  • Large scale constructions needs to estimate a possibility for pumping concrete. In this paper, the state of the art on prediction of concrete pumping including analytical and experimental works is presented. The existing methods to measure the rheological properties of slip layer (or called lubricating layer) are first introduced. Second, based on the rheological properties of slip layer and parent concrete, models to predict concrete pumping (flow rate, pumping pressure, and pumpable distance) are explained. Third, influencing factors on concrete pumping are discussed with the test results of various concrete mixes. Finally, future need for research on concrete pumping is suggested.

  • Precast concrete slab track has been already turned out to be more efficient than cast-in place concrete slab track in view of the easiness of construction and the quality control of concrete. Thus, there is a great need to bring in the precast slab track system. In order to develop the realistic precast slab track system that is well conformed to our circumstances, the performance criteria of slab track, and the state-of-the art of precast slab track systems that are used in other countries are briefly discussed here.

Disaster management technologies and services based on state-of-the-art convergence technologies are being widely applied for the purposes of public safety. State-of-the-art scientific technologies including the Internet of Things (IoT) are expected to offer alternative solutions to pending issues of disaster and safety. Particularly in disaster management, a "prevention activity"to avoid and control disasters in advance is essential, and thus disaster prevention and safety monitoring technologies based on hyper-connected intelligence are fundamental for society during the 4th Industrial Revolution. IoT technologies are being actively applied and utilized in various fields to prevent social and natural disasters. In this article, we introduce the development trends of disaster prevention and safety monitoring technologies based on IoT technologies.

  • Fredrick Krause's chair in the Brooklyn Museum of Art (accession no. 87. 19) is a key to the understanding of factory-made, patent furniture, and the Modern Gothic style in the United States. However, research has rarely done for this chair as well as for the designer. Since this piece is incorporating the utility patent, it is a valuable example to understand the nineteenth-century patented furniture. Because of the popularity of Modern Gothic style, the similar style of chairs were often manufactured. This study explores how other examples are related and what the significance of the Brooklyn Museum chair is. The book of Sharon Darling provided especially helpful information about other Krause chairs in Fond du Lac and chair manufactures in Chicago. The interview with John Ebert at Galloway House in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin was especially helpful. Several primary sources proved helpful in researching the chair. The photo archives. of Kimbel and Cabus at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum provides me a key to this research.

  • Deep learning based methods achieve state-of-the-art accuracy, however, they typically rely on supervised training with large labeled datasets. It is known in many medical applications that labeling medical images requires significant expertise and much time, and typical hand-tuned approaches for data augmentation fail to capture the complex variations in such images. This paper proposes a 3D image augmentation method to overcome these difficulties. It allows us to enrich diversity of training data samples that is essential in medical image segmentation tasks, thus reducing the data overfitting problem caused by the fact the scale of medical image dataset is typically smaller. Our numerical experiments demonstrate that the proposed approach provides significant improvements over state-of-the-art methods for 3D medical image segmentation.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive review of recent advances in ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). Fundamental characteristics of UHPC are elaborated with focus on its material constituents, mixing, and formulation procedures. Use of state-of-the-art materials such as carbon nanotubes or nano-silica is discussed as well, whose inclusion may enhance the performance of UHPC. The review evaluates supplementary treatment methods (e.g., pressuring curing) and identifies applicable standard test methods for determining the properties and behavior of UHPC. Site implementation is provided to link laboratory research with full-scale application. Research needs are suggested to further develop UHPC technologies from technical and socio-economical perspectives.

  • Okakura Kakuz$\bar{o}$ (1863-1913), the founder of the Japan Art Institute, is best known for his proclamation, "Asia is One." This phrase in his book, The Ideals of the East, and his connections to Bengali revolutionaries resulted in Okakura being remembered as one of Japan's foremost Pan-Asianists. He did not, however, write The Ideals of the East as political propaganda to justify Japanese aggression; he wrote it for Westerners as an exposition of Japan's aesthetic heritage. In fact, he devoted much of his life to the preservation and promotion of Japan's artistic heritage, giving lectures to both Japanese and Western audiences. This did not necessarily mean that he rejected Western philosophy and theories. A close examination of his views of both Eastern and Western art and history reveals that he was greatly influenced by Hegel's notion of dialectics and the evolutionary theories proposed by Darwin and Spencer. Okakura viewed cross-cultural encounters to be a catalyst for change and saw his own time as a critical point where Eastern and Western history was colliding, causing the evolution of both artistic cultures.

  • Classical lithography in semiconductor employs stepper technologies. Limits of this technology are clearly seen at structures below 100nm. Nano-imprinting lithography is a new method for generating patterns in submicron range at reasonable cost. In order to manufacture nano-imprinting lithography(NIL) equipment, several NIL manufacturers have been developing key technologies for realization of nano-imprinting process, recently. In this paper, we've been describe state-of-the-art and technology trends for nano-imprinting lithography equipments.

  • This article describes a state-of-the art review in nano-biomanipulation technologies. Nanomanipulation of biological objects enables an in-depth study of single molecules such as DNA and RNA, and of biophysical events at the molecular level like molecular motors. Controlled nanomanipulation is challenging but essential for precisely engineering biomolecules or cells and for manufacturing functional nano-biosystems. In this paper, we summarize several contact, non-contact and hybrid methods available for nanomanipulation of biological objects. Advantages currently available methods and their limitations are also compared. Finally, we discuss possible applications of nano-biomanipulation technologies to life science and molecular medicine including cell biology, genetic engineering, biophysics, and biochemistry.

  • As an alternative of the high-level radioactive waste disposal in the subsurface repository, a deep borehole disposal is reviewed by several nuclear advanced countries. In this study, the state of the art on the borehole disposal researches was reviewed, and the possibility of borehole disposal in Korean peninsula was discussed. In the deep borehole disposal concept radioactive waste is disposed at the section of 3 - 5km depth in a deep borehole, and it has known that it has advantages in performance and cost due to the layered structure of deep groundwater and small surface disposal facility. The results show that it is necessary to acquisite data on deep geologic conditions of Korean peninsula, and to research the engineering barrier system, numerical modeling tools and disposal techniques for deep borehole disposal.
