  • The case of chronic alverolar abscess treated by apicoectomy and intubation technique is reported. The chronic alverolar abscess developed at the apex of the right lower first premolar in the 30-year old Korean female. And the lesion involved the root of the adjacent second premolar.

  • Nemoura phasianusa n. sp. is similar to Nemoura jezoensis in general morphology especially lateral view, but can be distinguished by the combination of the characters of the epiproctal shape whose apex is depressed medially, and sclerites of epiproct, which look like question marks without dots.

하드웨어 기반의 H.264 정수 변환 및 양자화 구현 (Hardware Implementation of Integer Transform and Quantization for H.264)

  • 본 논문에서는 H.264의 정수 변환 모듈, 양자화 모듈, 역양자화 모듈, 정수 역변환 모듈에 대한 하드웨어 구조를 제안한다. 새로운 동영상 압축기술인 H.264의 전체 구성 중에서 핵심 부분인 동영상 데이터의 영역 변환 및 양자화 기능들을 하드웨어로 설계할 수 있도록 알고리즘을 기술하고, 저전력 설계를 위하여 하드웨어 사이즈를 최소화하도록 구조를 정하였다. 구현된 전체 모듈들은 PCI 인터페이스를 통한 Altera APEX-II FPGA 구성과 삼성 STD130 0.18um CMOS Cell Library를 이용하여 각각 합성하고 검증하였다. 이렇게 검증된 구조의 성능은 ASIC으로 구현하였을 경우 최대 동작 주파수가 100MHz이며, QCIF의 사이즈 기준으로 초당 최대 1295 프레임의 계산을 수행할 수 있으며, 이는 하드웨어 기반의 H.264 실시간 부호화기를 설계하기에 적합한 구조임을 보여준다.

  • 백두산에서 개별꽃속의 신종인 애기개별꽃(Pseudostellaria baekdusanensis M. Kim)을 새로이 발견하여 기재하였다. 애기개별꽃은 잎의 크기가 비슷하며 꽃은 줄기 끝에 액생 또는 정생하고 꽃잎은 요두인 특징을 가져 긴개별꽃(P. japonica (Korshinsky) Pax)과 유사하다. 그러나 애기개별꽃은 식물체가 9-13 cm로 소형이고 1줄의 털이 줄기에 있고 엽신 가장자리 기부에만 긴 털이 있으며 꽃잎은 깊은 요두형이고 화주는 2개이며 폐쇄화가 식물체에 달리지 않는다. 반면에 긴개별꽃은 식물체는 25-35 cm로 대형이고 1-2줄의 털이 줄기에 있고 엽신 가장자리와 이면 중륵에 긴 털이 밀생하며 꽃잎은 얕은 요두형이고 화주는 (2) 3개이며 폐쇄화가 엽액에 달린다는 점에서 뚜렷하게 차이를 보인다.

각막지형도(topography) 각막곡률로부터 토릭 각막형상의 수식화 (Mathematical Expression of the Toric Cornea using Corneal Topography Measurements)

  • 목적: 수평축과 수직축 비가 다른 토릭각막의 형상을 수학적인 함수로 표현하여 각막곡률 분포의 분석과 콘택트 렌즈 착용에 필요한 눈물두께 계산에 적용한다. 방법: 각막을 타원함수로 가정하고 함수로부터 유도된 곡률반경식과 각막 토포그라피 측정 곡률반경을 일치시켜 타원함수의 변수를 결정하였다. 계산은 작성한 엑셀프로그램을 사용하였다. 결과: 중심이 각막 정점에 위치하지 않는 리본(나비)형 토포그라피 이미지를 가지는 직난시 각막의 수평, 수직 각 축에 대해 각막의 형상을 수치적으로 알 수 있는 타원함수를 구하였다. 결론: 각막에 대해 고도의 수차 등이 요구되지 않는 응용, 예를 들면 콘택트렌즈 피팅, 난시교정 등에 각막 형상을 단순한 타원함수로 표현하는 것이 편리할 것으로 판단된다.

ARGO 플로트를 이용한 전지구 해양관측 : ARGO 프로그램 소개 (Global Ocean Observation with ARGO Floats : Introduction to ARGO Program)

  • To monitor the world's oceans and understand the role of the oceans for climate change, an Array for Real-time Geostrophic Oceanography (ARGO) program has been carried out since year 2000. Autonomous profiling floats of about 820 are reporting the vertical temperature, salinity, and pressure profiles of the upper 2000 m underwater at regular time intervals. Meteorological Research Institute (METRI) of Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) launched 45 floats at the East Sea and the western Pacific to understand characteristics of water properties and develop the global ocean observation system as a part of international cooperation project. In this study, we introduce ARGO program, METRI-ARGO and the features of APEX float itself and their data formats. We also describe the significant points to be considered for using ARGO data.

Biodentine-a novel dentinal substitute for single visit apexification

  • Use of an apical plug in management of cases with open apices has gained popularity in recent years. Biodentine, a new calcium silicate-based material has recently been introduced as a dentine substitute, whenever original dentine is damaged. This case report describes single visit apexification in a maxillary central incisor with necrotic pulp and open apex using Biodentine as an apical barrier, and a synthetic collagen material as an internal matrix. Following canal cleaning and shaping, calcium hydroxide was placed as an intracanal medicament for 1 mon. This was followed by placement of small piece of absorbable collagen membrane beyond the root apex to serve as matrix. An apical plug of Biodentine of 5 mm thickness was placed against the matrix using pre-fitted hand pluggers. The remainder of canal was back-filled with thermoplasticized gutta-percha and access cavity was restored with composite resin followed by all-ceramic crown. One year follow-up revealed restored aesthetics and function, absence of clinical signs and symptoms, resolution of periapical rarefaction, and a thin layer of calcific tissue formed apical to the Biodentine barrier. The positive clinical outcome in this case is encouraging for the use of Biodentine as an apical plug in single visit apexification procedures.

치근 흡수에 영향을 주는 요소에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE AFFECTING FACTORS ON ROOT RESORPTION)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between incisor root resolution and sex, age, extraction, the magnitude and direction of tooth movement. The sample consisted of 189 randomly selected orthodontic patients, receiving standard edgewise orthodontic treatment in three private orthodontic onces at San Francisco. Pre-treatment and post-treatment periapicals and cephalometric radiographs were digitized. Measurements and superimpositions were made utilizing a computerized cephalometric analysis program. The variables were statistically analyzed. The results were as follows: 1. Mean apical root resorption values were $0.77{\pm}2.08mm$ for upper right central incisor, $0.88{\pm}2.11mm$ for upper left central incisor, $-0.05{\pm}2.09mm$ for lower right central incisor and $0.11{\pm}1.85mm$ for lower left central incisor. Apical root resorption of upper incisor was greater than lowers. 2. No correlation was found between sex and apical root resorption. 3. Apical root resorptions in adolescents were smaller than those in adults. 4. Apical root resorption was not affected by extraction. 5. Apical root resorption values of upper incisor were correlated to the horizontal and vertical movement of apex; Apical root resorption values of lower incisor were correlated to the vertical movement of apex.

  • The 2nd, 3rd, 4th 6th cranial nerve and the ophthalmic division of the 5th cranial nerve are derived from the optic foramen and superior orbital fissure. When these contents are attacked by a trauma the superior orbital fissure syndrome or the more severe orbital apex syndrome are onsetted. As their treatment we can consider the conservative treatment with the hypertonic solution and steroid. Also we can consider the more radical surgery. But their indications are debatable. As the emergency state the treatment plan requires rapid decision and very much considerations equaly. And the legal problems can be happened.

Synthesis of Tripod-shaped Liquid Crystals with sp3 Nitrogen at the Apex

  • Tripod-shaped liquid crystals with $sp^3$ nigrogen at the apex were prepared from triethanolamine. Their physical properties were investigated by using optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and X-ray diffraction measurements. The XRD study suggests that the tripod-shaped molecules show the 2D-ordered phase of either the frustrated smectic layer structure or discotic columnar phases.
