  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of head position changes on vertical and horizontal magnification in dental panoramic radiographs. Materials and Methods: Five 4 mm metal balls were placed above alveolar crest of dry skull considering extraction socket and dental arch. Panoramic radiographs were taken by OP-100D (Instrumentarium Imaging Co., Tuusula, Finland) at proper and rotated head position along the sagittal and transverse axis at 3 - $20^{\circ}$ upwardly, downwardly, to the left and to the right rotation. Images were stored in DICOM files and were measured by ruler equipped within INFINITT PACS software. Results: The mean horizontal magnification was $1.22{\pm}0.01-1.44{\pm}0.01$ and mean vertical magnification was $1.29{\pm}0.00-1.35{\pm}0.02$ at standard head position. There was statistical significance of horizontal magnification between the anterior ($1.24{\pm}0.02-1.31{\pm}0.03$) and the posterior area ($1.40{\pm}0.03-1.33{\pm}0.02$) (P < 0.05). Vertical magnification resulted in less variation ($1.24{\pm}0.01-1.37{\pm}0.02$) than horizontal magnification ($0.88{\pm}0.03-3.73{\pm}0.16$) according to the rotation. There was statistical significant difference on horizontal magnification (P < 0.05). Conclusion: In rotated head position, the horizontal magnification should be considered because these can cause distortion on panoramic radiographs.

  • In this study, we designed a virtual gallery using VRML authoring tool. With this system, we expect to provide a realistic and interactive environment where students can appreciate artistic work in their learning processes. Our system is implemented with several methods such as panorama images and 3D object modules with Photo Vista, Object Modeler and Reality Studio. We currently investigate how this virtual gallery can affect students aesthetic aspects with the intended realistic appreciation In their art education processes. In the following section, we describes how we implemented our virtual gallery with vrml authoring tools.

  • In this study, a Virtual geological Field Trip(VFT) learning program using 3D panorama virtual reality techniques was developed to learn about the Gongju city 7 area located in Chungcheongnam-do, Korea. The developed $360^{\circ}$ 3D VFT program can show every face of observational points and interact as zoom-in, zoom-out and image rotation. For the educational effects of the materials, it is provided with a compass, a protractor, enlarged images, pop-up windows, etc.. The program was applied to the class of 35 gifted students in middle school to investigate the effectiveness of the program. The results showed that positive responses of the students were 90% or more. When geological field trip problems like cost, safety, distance occur in geological learning procedure of middle school science, this VFT program can become as a supplementary learning material and a solution.

  • Recently, at home and abroad cultural content industry has developed as the growing importance of history. Among them, the reconstruction contents area which combined with IT technology is attracting attention. Specially, using augmented reality technology, 3D visualization researches which restore contents of architectural heritage, cultural heritage sites, and artifacts have been performed in cultural content area. The existing cultural site restore contents are mostly made based on the images taken from indoor. In this paper, efficiently visualize the restore contents in indoor, but outdoors is limited. This theses presents the cultural heritage sites 3D model visualization system using augmented reality in outdoor. Proposed system augments 3D model to cultural heritage site in outdoor by using Smart Phone.

  • As the tools for constructing the cyber world such as virtual theme park on the web, QuickTime VR for 2D panorama Images and VRML for 3D modeling have been used for years. QuickTime VR had some weak points, which were the distortion of images and the difficulties of operating objects vividly and navigating effectively. VRML, though it was able to support various 3D elements to users, was not able to be approached easily by users because of the difficulties for providing viewer. Therefore, in this thesis, we will make it easy for users to approach the contents on the web, offering the concept of X3D components, and profiles and will construct the highly marketable 3D cyber world.

  • Objective of this study is to develop a 3D car navigation system that shows the driving direction to a destination through real-time 3-D panoramic views of the route. For the purpose, a new searching process was established to find the optimal driving direction based on the driver's current location and the real-time traffic situation and the TIP (tour into the picture) method was extended to implement a wide virtual environment. A virtual environment was built up by applying the extended TIP method to the panoramic images taken at a constant distance from a real road, and then, displayed 3-D navigation as clear as the real images. The car navigation system developed in this study provides the optimal driving direction and real-time traffic situation using 2-D navigation module and 3D navigation module.

  • This paper presents an efficient image stitching method using preprocessing in order to generate a super resolution image. Two-dimensional (2D) scanners are consistently used in various areas but they have limitations such as paper sizes and materials. To overcome these problem with low-cost, an efficient imaging stitching method is proposed for producing a super resolution panorama image. To scan a very large sized paper using mobile phones, a simple portable cradle which fixes height is employed producing an input image set. To improve matching performance, a preprocessing method is introduced before searching correspondences. Then alpha blending is applied to an input image set to produce a super resolution panorama image. The proposed method is faster and easier than the existing method which is employed by Open CV. Experiment results show that the proposed method is three times faster and performs better than the existing method.
