  • This paper presents an reduced-order near-optimal controller for the congestion control of Available Bit Rate (ABR) service in Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) networks. We introduce the model, of a class of ABR traffic, that can be controlled using a Explicit Rate feedback for congestion control in ATM networks. Since there are great computational complexities in the class of optimal control problem for the ABR model, the near-optimal controller via reduced-order technique is applied to this model. It is implemented by the help of weakly coupling and singular perturbation theory, and we use bilinear transformation because of its computational convenience. Since the bilinear transformation can convert discrete Riccati equation into continuous Riccati equation, the design problems of optimal congestion control can be reduced. Using weakly coupling and singular perturbation theory, the computation time of Riccati equations can be saved, moreover the real-time congestion control for ATM networks can be possible.

  • The ABR service class provides feedback based traffic control to transport bursty data traffic efficiently. Feedback based congestion control has first been studied to be applied to unicast connections. Recently. several congestion control algorithms for multicast connections have also been proposed as the number of ABR applications requiring multicast increases. With feedback based congestion control, the effectiveness of a traffic control scheme diminishes as propagation delay increases. Especially for a multicast connection, a remote destination may suffer unfair service compared to a local destination due to the delayed feedback. Amelioration of the disadvantages caused by feedback delay is therefore more important for remote destinations in multicast connections. This paper proposes a new switch behavior to provide effective feedback based mathc control for rentoh destinations. The proposed switches adjust the service rate dynamically in accordance woth the state of the downstream, that is, the congestion of the destinaion is immediately controlled by the nearest apstream switch before the source to ramp down the transmission rate of the connection. The proposed switch has an implementation overhead to have a separate buffer for each VC to adjust the service rate in accordance with a backward Rm cell of each VC. The buffer requirement id also increased at intermediate switches. Simulation results show that the proposed switch reduces the cell loss rate in both the local and the remote destinations and slso amelioratd the between the two destinations.

  • These days, streaming users are using ABR (Adaptive Bitrate) technique services by requesting the most adequate video rate selectively based on their own channel states. Most ABR related video rate adaptation techniques are only focused on real-time bitrate adaptations based on their own channel state, and misses energy limited characteristics that come from a mobile device's battery dependence. In other words, the mobile device's important characteristics and accompanying energy consumption are not being considered and causes dissatisfaction over streaming services. In this paper, we propose energy efficient prefetching based dynamic adaptive video streaming techniques, which saves unnecessary consumed energy while providing video rates of the same performance. Our scheme continuously turns off energy modules with enough streaming in the buffer and turns on in case of the opposite situation to save energy. Through the performance evaluation, this study's proposed scheme is 60% better than the previous work at global average mobile download speed.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient ABR multicast algorithm for ATM networks. In ABR multicast algorithim, the feedback consolidation is necessary to avoid excessive backward resource management (BRM) cells and to aggregate the information from BRM cells received from each branch. The proposed scheme is shown to achieve fast transient response to the congestion status on a branch as well as effectively eliminate the consolidation noise through system simulation.

  • In this paper we propose an explicit rate allocation algorithm for ATM(Asynchronous Transfer Mode) Networks using the available bit rate(ABR) class of service and study the performance of this algorithm. We examine the behavior of ABR traffic with the suggested algorithm, and demonstrate that the algorithm is fair and maintains network efficiency with low cell loss rate. The simulation results show substantial improvements in fairness and efficiency over the existing algorithms.

  • With recent development of high-speed wide-area wireless networks and wide spread of highperformance wireless devices, the demand on seamless video streaming services in Long Term Evolution (LTE) network environments is ever increasing. To meet the demand and provide enhanced Quality of Experience (QoE) with mobile users, the Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) has been actively studied to achieve QoE enhanced video streaming service in dynamic network environments. However, the existing DASH algorithm to select the quality of requesting video segments is based on a procedural algorithm so that it reveals a limitation to adapt its performance to dynamic network situations. To overcome this limitation this paper proposes a novel quality selection mechanism based on a Deep Q-Network (DQN) model, the DQN-based DASH ABR($DQN_{ABR}$) mechanism. The $DQN_{ABR}$ mechanism replaces the existing DASH ABR algorithm with an intelligent deep learning model which optimizes service quality to mobile users through reinforcement learning. Compared to the existing approaches, the experimental analysis shows that the proposed solution outperforms in terms of adapting to dynamic wireless network situations and improving QoE experience of end users.

  • This paper compares the performance of feedback consolidation algorithms with or without a fast overload indication function which has been recently proposed in the ATM Forum for multicast ABR (Available Bit Rate) services in ATM networks. We use the performance criteria such as the ACR (Allowed Cell Rate) of a source, queue length at a switch, link utilization, fairness, and BRM (Backward Resource Management) cell overhead. Simulation results show that performance of the feedback consolidation algorithms with a fast overload indication function can be improved sign.ificantly than that of algorithms without this function in terms of ramp-down delay, particularly in initial start-up period or under a severe overload situation. The fast overload indication function can be combined with any feedback consolidation algorithm, whereas its performance is highly dependent on an underlying basic feedback consolidation algorithm.

  • A new ER feedback switch control algorithm, called EMRCA(Explicit Max-min Rate Control Algorithm), to control the ABR services traffic in the ATM networks, is proposed in this thesis. This scheme was interpreted the ACR variation residing on between a transient state and a stable state using the two thresholds that is the $TH_{high}$ and $TH_{low}$ in the queue to detect switch nodes congestion, and decreased the difference of minimum and maximum ACR all active connection to enhance the line bandwidth utilization. The proiposed scheme used a minimum and maximum rate of all active connections to select the connection whose the congestion rate inveoked, and uses a congestion detection mechanixm to prevent some potential cogestion by regulating selected contection.s The EMRCA scheme showed ACR variation more stable that the EPRCA scheme, also reduced buffer size of the switch, and achieved higher link utilization than the EPRCA scheme.
