The K-Ar ages of biotites, obtained from thirteen pelitic schists in the Jeungpyeong-Deokpyeong area, central Ogcheon metamorphic belt, range from 89 Ma to 213 Ma except for one specimen. These K-Ar ages systematically decrease as the distance between the analyzed specimen and the Jurassic or Creataceous granite decreases. The K-Ar ages of b~otites adjacent to the Jurassic and Cretaceous granites are 166 Ma and 89 Ma, respectively. Thus, the biotite ages are interpreted to result from the partial or complete resetting by thermal activities in association with the intrusion of Mesozoic granites, following the regional-thermal metamorphism at Late Triassic to Early Jurassic times.
We investigated the lithology and petrography of granites and metasedimentary rocks in Deokjeok Island at the western margin of the Gyeonggi massif. The major lithology comprises the biotite granite that intrudes all other types of rocks. A minor amount of mylonitized porphyritic granite crops out along the southeastern coast. Metasedimentary rocks in the north are further divided into: (1) sheared quartzite-schist to the northeast; and (2) relatively less-deformed, low-grade metasedimentary rocks to the northwest. The former contains quartz grains showing undulatory extinction and subgrain aggregates as well as minor amount of primary chlorite and biotite in the muscovite-rich matrix. Metamorphic condition belongs to the greenschist facies or the biotite zone. On the other hand, the latter unit consists of meta-conglomerate, meta-sandstone, meta-pelite, and black slate. Regardless of the lithology, the intensity of deformation apparently increases eastward to develop the flow banding of quartz in the shear zone.

A test borehole was drilled in the Cheongwon area to investigate the relationship between geochemical environment and the natural occurrence of radioactive materials (uranium and Rn-222) in borehole groundwater. The borehole encountered mainly biotite schist and biotite granite, with minor porphyritic granite and basic dykes. Six groundwater samples were collected at different depths in the borehole using the double-packed system. The groundwater pH ranges from 5.66 to 8.34, and the chemical type of the groundwater is Ca-$HCO_3$. The contents of uranium and Rn-222 in the groundwater are 0.03-683 ppb and 1,290-7,600 pCi/L, respectively. The contents of uranium and thorium in the rocks within the borehole are 0.51-23.4 ppm and 0.89-62.6 ppm, respectively. Microscope observations of the rock core and analyses by electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA) show that most of the radioactive elements occur in the biotite schist, within accessory minerals such as monazite and limenite in biotite, and in feldspar and quartz. The high uranium content of groundwater at depths of -50 to -70 m is due to groundwater chemistry (weakly alkaline pH, an oxidizing environment, and high concentrations of bicarbonate). The origin of Rn-222 could be determined by analyzing noble gas isotopes (e.g., $^3He/^4He$ and $^4He/^{20}Ne$).

The metamorphic rocks of Yongin-Anseong area in Gyeonggi massif are composed of high-grade gneisses and schists which are considered as Precambrian basement, and Jurassic granite which intruded the metamorphic rocks. In this paper, we discuss the geochemical characteristics of metamorphic rocks and granites in this area based on REE and Nd isotope geochemistry. And we also discuss the petrogenetic relationship between metamorphic rocks and granites in this area. Most of Nd model ages (T$\_$DM/$\^$Nd/) from the metamorphic rocks range ca. 2.6Ga~2.9Ga which are correspond to the main crustal formation stage in Gyeonggi massif by Lee et. al. (2003). And Nd model ages show that the source material of quartzofeldspathic gneiss is slightly older than that of biotite banded gneiss. In chondrite-normalized rare earth element pattern, the range of (La/Yb)$\_$N/ value from biotite banded gneiss is 37~136, which shows sharp gradient and suggests that biotite banded gneiss was originated from a strongly fractionated source material. However, that of amphibolite is 4.65~6.64, which shows nearly flattened pattern. Particularly, the chondrite normalized REE patterns from the high-grade metamorphic rocks show the REE geochemisoy of original source material before metamorphism. In addition, the values of (La/Yb)$\_$N/ and Nd model ages of granite are 32~40 and 1.69Ga~2.08Ga, respectively, which suggest that the source material of granite is different from that of Precambrian basement such as biotite banded gneiss and quartzofeldspthic gneiss in the area.

Geology of the Dogdo Quadrangle consissed of metamorphosed sediments and granite. By microscopic observation the writer divided the former rocks into the feldspar quartz schist, biotite gneiss and sericite schist. The Seoul granite, which has intruded in the feldspar quartz schist, is distributed in the west half of the age Dogdo quadrangle. The Seoul granite is believed to have intruded in jurassic period, but the age of the metamorphic rocks is Pre-jurassic, though the schist and gneiss have been correlated to the Yeoncheon System of Precambrian. Soil samples were sampled from the locations where no contamination of other rockes is permitted. Results of mechanical analysis, PH and soil structure of the samples are shown, Soils from metamorphic rocks have been subjected to more weathering than granite soil though some of them have higher sorting coeffcient.
For the characteristics of rock material and standardization, flagstones of the trifurcated path in Jongmyo Royal Shrine, registered as World Cultural Heritage, were studied on the basis of petrographic, petrochemical and magnetic properties. The flagstones are composed mainly of pale gray fine to medium grained hornblende biotite granite, pale gray fine to medium grained biotite granite, pale pink medium to coarse grained biotite granite, pink medium to coarse grained biotite granite and minor pegmatite and schist. Flagstone represents the average size of $65cm{\times}4cm$ (standard deviation $12cm{\times}7cm$) and suitable (34.7%), common (41.4%) and unsuitable (23%) in roughness. It is interpreted that pale pink and pink granite, pegmatite, schist and other flagstones with unsuitable state are not original rock materials and were exchanged during restoration, in the past. The number of these non-original rock materials is about 560 flagstones. We suggests that the standard flagstone of the trifurcated path is pale gray fine to medium grained biotite granite (${\pm}$hornblende in trace), 70wt.% in $SiO_2$, content, and ${\pm}0.1{\times}10^{-3}\;SI$ in magnetic susceptibility.
This study examines the distribution of basement rocks in Gyochon-ri, Muan-eup, Muan-gun, Jeonnam where ground subsidence occurred in June 2005, and traces corrosion of limestone. Mica schist and rhyolite are distributed in the surface of the study area, but thick limestone layer with large and small caverns are distributed underground. A horizon of limestone with maximum width of 300 m and 4 km of length was found along the detour which is in the north of pound subsidence. Such identification of limestone presence would be very useful to predict potential ground subsidence. Limestone in this area was disturbed by fold and fault due to severe shearing deformation. Small caverns were frequently found in anticline part of folds formed in limestone layer. Schists with different thicknesses were intercalated in the limestone with shearing deformation and consist of sheet silicate minerals (chlorite and mica) and quartz. In sections of weathered specimen, it is shown that biotite of schist part was altered into chlorite and corrosion of calcite around the schist followed. This suggest that ground water permeated between intercalated sheet silicate minerals and corrosion of limestone began. And small caverns were generated where active corrosion occurred. This study suggests that because of many reasons (for instance, reclamation of the Bulmu reservior and excess pumping), cavern water level was lowered and cave sediments were removed, and it caused ground subsidence to occur.
