets the construction team to visualize the obstacles in the project when and where they occur due to a new feature called the Activity Performance Index (API). This index is used to shade the linear scheduling chart by time and location with the variation in color indicating the variance in predicted production rate from the desired production rate.

  • 동적 변화가 상존하는 건설환경에서, 보수·리모델링 프로그램의 관리자는 자원하의 복수 프로젝트를 조정·관리하는데 어려움을 겪게 된다. 프로그램에 내재하는 불확실성과 상호종속성으로 인해, 단위작업의 지연과 그로 인한 연쇄적인 공정계획의 동요는 프로그램 전체의 안정성과 관리가능성을 저해한다. 본 논문은 먼저 건설관리에 적용되었던 생산관리기법들이 프로그램관리에 적용될 수 있는가를 살펴본 후, 프로그램 내부의 자원유동의 흐름에 주기적으로 버퍼를 설치하는 공정 안정화 모델을 제안하고자 한다. 몬테-칼로 시뮬레이션에 의한 비교실험으로 제안된 버퍼 관리모델의 성능을 프로그램의 생산성, 유연성, 그리고 안정성의 관점에서 분석하였다.

  • 선박 거주구 설계를 예로하여 선박설계에 있어서 업무 부하가 평준화된 최적의 설계일정계획을 도출할 수 있는 일정계획시스템을 수립하여 보았다. 설계일정관리에 영향을 주는 여러 요소들을 찾아 분석하여 최적의 설계일정을 도출할 수 있는 알고리즘을 설계하였다. 계획된 선박의 각 도면작성에 소요되는 시수를 신속하게 추정하기 위하여, 표준선박에 대한 기본 시수를 미리 설정하여 놓고 해당 선박에 대한 난이도를 적절히 적용하는 방법을 사용했다. 여러 도면작업의 진행상의 선후관계를 matrix table로 표현하여 일정표 작성의 전산화를 단순화 하였다. 이 시스템을 전산화 함으로써 계획된 선박에 대하여 그 선박의 특성이 충분히 반영 되어 작업이 평준화된 설계일정계획을 짧은 시간에 얻을 수 있었다.

  • Chinese medicine hospital enables the users to expect more efficient cure result in the psychological stability and the comfortable indoor environment by supplying the functional and aesthetic cure space with the medical action of good quality Medical activity is to treat the human life. Thus, hospital must be more human-centered-place than other space. Thus study is establishment of space to be able to lead more rational and active participation than the conservative and passive image of the department of diagnosis and treatment for outpatients is desirable. This study is the indoor schedule to suggest the direction about the department of diagnosis and treatment for outpatients of Chinese medicine hospital of native image with more comfortable and positive approach on the basis of above points at issues as the schedule to fulfill the performance of medical function and the emotional and psychological satisfaction of users as the human being-centered-medical institution on the subject of the department of diagnosis and treatment for outpatients in Chinese medicine hospital. And, this researcher progressed as follows by being premised on this 1. Description of Goai, Range and Method of Study and Suggestion of Study Direction 2. Concept introduction as the Basic Approach of Theory which is necessary for Study 3. The Problems were recognized by grasping the present condition in Korea through the questionaines 4. establishment of Concept and direction which are necessary for planning the indoor of the department of Diagnosis and Treatment for Chinese Medicine Hospital 5. 가정과 관련 클럽 활동의 실태분석 - 경상남도 동부지방의 중학교를 대상으로 - (A Study on Directions through the Actual Conditions of Club Activities related to Home Economics - the middle schools in East Gyungsangnamdo -)

  • This study has the aims to find out desirable directions and improve the problems that interfere with club activities related to the Home Economics curriculum. The number of 109 teachers and 345 students were surveyed from 81 middle schools in East Gyungsang-namdo, were performing club activities concerned with the Home Economics curriculum. The results of this study are as follows ; First. teachers were teaching 31 to 40 students per club activity. but they answered the ideal number of students to guidance were from 11 to 20 per club. Most teachers overloaded teaching students for the club activity. The most effective schedule of club activities was 4 hours once a month. The 80% of the objectives said that the expenses for the club activity were too many. especially their presentations. Second. the most of teachers were never educated to the training courses for the club activity. had no licenses. Home Economics teachers strongly felt for the necessity of training and its licenses than other subject teachers. Students wanted to learn by Home Economics teachers and specialists. Third, most teachers had presentation chances for the results of club activities once a rear as small schools had no presentation.

  • Single PPM Quality Innovation activity made a great contribution to strengthening the quality competitiveness and the international competitiveness for the domestic small and medium enterprises. But it doesn't work to companies that deal with the particular products for the difficulties during the promotion and the business management. Then, SQ-Mark, which is currently adopted to domestic automobile companies, was benchmarked and studied for its accessibility and solutions. Quality Innovation activity in the particular industry is requested to conduct the confirmation and the inspection in deeper level caused by the specialty of product itself, product engineering manufacturing processes. This study improved 6 steps of the Single PPM activity so that the Single PPM Quality Innovation activity is progressed well for the Mold industry especially among the particular industries. It shows the improvement to the management of the delivery schedule, which has been problematic, if adopted to the relating industries based on this study, it is anticipated to help the corporate operation much.

단일 복구조정활동 하에 단계적 퇴화를 가지는 단일기계 생산일정계획 (Single Machine Scheduling Problem with Step-deterioration under A Rate-modifying Activity)

  • In this paper, we deal with a single machine scheduling problems integrating with step deterioration effect and a rate-modifying activity (RMA). The scheduling problem assumes that the machine may have a single RMA and each job has the processing time of a job with deterioration is a step function of the gap between recent RMA and starting time of the job and a deteriorating date that is individual to all jobs. Based on the two scheduling phenomena, we simultaneously determine the schedule of step deteriorating jobs and the position of the RMA to minimize the makespan. To solve the problem, we propose a hybrid typed genetic algorithm compared with conventional GAs.

  • Recently, the construction companies show lots of interest in reducing the construction duration of apartment housing project in Korea. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the success factors of scheduling using the TACT technique in wall type apartment house construction for managing the construction schedule effectively. For appling the tact scheduling technique to wall type apartment house construction, the success factors can be summarized as follows : (1) zoning the horizontal and vortical work area properly, (2) preparing the flow chart of finishing works, (3) minimizing the undefined activity like chipping off the concrete wall, (4) reordering the construction activities for keeping up the continuity of works in winter season, (5) dividing the amount of work for minimizing the delay time of any activity, etc.

  • Construction projects are being more complicated in proportion to the economic development. Process management is a critical issue in the construction that decides success of a project. Especially, a TACT method which divides and manages resources to repeat each activity is more important. Although becoming an issue dealing with the delay at winter season, it is not property developed. This paper suggests 'activity priority method' and 'TACT unit method' through case study. We validate necessity and efficiency of the TACT method through simulations and a survey. We expect cost reduction by decreasing unnecessary spending.

  • In this paper, constrained resource project scheduling problems schedule project activities subject to finite constraints on the availability of non-storable resource. Further, resources are assumed to be available per period in constant amounts, and are also demanded by an activity in constant amounts throughout the duration of the activity. We describe formulation which minimizes the combined cost of fluctuations in resource demand and delay of project completion. Cost bounding procedures are augmented by dominance relationships presented as theorems. This paper presents algorithm for solving the problem. And numerical examples are presented. Sensitivity analysis to evaluate the effect of changes of cost efficients is conducted.
