The potential effects of ginseng saponin on the growth, aflatoxin production, and physicochemical characteristics of Aspergillus parasiticus R-716 were investigated and the results obtained were summarized as follows. The pH values of culture filtrate were increased with an increase of addition amount of saponins, the amount of mycelium was increased up to l19% by the addition of 0.01% protopanaxatriol saponin (triol). Amount of aflatoxin was increased in proportion as the bright yellow color of chloroform extract of culture filtrate was intensified. There was no difference in sporulation by the addition of 0.02% saponins, however, the sporulation was gradually decreased as the addition concentration of saponins increased. Aflatoxin production was reduced to the level of 8% by the addition of crude saponin, but production of aflatoxin B1 and B2 were inhibited by 56% and 8% with the addition of 0.5% pure saponin. The production of aflatoxin B. was increased by the addition of 0.5% trios saponin, and by the addition of 0.02% biol saponin, aflatoxin G, production reached to the maximum and thereafter it was decreased.
The effects of anti-stress rose fruit (ASRF) extract drink (ASRF-0.1% and ASRF-0.5% concentrations) were tested for the anti-stress action. ICR male mice (20$\pm$2 g) were fed with basic experimental diets and given free access to water containing these ingredients for 18 days. Psychological stress/sociopsychological stress exposed by foot-shock for 1 hour for 3 days. Both ASRF-0.1 and ASRF-0.5 groups in the sociopsychological stress resulted in a significant decrease of 24.3% and 38.0% in plasma corticosterone (CS) secretion compared with psychological stress (control group). Noradrenaline (NA) secretion in the brain were significantly increased 35.9% in ASRF-0.5 group, but NA secretion in ASRF-0.1 group could not be obtained significant result compared with control group. MHPG-SO4 (3-Methoxy-4-hydroxy-phenylethy leneglycol sulfate) levels in the brain resulted in a marked decreases of 16.5% and 18.9% respectively in ASRF-0.1 and ASRF-0.5 groups. NA/MHPG-SO4 ratios in the brain of ASRF-0.1 and ASRF-0.5 groups resulted in a significantly increase of 16.5% and 67.0%, respectively, compared with control group. These results suggest that anti-stress rose fruit (ASRF) drink also can effectively ridded the sociopsychological stress.
Diffusivity of ions of radioactive species is an important factor for designing radwaste repositories. Clay minerals are used as a backfill material. In this study, diffusion of Co-60 ions through the bentonite having various densities has been studied, using a diffusion cell. The measured diffusivities of Co-60 ions decreased as the density of bentonite increased. The diffusivity of Co-60 ion decreased from $8.79{\times}10^{11}m^2/s$ to $6.82{\times}10-13m^2/s$ as the clay dry bulk density increased from 0.41 to 2.03g/cm3. The diffusivity of Co ion was larger than that of Sr ion at low density, but the diffusivity of Co ion decreased rapidly as the density of clay increased and became smaller than that of Cs ion at high density. This phenomenon is thought to be caused by the rapid decrease of the fraction of mobile cation since the chemical combination of Co ions with oxygen or oxide on clay surface and the entrance of Co ions into the crystal structure of clay increase as the clay density increases. This change should be considered especially in designing the clay back fill for low and intermediate radwaste disposal facilities.

Vertical electrokintic-flushing remediation equipment was developed for the remediation of a radioactive soil near nuclear facilities. An optimum reagent was selected to decontaminate the radioactive soil near nuclear facilities with the developed vertical electrokintic-flushing remediation equipment, and the optimum remediation conditions were established to obtain a higher remediation efficiency. Namely, acetic acid was selected as an optimum reagent due to its higher remediation efficiency. When the electrokinetic remediation and the electrokinetic-flushing remediation results were compared, the removal efficiency of 4.6% and the soil waste solution volume of 1.5 times were increased in the electrokinetic remediation. When the potential gradient within an electrokinetic soil cell was increased by two times (4.0 V/cm), the removal efficiencies of $Co^{2+}$ and $Cs^+$ were increased by about 4.3%($Co^{2+}$ : 98.9%, $Cs^+$ : 96.7%). Also, when the reagent concentration was increased from 0.01M to 0.05M, the removal efficiency of $Co^{2+}$ was increased but that of $Cs^+$ was decreased. Therefore, the optimum remediation conditions were that the acetic concentration was $0.01M{\sim}0.05M$, the potential gredient was 4 V/cm, the injection of reagent 2.4ml/g, and the remediation period was 20days.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of compost leachate and concentrated pig slurry on growth of pepper in substrate hyrdoponic culture. In process of composting, compost leachate was was through a saturated compost heap. Pig slurry was filtered by ultra filtration and concentrated by reverse osmosis process. The pig slurry was mixed with chemical nutrient solution and byproduct based on nitrogen content. Peppers were grown in the seven different hydroponic solutions; compost leachate (CL), concentrated pig slurry (CS), compost leachate + byproduct (CL+BP), concentrated pig slurry + byproduct (CS+BP), compost leachate 50% + nutrient solution 50% (CL+NS), concentrated pig slurry 50% + nutrient solution 50% (CS+NS) and chemical nutrient solution for pepper. The chemical nutrient solution was the standard solution of National Horticulture Research Station for the growth of pepper. The concentration of nutrient solution was adjusted $1.6{\sim}2.0mS/cm$ in EC. The compost leachate and concentrated pig slurry were low in phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), but rich in potassium (K). Growth characteristics as affected by the different nutrient solution were significantly different. Growth and fruit characteristics treated with CL 50+NS 50%CS and 50+NS 50% were similar with NS 100% control plot. The dry weight of stem and leaf were 107.4, 104.2g in plot of NS 100% and CS 50%+NS 50%, respectively. The fruit of pepper showed lowest in the plot treated with 100% concentrated pig slurry, and the growth of pepper severely decreased after application of 100% CS treatment. The yield of pepper was not significantly different between the plots treated with mixture of CS50 + NS50% and 100% nutrient solution treatment. Fruit yield of the compost leachate concentrated pig slurry plot were 59, 14% compared to control, repectively. In conclusion, the mixture solution of 50% of pig slurry and 50% of nutrient solution could be used as a nutrition solution of pepper in hydroponic culture.
The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of the natural coral(NC) and the hydroxyapatite/calcium sulfate hemihydrate(HA/CS) on an early stages of wound healing in the rat periodontal fenestration defects. In this experiment, twelve male rats(Mean : 520g in BW) aged 8 to 9 months were used. Experimental periodontal fenestration defects were surgically created with tapered fissure bur at the buccal surface of the left mandibular 1st, 2nd molars. The buccal aspects of molar roots were carefully denuded of their periodontal ligament through a bony window created in the left mandibles of rats under general anesthesia. Each experimental periodontal fenestration defect was grafted with natural coral and HA/CS, randomly. An area without bone graft was assigned for negative control group. At 10,35 days, rats were serially sacrificed via intracardiac perfusion with 2.5% glutaraldehyde and specimens were processed with Hematoxylin-Eosin stain for light microscopic evaluation. The results of this study were as follows : 1. The defect areas were filled with dense connective tissues at 10 days in control group. But in the test(NC, HA/CS)groups, the connective tissues around graft materials were formed more loosely and the response of inflammation by graft materials itself was not found. 2. The defect areas were filled with new osteoid tissues and new cementum was not formed on the cut root surface at 35 days in the control group. 3. New osteoid tissue formation was more prominent at 35 days in control than test groups. 4. The NC and HA/CS particles were encapsulated by loose connective tissues at 10 days and by dense connective tissues at 35 days, respectively. 5. In the test groups, resorption of graft particles was not found through the experimental time. From the above results, natural coral and hydroxyapatite/calcium sulfate hemihydrate may be biocompatible and osteoconductive and have a weak adverse reaction to the periodontal tissues.

Sorption properties of corn starch(CS) and Soy protein isolates(SPI) in plastic films packaging were investigates for binary system. The mixture were sealed in plastic films of low density polyethylene(LDPE), oriented polypropylene(OPP) and LDPE/OPP coated film and packaging effect on the changes of moisture sorption during storage at $40^{\circ}C$ were studied. The following results were obtained. The water vapor permeability of material films was $32.6g/m^2/24hrs(below\;g)$ for 0.02mm LDPE film, 14.01g for 0.04mm LDPE film, 7.30g for 0.02mm OPP film, 3.37g for 0.04mm OPP film and 4.869 for 0.02mm LDPE/0.02 mm OPP confine film at $40^{\cire}C$ 90%RH, therefore the OPP film was more effective than LDPE film on the resistance of relative humidity. And the OPP film packaging sealed mixture of food samples was also more elective then LDPE film, having same thickness for increase of water vapor permeability during storage at $40^{\cire}C$. A general increase in sorption rate was found more in SPI than CS in the packaged mixtures.

Four strains of fowl adenovirus (FAdV) were isolated from 4 flocks of broiler or layer chickens affected by hydropericardium syndrome in Korea. These FAdVs were classified as serotype 4 by restriction fragment length polymorphism patterns of hexon genes and whole genomes. The virus exhibited cytopathic effects consisting of rounding, ballooning and clustering in primary chicken embryo liver cell cultures. In transmission electron microscopy, virus particles in hexagonal shape aggregated exclusively in the nuclei of hepatocytes of the chickens as the typical appearances in adenovirus infections. Buoyant density of the virus in cesium chloride (CsCl) was 1.34 g/mL. The virus was stable to chloroform, ether, 50~70% ethanol, acidic condition at pH 3, 0.25% trypsin (1 : 250), heat at $50^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, but labile to 100% ethanol, heat at $52{\sim}60^{\circ}C$ for 30 min, 1 M $MgCl_2$ at $50^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, 1 : 2,000 formalin (37%). All of the physicochemical properties pertained to the characteristics of adenoviruses. Eight viral polypeptides were determined in CsCl-purified virus by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis.
The effects of anti-stress mind tonic (ASMT) drink (ASMT-0.1% and ASMT-0.5% concentration) were tested for the anti-stress action. ICR male mice (20$\pm$2 g) were fed with basic experimental diets free access to water containing these ingredients for 18 days. Psychological stress/sociopsychological stress were exposed by foot-shock for 1 hour for 3 days. Both ASMT-0.1 and ASMT-0.5 groups in the sociopsychological stress resulted in a significant decrease of 19.1% and 41.9% in plasma corticosterone (CS) secretion compared with psychological stress (control group). Noradrenaline (NA) secretions in the brain were significantly increased 23.4% and 35.9%, respectively, in ASMT-0.1 and ASMT-0.5 groups compared with control group. MHPG-SO4 (3-Methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylethyleneglycol sulfate) levels in the brain resulted in a marked decreases of 27.1% and 19.6%, respectively in ASMT-0.1 and ASMT-0.5 groups. NA/MHPG-SO4 ratios in the brain of ASMT-0.1 and ASMT-0.5 groups resulted in a significantly increase of about 70% compared with control group. These suggest that mind tonic anti-stress drink can effectively ridded the sociopsychological stress.
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effects of concentrated pig slurry using membrane filter on growth of tomato in nutriculture. Pig slurry was filtered by ultra filtration and concentrated by reverse osmosis process. Filtration of pig slurry was necessary to prevent the hose clogging in nutriculture. The concentrated pig slurry (CS) and nutrient solution (NS) were mixed by six different mixing ratios of 0:100, 20:80, 40:60, 60:40%, 80: 20 and 100%:0% based on nitrogen content. The chemical nutrient solution was the solution of National Horticulture Research Station for the growth of tomato. The concentration of nutrient solution was adjusted a range of $1.6{\sim}2.0mS/cm$ in EC. The plant height of tomato treated with CS 20+NS 80% was similar with NS 100% control plot. Plant height was highest in the plot of CS 20+NS 80%. The treatment of 100% concentrated pig slurry was lowest in the gowth characteristics of tomato. Number of cluster was very lower in 100% concentrated pig slurry compared with plot of chemical nutrient solution. In the beginning of growth stage, SPAD reading value was reduced in plot treated with CS 100%, but CS 20+NS 80% plot was higher compared to 100% concentrated pig slurry. SPAD value of tomato leaves was decreased as the amount of CS was increased. The SPAD value also in treatment of concentrated pig slurry was lower in the middle growth stage compared to control plot. The dry weight of stem and leaf were 107.4, 104.2g in plot of NS 100% and CS 20%+NS 80%, respectively. The fruit number and weight were decreased at high application plots of concentrated pig slurry, The fruit setting of tomato showed lowest in the plot treated with 100% concentrated pig slurry, and the growth of tomato severely decreased after application of 100% CS treatment. In conclusion, the growth characteristics such as plant height and fruit weight of tomato were not significantly different between the plots treated with mixture of 20% CS +80%NS and 100% nutrient solution treatment. In conclusion, the mixture solution of 20% of concentrated pig slurry and 80% of nutrient solution could be used as a nutrition solution of tomato nuticulture.
