Selecting Significant Wavelengths to Predict Chlorophyll Content of Grafted Cucumber Seedlings Using Hyperspectral Images

  • This study was performed to select the significant wavelengths for predicting the chlorophyll content of grafted cucumber seedlings using hyperspectral images. The visible and near-infrared (VNIR) images and the short-wave infrared images of cucumber cotyledon samples were measured by two hyperspectral cameras. A correlation coefficient spectrum (CCS), a stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR), and partial least squares (PLS) regression were used to determine significant wavelengths. Some wavelengths at 501, 505, 510, 543, 548, 619, 718, 723, and 727 nm were selected by CCS, SMLR, and PLS as significant wavelengths for estimating chlorophyll content. The results from the calibration models built by SMLR and PLS showed fair relationship between measured and predicted chlorophyll concentration. It was concluded that the hyperspectral imaging technique in the VNIR region is suggested effective for estimating the chlorophyll content of grafted cucumber leaves, non-destructively.

  • Palladium particles were synthesized by conventional chemical reduction method with ionic liquids. The size and shape of palladium particles were significantly affected by the cation parts of ionic liquids. This is mainly attributed to the different stabilities of the ionic liquid structure formed by the physical bond between the cation parts. Among ionic liquids with [$BF_{4}$] as an anion part, the hexyl substituent in the cation parts was more effective to synthesize palladium particles with the smaller size and more uniform shape.

  • 본 논문에서는, 모의 진공차단기 내에서의 구리 증기입자의 공간적 및 시간적 밀도분포를 레이저유기형광법 (LIF)에 의해 계측하였다. 레이저 트리거 방전에 의해 생성된 어블레이션(ablation) 플라즈마에서의 구리입자를 324.75nm의 Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용하여 여기시키고, 이때 여기준위에서 기저준위로 천이할 때의 형광신호(510.55nm)를 분광기 및 광전자증배관을 이용하여 계측하였다. 음극점으로부터 넓은 각도를 가지고 전자가 튀어나오며, 넓은 범위에 걸쳐 전자나 이온이 존재하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 또한 음극으로부터 8mm ( x=0, y=8mm 진 위치에서 가장 강한 신호와, 2mm ( x=0, y=2mm 가장 약한 신호를 얻을 수 있었다.

Effect of Staurosporine on the Long-term Secretion of Catecholamines Induced by Various Secretagogues in Cultured Bovine Adrenal Medullary Chromaffin Cells

  • Long-term treatment of cultured bovine adrenal medullary chromaffin (BAMC) cells with arachidonic acid $(100\;{\mu}M),$ angiotesnin II (100 nM), prostaglandin $E_2\;(PGE_2;\;10\;{\mu}M),$ veratridine $(2\;{\mu}M)$ or KCl (55 mM) for 24 hrs increased both norepinephrine and epinephrine levels in the supernatant. Pretreatment with staurosporine (10 nM), a protein kinase C (PKC) inhibitor, completely blocked increases of norepinephrine and epinephrine secretion induced by arachidonic acid, angiotensin II, $PGE_2,$ veratridine or KCl. In addition, K252a, another PKC inhibitor whose structure is similar to that of staurosporine, effectively attenuated both norepinephrine and epinephrine secretion induced by arachidonic acid. However, K252a did not affect the catecholamine secretion induced by angiotensin II, $PGE_2,$ veratridine or KCl. Our results suggest that staurosporine may inhibit long-term catecholamine secretion induced by various secretagogues in a mechanism other than inhibiting PKC signaling. Furthermore, long-term secretion of catecholamines induced by arachidonic acid may be dependent on PKC pathway.

  • The iLOV protein belongs to a family of blue-light photoreceptor proteins containing a light-oxygen-voltage sensing domain with a noncovalently bound flavin mononucleotide (FMN) as its chromophore. Owing to advantages such as its small size, oxygen-independent nature, and pH stability, iLOV is an ideal candidate over other reporter fluorescent proteins such as GFP and DsRed. Here, for the first time, we describe the feasibility of applying LOV domain-based fluorescent iLOV as a metal sensor by measuring the fluorescence quenching of a protein with respect to the concentration of metal ions. In the present study, we demonstrated the inherent copper sensing property of the iLOV protein and identified the possible amino acids responsible for metal binding. The fluorescence quenching upon exposure to Cu2+ was highly sensitive and exhibited reversibility upon the addition of the metal chelator EDTA. The copper binding constant was found to be 4.72 ± 0.84 µM. In addition, Cu2+-bound iLOV showed high fluorescence quenching at near physiological pH. Further computational analysis yielded a better insight into understanding the possible amino acids responsible for Cu2+ binding with the iLOV protein.

N-terminal GNBP homology domain of Gram-negative binding protein 3 functions as a beta-1,3-glucan binding motif in Tenebrio molitor

  • The Toll signalling pathway in invertebrates is responsible for defense against Gram-positive bacteria and fungi, leading to the expression of antimicrobial peptides via NF-$\kappa$B-like transcription factors. Gram-negative binding protein 3 (GNBP3) detects beta-1,3-glucan, a fungal cell wall component, and activates a three step serine protease cascade for activation of the Toll signalling pathway. Here, we showed that the recombinant N-terminal domain of Tenebrio molitor GNBP3 bound to beta-1,3-glucan, but did not activate down-stream serine protease cascade in vitro. Reversely, the N-terminal domain blocked GNBP3-mediated serine protease cascade activation in vitro and also inhibited beta-1,3-glucan-mediated antimicrobial peptide induction in Tenebrio molitor larvae. These results suggest that the N-terminal GNBP homology domain of GNBP3 functions as a beta-1,3-glucan binding domain and the C-terminal domain of GNBP3 may be required for the recruitment of immediate down-stream serine protease zymogen during Toll signalling pathway activation.

Nuclear Criticality Analyses of Two Different Disposal Canisters for Deep Geological Repository Considering Burnup Credit

  • The nuclear criticality analyses considering burnup credit were performed for a spent nuclear fuel (SNF) disposal cell consisting of bentonite buffer and two different types of SNF disposal canister: the KBS-3 canister and small standardized transportation, aging and disposal (STAD) canister. Firstly, the KBS-3 & STAD canister containing four SNFs of the initial enrichment of 4.0wt% 235U and discharge burnup of 45,000 MWD/MTU were modelled. The keff values for the cooling times of 40, 50, and 60 years of SNFs were calculated to be 0.79108, 0.78803, and 0.78484 & 0.76149, 0.75683, and 0.75444, respectively. Secondly, the KBS-3 & STAD canister with four SNFs of 4.5wt% and 55,000 MWD/MTU were modelled. The keff values for the cooling times of 40, 50, and 60 years were 0.78067, 0.77581, and 0.77335 & 0.75024, 0.74647, and 0.74420, respectively. Therefore, all cases met the performance criterion with respect to the keff value, 0.95. The STAD canister had the lower keff values than KBS-3. The neutron absorber plates in the STAD canister significantly affected the reduction in keff values although the distance among the SNFs in the STAD canister was considerably shorter than that in the KBS-3 canister.

  • 동영상 압축 표준인 H.264/AVC는 압축 효율을 높이기 위해 기존의 표준과는 다른 기법들을 사용함으로 압축률은 높였지만 보다 많은 계산량을 요구한다. 제한된 자원을 가진 임베디드 환경에서는 많은 계산량은 큰 문제점이 된다. DMB를 포함한 대부분의 경우는 이를 하드웨어적으로 구현을 하고 있지만 구현비용과 업데이트의 용의를 위해서 앞으로는 소프트웨어적으로도 구현이 가능해야 할 것이다. 본 논문에서는 H.264/AVC가 임베디드 환경에서 소프트웨어로 구현을 할 경우 그에 대한 성능 명가를 수행하기 위해 실제 임베디드 장비에서 H.264/AVC 복호기와 임베디드 그래픽 라이브러리를 사용해서 재생기를 구현하였고 다양한 종류의 영상을 재생시키는 실험을 하였다. 이러한 실험을 통해 임베디드 상에서 H.264/AVC 재생기는 QCIF 화면을 초당 3프레임 정도를 재생시키는 능력을 보였다. 이는 사용자측면에서는 동영상이라고 느낄 수 없을 정도의 성능이었다. 그러므로 임베디드 환경에서 H.264로 압축된 영상을 사용할 경우에는 H.264의 프로파일이나 레벨 조정 및 프레임 넘김 기법이 필요 할 것으로 추정한다.

  • For the self-directed rehabilitation of upper extremity hemiplegia patients, in this paper we propose an interface method capable of doing bilateral exercises in rehabilitation robotics. This is a method for estimating information of movements from the unaffected-side, and projects it to the affected-side in order. That the affected-side is followed the movements of the unaffected-side. For estimation of the unaffected-side movements information, gyro sensor data and acceleration sensor data were fused. In order to improve the measurement error in data fusion, a HDR filter and a complementary filter were applied. Estimated motion information is derived the one side of the drive input of rehabilitation robot. In order to validate the proposed method, experimental equipment is designed to be similar to the body's joints. The verification was performed by comparing the estimation angle data from inertial sensors and the encoder data which were attached to the mechanism.

  • This paper offer the characteristics for the detection and classification of biological and non-biological aerosol particles in the air by using laser-induced-fluorescence (LIF) based Bio-aerosol Detection System (BDS). The BDS is mainly consist of an optical chamber, in-outlet nozzle system, 405 nm diode laser, an avalanche photo detector (APD) for scattering signal and photomultiplier tubes (PMT) for fluorescence signals in two different wavelength range ; F1, 510-600 nm and F2, 435-470 nm. The detection characteristics, especially ratio of fluorescence signal intensity were examined using well-known components : polystylene latex (PSL), fluorescence PSL, $2{\mu}m$ of SiO2 micro sphere, dried yeast, NADH, ovalbumin, fungicide powder and standard dust. The results indicated that the 405 nm diode laser-based LIF instrument can be a useful bio-aerosol detection system for unexpected biological threaten alter in real-time to apply for dual-use technology in military and civilian fields.
