Jim Libby(2000)는 임의의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛 봉지에서 꺼낸 것을 다시 집어넣지 않고 3개의 쵸코렛을 꺼낼 때 같은 색이 나올 확률을 계산하는 방법의 논문을 썼다. Libby는 그의 논문에서 갈색, 노랑, 빨강, 주황, 초록, 파랑의 6개 색의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛들이 똑같은 비율로 분포되었다고 가정하였다. 그러나 실제로 M&M 쵸코렛의 여섯 가지 색깔의 확률분포는 똑같은 비율이 아니다. M&M회사는 홈페이지(http://www.m-ms.com/cai/mms/faq.html)를 통해 실제적인 6개 색의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛들의 분포는 갈색이 30%, 노랑과 빨간색이 각각 20% 주황, 초록과 파랑은 각각 10%의 분포라고 밝히고 있다. 이 논문에서 우리는 Libby가 생각하였던 문제를 실제적인 6개 색의 M&M 밀크 쵸코렛들의 확률 분표에 의거하여 다시 생각해보며, 또한 3개의 쵸코렛대신 n개의 쵸코렛을 꺼낸다고 가정하여 더욱 일반적인 결론을 유도한다. 또한 유도한 이 정확한 확률 공식과 근사 공식을 활동을 통해 점검하고 학생들이 주도적으로 지금까지 배워온 이론들을 점검할 수 있게 하였다. 활동을 시작하기 전에 정확한 확률 공식과 근사 공식과의 관계를 설명하고 기본적인 확률과 통계의 개념을 다시 정립할 수 있도록 하였다. Piaget가 '지식이란 학습자에 의해 능동적으로 구성되는 것이지 환경으로부터 수동적으로 받아들이는 것은 아니다'라고 했듯이, 활동을 통한 학습은 학생들을 능동적으로 만들기 때문에 학생들이 지식을 구성해 갈 수 있다. 활동을 간단히 소개하면 다음과 같다. 활동I에서는 초코렛을 세어서 근사 확률을 추정하는 방법이 소개된다. 어떻게 매개변수가 두 공식에 관련이 되는지를 측정하고 두 공식을 사용하여 정확한 확률과 근사 확률을 계산하여 비교해본다. 각 조원들과 이 세 과정에서 무엇을 배웠나 토론하고 다른 조들과 배운 것을 나눈다. 활동II는 두 과정으로 나누어진다. 첫 번 과정은 각 그룹의 한 학생이 주어진 쵸코렛 봉지에서 3개의 쵸코렛을 꺼낸다. 다른 학생은 표 3에 나온 결과를 기록한다. 계속하여 20번씩 한다. 다시 학생을 바꾸어 20번 계속한다. 같은 색깔의 쵸코렛이 나온 확률은 계산하기 위한 간단한 실험이고 두 번째 과정은 각 조가 웹사이트나 선생님으로부터 제공받은 프로그램을 다운로드 받아 하는 시뮬레이션이다. 이 실험 후에 학생들이 이 두 활동을 통해 무엇을 배웠는지 토론해보고 또 두 활동을 비교해 볼 수 있다. 마지막으로 M&M 쵸코렛을 먹는 것으로 활동을 마칠 수 있을 것이다. 활동 II에 나오는 두 시뮬레이션은 학생들이 수학 이론의 힘을 깨달을 뿐 아니라 수학 교실에서 큰 재미를 느끼게 될 것이다. 이 논문에서 그래픽 계산기로 할 수 있는 프로그램을 소개하였다.

제 66차 IFLA(The International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) 총회가 2000년 8월 13일부터 8월 18일 까지 이스라엘의 예루살렘에서 개최되었다. IFLA는 1927년 창설된 비정부 기구로서 그 주요 목적은 정보관리, 유통, 정보서비스 및 사서의 교육을 포함한 도서관 활동과 문헌정보학 전반에 걸친 국제적인 상호 이해 증진과 협력, 토론, 연구 및 개발을 증진시키고 도서관인들의 국제적 관심사를 논하는 토론의 장을 제공하며, 전 세계에 문헌정보분야 및 사서들의 활동 그리고 현주소를 하나된 목소리로 대변하고 알리는 단일화된 창구역할을 담당하는 우리분야의 세계적인 대표단체이다. 현재 143개국의 1622개 도서관 및 관련단체들이 가입되어있으며 우리나라에서는 우리협회가 1955년 가입하였다. 이번 대회는 'Information for Cooperation: Creating the Global Library of the Future'라는 주제로 전 세계에서 90개국 1800여명의 도서관인들이 참가하여 성황을 이루었다. 우리나라에서는 한국도서관협회 이두영 회장을 비롯한 총 36명이 참가하여 세계 각 국의 도서관인을 만나고, 배우는 좋은 기회를 가졌다. 뜻밖의 참관기 의뢰를 받고 망설였으나, 여행 중에는 수시로 간단히 기록해 두는 습관에 의해 메모해 두었던 것과 출장계획이 미리 잡혀있어 준비해온 과정 그리고 나의 여행체험을 바탕으로 하여 기행문 형식으로 적어 봄으로 미흡하나마 독자들로 하여금 본 대화와 여행의 경험을 함께 나눌 수 있게 되기를 바라는 마음이다.

There are various ways to monitor active volcanoes, such as the method of observing the activity of a volcano with the naked eye, the method of referring to the past eruptive history based on the historic records and the method of monitoring volcanoes by using observation equipment. The most basic method from the observation equipment-using methods to monitor volcanoes is seismic monitoring. In addition to this, the ways to monitor volcanoes are as follows: resonance observation which may be effective to remove artificial noises from the seismic activities that are recorded in the seismograph, ground deformation by using precision leveling, electronic distance measurement, tiltmeter, GPS, and InSAR observation method, volcanic gas monitoring, hydrologic and meteorological monitoring, and other geophysical monitoring methods. These monitoring methods can make volcanic activities effectively monitored, determine the behavior of magmas in magma chambers and help predict the future volcanic eruptions more accurately and early warning, thus, minimize and mitigate the damage of volcanic hazards.

2006년 기준으로 1천8백만 수수의 육용오리가 사육되고 있는 영국에서는 오리 사육시 복지적인 측면에서의 생산 시스템에 대하여 여러 의견이 나오고 있다. 자연에서 물과 오리의 상관관계에도 불구하고, 오리가 몸을 담그거나 헤엄칠 수 있는 등 활동에 필요한 물을 제공해야한다는 어떠한 법적 규제도 마련되어 있지 않다. 어떤 경우에는 오리들이 머리를 물에 담글 수 있게 트러프(홈통형 물통)을 제공하기도 하지만 어떤 경우에는 니플 급수기를 통해서만 물에 접근할 수 있기도 하다. 유럽평의회는 오리들이 머리를 담그고 깃털을 적실 수 있는 형태로 물을 제공할 것을 권장한다. 우리는 이번 연구에서 오리의 복지가 자연 및 물의 접근 허용 점위와 관련이 있다는 것을 밝히고자 오리의 몸과 깃털 상태를 기록하는 한편, 물 제공에 따른 복지 수준을 평가하기 위해 3자기 행동 평가를 하였다. 오리들은 욕조(작은 연못), 트러프, 샤워시설, 니플급수기, 5주령까지 니플 급수기만 제공하고 이후 욕조를 이용하는 등의 5가지 방법으로 물에 접근할 수 있도록 하였고, 이는 1)한 시설에서 오리가 보내는 시간, 2)욕조가 주어졌을 때 오리들의 보상행동, 3) 오리들이 가장 선호하는 시설을 기록하여 오리의 행동을 평가하였다. 이를 통해 오리들이 머리를 담그고 깃털을 정리할 수 있는 물을 제공하지 않으면 오리들이 코나 깃털을 깨끗이 유지할 수 없다는 결론을 얻을 수 있었다. 중요한 것은 욕조, 트러프, 샤워기를 통해 물을 제공해 주었을 때 물에서 목욕(bathing)을 하며 보낸 시간은 모두 동일하였다는 사실이다. 그러나 니플 급수기에서 목욕행동(bathing movement)을 한 시간은 아주 짧았으며, 니플 급수기 만으로 사육되었던 오리군의 욕조시설을 제공하였을 때는 '보상 반등행동'을 보였다. 트러프나 샤워시설이 제공되었던 그룹에서는 보상행동을 보이지 않아 이러한 시설들이 욕조와 동일한 작용을 하는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또, 오리들에게 선택권이 주어졌을 때 오리들은 욕조에서 헤엄을 치고, 샤워시설에서 물을 마시고 장난치는 것을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 다른 시설들이 제공되었을 때 오리들은 니플 급수기에서 거의 시간을 보내지 않았다. 이번 연구를 통하여 육용 오리의 사육 환경의 복지 개선을 위해 트러프나 샤워 시설로 실제 욕조(작은 연못) 만큼 긍정적인 효과를 얻음을 확인 할 수 있었다.

This study aims to analyze the system of official documents enacted during the modern reform period and the official documents produced in the provincial government office, scrutinizing the reality of management of the official documents that were conducted in the provincial government office at that time and organizing the characteristics. For this, I progressed this study targeting Changwon superintendent office that functioned as the modern government office among the provincial government office that existed during the modern reform period, and whose official documents produced in the government office remained relatively intact. At first, I summarized the history of Changwon area where Changwon superintendent office was installed. I investigated the geographical characteristics and the historical background in which Masanpo port of Changwon was opened in the past history and the superintendent office was installed. Following this, I categorized the function of Changwon superintendent office from the legal perspective, and reviewed the major contents of the official documents produced in the business activity and the historical context. Finally, I compared and analyzed the system of the official documents enacted at that time and their formats, organizing the official documents produced in the provincial government office during the modern reform period and the characteristics of the system of the official documents about the provincial government office.

This paper uses the diary entitled Kieo, which was kept by Ryu Hyeong-eop for 38 years, to analyze the active space of small-scale Yangban landlords. Ryu lived during the period spanning from the end of the Taehan Empire through the colonial era. The researcher classified the contents of Kieo into different sections which were divided according to different stages of the writer's life, his objectives, destinations, and periods, and based on the writer's life-cycle, strived to recreate his spatial activities. As a result, researcher was able to ascertain that Ryu's spatial activities gradually increased, and that his active space also continuously expanded. Ryu's active space during his youth was narrow and centered around certain specific places. However, this active space gradually increased as time went by. It was during the middle stages of his life that the volume of his spatial activities was the heaviest. In addition, the objectives of his outings also became more diversified over time. This change was originated in the larger changes in his roles within the family and community, as well as by the changes in the periodic situation. Moreover, the regional sphere of Ryu's outings, including his day and over nights trips, allowed the researcher to form a better understanding of the daily living area of the Yangban.

The purpose of this study is to establish evaluation model that can explain marginal effects of baseball players of Korean Baseball Organization (KBO) on their team winnings in terms of productivity. We proposed econometric model with using variables that are provided from official homepage of KBO to overcome the complexity of mainly used productivity index: wins above replacement (WAR). Also, compare to the previous studies such as Scully(1974) or Krautmann(1999) that using limited indices of baseball stats, this study included 61 indices that are provided from official homepage of KBO. We estimated regression based WAR(RBWAR) by conducting panel regression with each team's statistics data of 2002 to 2014. As a results, RBWAR shows 0.869 correlation coefficient for batters and 0.882 for pitchers with WAR in 2014 that can be concluded that two indices shows similar results. From the results of estimation, we analyze the relationship between productivity and actual contract of free agent players in 2015 and it showed that teams have contracted reasonably.

This study suggested a digital curation framework for supporting the digital policy of institutes that collect memory. As such, it conducted a literature review and an analysis of digital curation models, as well as a focus-group interview of historians and graduate students majoring in historical studies. In this study, digital curation framework refers to an abstract model for supporting policy development and the planning for a high-level view of the archival information service. This implications of this framework are as follows: (1) to emphasize the data life cycle and connection between stages and actions; (2) to make an infra-schema for understanding institutes that create, arrange, or store specific data as the same history contents have to be provided by different institutes and as there are differences in the data's value; (3) to check the present conditions of information services and their systems; (4) to consider the practical applications of contents that have been collected and stored; and (5) to converge all data in one system through the framework and activate diverse works in the context of the framework.

This paper presents a design and implementation example of intelligent society member management system that is constructed to induce various research activity. Based on members data and society activity record, the system executed data mining. In the process of data mining useful society activity rules was produced and in result members could effectively interact with the system. Decision Tree Algorithm was used in the process, which is one of the methods of data mining. We presemts a plan for personalization website to provide user oriented administration policy and dynamic interface by using analyzed information of society activity rules produced.

The first Protestant medical missionary, Horace Allen, came to Korea in 1884 and built the first western-style hospital, Jaejungwon. John Heron, Oliver Avison and other foreign medical doctors soon followed. They established hospitals and medical schools, and, by treating patients and educating native doctors, they disseminated and developed modern medicine in Korea. At the same time, they wrote letters and reports to their sponsoring agencies, as well as family and friends, thereby leaving a vast body of literature that is scattered all over the world. Since the end of the 19th century, the records left by foreign medical missionaries have been valuable resources for the study of Korean history. While all types of records, such as diaries, memoirs, reports and travel logs, are available, these tend to be exaggerated or unverifiable because they are unilateral records. In contrast, letters can be verified because they are bilateral records between the recipient and the sender, and cannot be modified or altered according to changes in circumstances. Despite the academic value of these materials, however, there have been insufficient efforts to discover or identify these primary data sources, or to systematically organize them for scholars. This paper identified 49 archival collections from 29 institutions in North America. After analyzing their academic value, the paper will explore digital humanities options in utilizing the letters for future scholarship.
