This paper presents a computational technique to predict roof crush resistance in early design stage of passenger car development. This technique use a simple F.E. model with nonlinear spring elements which represent plastic hinge behavior at weak areas. By assuming actual sections as equivalent simple sections, maximum bending moments which weak areas in major members can stand are theoretically calculated. Results from prediction of roof crush resistance are correlated well with test results.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of favorite music therapy on the stress response of hysterectomy patients undergoing general anesthesia. Methods: Date were collected from June 29, 2015 to January 18, 2016 and the participants were 79 hysterectomy patients (experimental group 40 and control group 39). The experimental group listened to their favorite music through earphones from the moment they entered the surgical waiting room until they exited from the post anesthesia care unit. Results: There were statistically significant differences in anxiety (F=15.92, p<.001), systolic blood pressure (F=4.23, p=.008), diastolic blood pressure (F=3.07, p=.033), and heart rate (F=19.93, p<.001) between participants in the experimental group and the control group according to measurement times. Conclusion: The study results show that favorite music therapy considering patients' preferences is effective in reducing anxiety among patients undergoing a hysterectomy under general anesthesia, thus leading to a stable change in their blood pressure and heart rate.
Prestressed composite steel-concrete beams are still a technology restricted to repair sites of large-scale structures and spans. One of the reasons for that is the absence of standard frameworks and publications regarding their design and implementation. In addition, the primary normative codes do not address this subject directly, which might be related to a scarcity of papers indicating methods of design that would align the two technics, composite beams and external prestressing. In this context, this paper proposes methods to analyze the sizing of prestressed composite beams submitted to pre-tension and post-tension with a straight or polynomial layout cable. This inquiry inspected a hundred and twenty models of prestressed composite beams according to its prestressing technology and the eccentricity and value of the prestressing force. The evaluation also included the ratio between span and height of the steel profile, thickness and typology of the concrete slab, and layout of the prestressing cables. As for the results, it was observed that the eccentricity of the prestressing force doesn't significantly influence the bending resistance. In prestressed composite beams subjected to a sagging moment, the ratio L/d can reach 35 and 30 for steel-concrete composite slabs and solid concrete slabs, respectively. Considering the negative bending moment resistance, the value of the L/d ratio must be less than or equal to 25, regardless of the type of slab. When it comes to the value of the prestressing force, a variation greater than 10% causes a 2.6% increase in the positive bending moment resistance and a 4% decrease in the negative bending moment resistance. The pre-tensioned composite beams showed a superior response to flexural-compression and excessive compression limit states than the post-tensioned ones.
This experiment has been made to study the relationship between several characters affecting the field lodging and to establish some useful standards for selection of lodging resistant varieties and to classify the degree of lodging resistance in wheat and barley varieties of different sources. The experiment was carried at the Crop Experiment Station, Suwon in 1968. The results obtained are summarized as followings. a. The lodging index modified with bending moment of culm at breaking seemed to be the most useful character in checking the lodging resistance. Highly significant positive correlation (Barley; r=0.40-0.67, Wheat; r=0.46-0.68) was obtained between the lodging index and actual field lodging. b. Between two essential components expressing bending stiffness of the culm, the bending moment at breaking and secondary moment of inertia, a highly significant positive correlation (Barley; r=0.59, wheat; r=0.46-0.53) was observed. c. The bending stiffness of culm got stronger as the dry weight per unit culm, which express the quantity of accumulated dry matters in culm, increased. The correlation coefficient between those two factors was 0.35 to 0.40 in barley and 0.33 to 0.76 in wheat respectively. d. In both wheat and barley, highly significant negative correlation between lodging index and the other factors such as dry weight per unit culm (Barley; r=-0. 51 to -0.70, Wheat; r=-0.65 to -0.83) and bending moment of culm at breaking (Barley; r=-0.29 to -0.69, Wheat: r=-0.54 to -0.89) were observed. Particulary, weight of culm at breaking, secondary moment of inertia and section modulus showed significant negative correlation with lodging index in wheat. e. Outside diameter of culm expressed more intimate relationship with physical characteristics of culm than inside diameter and also showed highly significant correlation with weight of culm at breaking (Barley; r=0.42-0.56, Wheat; r=0.39-0.44) and with bending moment of culm at breaking (Barley; r=0.40-0.41, Wheat; r=0.38-0.49) and with secondary moment of inertia (Barley; r=0.56-0.57, Wheat; r=0.28-0.98) and with section modulus (Wheat; r=0.22-0.96). Between the thickness of culm and physical characteristics of culm also showed the positive correlation. f. There was positive correlation between the culm length and actual field lodging in several groups of variety among the varieties tested. But the culm length seemed to undesirable as a selection measure for the selection of the lodging resistant variety considering the stiffness of culm. g. In classification of lodging resistance for the varieties tested, many Korean barley varieties expressed excellent lodging resistant than wheat, but most of the wheat and barley varieties from Japan considered quite resistant to lodging. h. In selection of lodging resistant varieties, lodging index lower than 1.67 in barley and 1. 76 in wheat considered highly resistant to actual field lodging.
This paper presents an experimental study, investigating the compressive behavior of glass-fibre reinforced and unreinforced cementitious material-filled square steel tubular (GFCMFST and CMFST) columns. The specimens were manufactured by using high performance cementitious materials without using coarse aggregate. The influence of adding glass-fibres to the mix on the behavior of both axially and eccentrically loaded columns is considered. It was found that adding glass fibre improvesthe confinement behavior, the axial compressive strength, the stiffness and the toughness of both axially and eccentrically loaded columns. The compressive strength of axially loaded columns is compared with strength predictions according to EC4 and the AISC specification. It was found that the design predictions according to EC4 and the AISC codes provide conservative results for CMFST and GFCMFST columns. Alternatively, the axial load-bending moment interaction diagrams specified in theEC4 are conservative for the eccentrically tubular CMFST and GFCMFST tested columns.
Optimal orthodontic treatment could be possible when a orthodontist can predict and control tooth movement by applying a planned force system to the dentition. The moment to force(M/F) ratio at the bracket, has been shown to be a primary determinate of the pattern of tooth movement. As various n/F ratios are applied to the bracket on the tooth crown, strain distribution in periodontium can be changed, and the center of rotation in tooth movement can be determined. It is, therefore, so important in clinicalorthodontics to know the strain distribution in a force system of a M/F ratio. The purpose of this study was to analyze the strain distribution in orthodontic force system by strain gauge attached to tooth root, and to evaluate the usage of the method. For this study, an experimental upper anterior arch model was constructed, where upper central incisors, on the root surface of which, 8 strain gauges were attached, were implanted In the photoelastic resin, as in the case of 4mm midline diastema. Three types of closing of upper midline diastema closure were compared : 1. with elastomeric chain(100g force) in no arch wire, 2. elastomeric chain in .016“ round steel wire, 3. elastomeric chain in .016”x.022“ rectangular steel wire. The results were as follows. 1. Strain distributions on labial, lingual, mesial and distal root surface of tooth were able to be evaluated with the strain gauge method, and the patterns of tooth rotation were understood by presuming the location of moment arm. 2. Extrusion and tipping movement of tooth was seen in closing in no arch wire, and intrusion and bodily movement was seen with steel arch wire inserted.
X-ray diffraction (XRD), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and vibrating sample magnetometry (VSM) were used to investigate the influence of Ni ions on the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of nickel-ferrites ($Ni_xFe_{3-x}O_4$). Spinel $Ni_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ ($x{\leq}0.96$) samples were prepared as polycrystalline thin films on $Al_2O_3$ (0001) substrates, using a sol-gel method. XRD patterns of the nickel-ferrites indicate that as the Ni composition increases (x > 0.3), a structural phase transition takes place from cubic to tetragonal lattice. The XPS results imply that the Ni ions in $Ni_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ substitute for the octahedral sites of the spinel lattice, mostly with the ionic valence of +2. The minority-spin d-electrons of the $Ni^{2+}$ ions are mainly distributed below the Fermi level ($E_F$), at around 3 eV; while those of the $Fe^{2+}$ ions are distributed closer to $E_F$ (~1 eV below $E_F$). The magnetic hysteresis curves of the $Ni_xFe_{3-x}O_4$ films measured by VSM show that as x increases, the saturation magnetization ($M_s$) linearly decreases. The decreasing trend is primarily attributable to the decrease in net spin magnetic moment, by the $Ni^{2+}$ ($2{\mu}_B$) substitution for octahedral $Fe^{2+}$ ($4{\mu}_B$) site.
In the superconducting $Sr_2VO_3FeAs$, containing bimetallic layers, with maximum $T_c{\approx}\;46\;K$ correlation effects on V ions have been investigated using LDA+U method. Within the local density approximation (LDA) this system has the one-third filled $t_{2g}$ manifold of V, decomposed into $d_{xy}$ of bandwidth W=2 eV and nearly degenerate $d_{zx}d_{yz}$ of W=1 eV. Consideration of correlation effects leads to a metal-insulator transition on V ions $t^{2\uparrow}_{2g}\;{\rightarrow}\;d^{1\uparrow}_{xz}\;d^{1\uparrow}_{yz}$ at the critical on-site Coulomb repulsion $U_c$= 3.5 eV. At U=4 eV, the electronic structure, in which V ions are insulating, leads to several van Hove singularities near $E_F$ and similar Fermiology with other pnictides. Applying U to V ions results in increasing Fe moment as well as V moment, indicating somewhat hybridization between Fe and V ions even though this system is strongly 2-dimesional. Our results show possible importance of correlation effects on this system.

Five concrete-encased steel columns using high-strength steel($f_{ys}$=801MPa) and high-strength concrete($f_{ck}$=97.7MPa) were tested to investigate the eccentric axial load-displacement relationship. Test parameters included the type, yield strength, and spacing of lateral reinforcement, and also the eccentricity of axial load. To analyze the behavior of the column specimens, the nonlinear sectional analysis using strain-compatibility and confinement effect was performed. To examine the applicability of existing design codes for the composite sections using high-strength materials, the test results were also compared with the predictions by the nonlinear analysis and the design codes. The confinement effect of lateral reinforcement increased the ductility of concrete, and the moment capacity of the column specimens increased with the ductility of concrete. The prediction by the nonlinear analysis gave good agreement with the test results. On the other hand, the ACI 318 neglecting lateral confinement effect underestimated the strength of the column specimens, and the Eurocode 4 using complete plastic capacity of steel section overestimated.

Objective: To quantify, for each activation, the effect of preactivations of differing distribution and intensity on the neutral position of T-loops (7-mm height), specifically the horizontal force, moment to force (M/F) ratio, and load to deflection ratio. Methods: A total 100 loops measuring $0.017{\times}0.025$ inches in cross-section were divided into two groups (n = 50 each) according to composition, either stainless steel or beta-titanium. The two groups were further divided into five subgroups, 10 loops each, corresponding to the five preactivations tested: preactivations with occlusal distribution ($0^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, and $40^{\circ}$), gingival distribution ($20^{\circ}$), and occlusal-gingival distribution ($40^{\circ}$). The loops were subjected to a total activation of 6-mm with 0.5-mm iterations. Statistical analysis was performed using comprised ANOVA and Bonferoni multiple comparison tests, with a significance level of 5%. Results: The location and intensity of preactivation influenced the force intensity. For the M/F ratio, the highest value achieved without preactivation was lower than the height of the loop. Without preactivation, the M/F ratio increased with activation, while the opposite effect was observed with preactivation. The increase in the M/F ratio was greater when the preactivation distribution was partially or fully gingival. Conclusions: Depending on the preactivation distribution, displacement of uprights is higher or lower than the activation, which is a factor to consider in clinical practice.
