  • In this paper, a new simulator of the biped robot for planning walking patterns was showed. And this simulator(MHBiped) is able to not only visualize the plan of patterns but also verify whether a biped robot design is suitable. In addition, MHBipd can modify various kinds of walking parameters and the trajectory of biped robot. Therefore, a new biped robot can be designed easily by the this simulator before you apply to a robot. As a result, a well-balanced parameters of walking patterns watching the movement of CG and ZMP can be obtained. Walking patterns should be changed according to both the existence of obstacles and conditions of ground and it can be described by the trajectory of hip and ankles. All those trajectorys can be also obtained by the cubic spline functions and the way of modeling walking patterns. The results of simulator, the movement function of CG and ZMP, the cubic spline functions and modeling of biped robot were introduced in this paper. And the effectiveness of this simulator was confirmed by the simulations.

  • In this paper, kinematic based walking pattern generation of biped walking robot is reviewed. Biped walking robot should be consisted of 6 Degree of Freedom(DOF) for each leg to walk properly in 3 dimensional circumstance. In this paper, simple structure of biped robot is depicted for walking pattern firstly. After fixing path of ankle of the robot, angle joints are coming from kinematic equatioins. Coordination of joints of a robot was set for dynamic analysis also. So walking pattern of a robot will be designed using dynamic equations of coordination of joint angles. Finally, setting of ankle of robot and pattern generation are key procedures of the robot walking.

  • Human-like biped robot is a representative multi-links manipulator and undoubted redundancy system. However many researchers separate biped robot into each limb and analyze the members individually for the convenience analysis. This approach is not desirable for natural trajectory generation and energy optimization. This paper proposes the analysis method considering both legs together and the weighted pseudoinverse optimizing energy consumption.

  • In this paper, we propose new parallel mechanism of a 3 dimensional biped robot whose each leg is composed of two 3-dof parallel platforms linked serially. This proposed parallel mechanism is able to move freely in the man-made environment and is applied to various fields, such as medical, welfare, and so on. And a total weight of each leg is expected to be lighter than serial linked leg. One side leg consists of a 3-dof orientation platform and 3-dof asymmetric parallel platform. The former consists of three active linear actuators and seven passive joints, and the latter of two active linear actuators, one active rotational actuator and eight passive joints. Thus, there are two kinds of parallel platforms each chain's elements and active joint's positions are different for the biped robot to move freely like a serial link without the kinematics constraints. The effectiveness and the performance of the proposed parallel mechanism and locomotion trajectory are shown in computer simulations with a 12-DOF parallel biped robot.

  • This paper introduces a new entertainment robot called ELIRO-II(Eating Lizard RObot version 2)which is a bio-mimetic quadruped walking robot with autonomous eating function. We focus on the realization of the behavior of an animal, i.e., wandering around to find food and eating food. The ELIRO-II is modeled after a lizard, which has four legs, 2-DOF waist-joint, an eye part, a mouth part and a stomach part. The effectiveness of the developed robot is shown through real experiments.

  • This paper presents about design efforts of a human-sized quadruped robot leg for high energy efficiency, and verifications. One of the representative index of the energy efficiency is the Cost of Transport (COT), but increased in the energy or work done is not calculated in COT. In this reason, the input to the output energy efficiency should be also considered as a very important term. By designing the robot with customized motor housing, small rotational inertia, and low gear ratio to reduce friction, high energy efficiency was achieved. Squatting motion of one leg was performed and simulation results were compared to the experimental results for validation. The developed 50 kg robot can lift the weight up to 200 kg, and during squatting, it showed high energy efficiency. The robot showed 71% input to output energy efficiency in positive work. Peak current during squatting only appears to be 0.3 A.

  • A small and lightweight crawling robots have been actively studied thanks to their outstanding mobility and maneuverability. Those robots can navigate into more confined spaces that larger robots are unable to reach or enter such as debris and caves. In this paper, we propose a milli-scale hexapedal robot based on planar linkage design. To make this possible, two necessary conditions for successful crawling are satisfied: thrust force from the ground and aerial phase while running. These conditions are achieved through a newly developed leg design. The robot has a pair of legs and each leg has three feet. Those feet alternatively moves based on 1DOF planar linkage. This linkage is installed at each side of the robot and finally the robot shows the alternating gait and aerial phase during running. As a result, the robot runs with the crawling speed of 0.9 m/s.
