This study compared and analyzed middle and high school's homebase and media space which are installed along with the introduction of subject classroom system operation method, with regard to the position of arrangement, the type of arrangement, and the change of area, etc. which were changed and applied per the phase of project. For this, design competitions were implemented since 2006 targeting the cases which participated in design directly-indirectly in the researcher's architectural firm, present construction documents among the selected BTL(Build-Transfer-Lease) were completed, and the examples of 10 schools(design competitions 2 schools, BTL selected plans 8 schools) were analyzed, which were operating variation type.

This study was carried out to observe awareness of students using homebase on variation type, about a thousand students in four middle and high schools participated in questionnaire. By the analysis of questionnaire, degree of awareness regarded homebase as a base was relatively high in respondents of the schools having easy accessibility of the homebase, and thus, proportions of assigned space for homeroom, using frequency of homebase and time to stay were also high in the group showing high awareness about homebase. Especially, it is noticeable use of homebase was frequent in the schools having subdivided space in itself. This result suggested that the function of homebase as a base of the students can be very important factor to plan schools of variation type.

This study is carried out to understand spacial characteristics, actual condition and behavior of use about homebase managed in variation type. Observation about moving line of students and questionnaire were tried to satisfy this purpose. As a result, classroom used as variation type for long time stay and homebase outside the classroom for short time stay were paralled managed in most schools. Density of school furniture in homebase of observed schools was about 36-37%, occupying area of each student was about $0.3-0.6m^2$. It was relatively low with the results of 45-54% and $0.94-1.15m^2$ observed in Japan schools, respectively. By the analysis about behavior of use through cross section of observation, the difference of staying time and personnel exchange between the students was higher at the school having homebase composed with various corners more than the school used it only as a locker room.

After the introduction of the 7th revision of curriculum, educational facilities have been requested to change to face new curriculums and have been planned. But, it is actual condition that researches of curriculum and facilities seem to be insufficient. This research will re-establish in an angle of space-syntax based on existed research for home-base area of variation type in high school according to the 7th curriculum. And the each specific character of home-base area representing each type and strong / weak points of area structure of each home-base will be analyzed. And analysis result with the model of variation type in high school visit the on-the-spot inspection result which leads and comparison and with his interview back it leads and currently there is the objective to the evaluation the variation type in high school home-base which is planned regarding the suitable in real use. Each case to the school I visited the scene, not all high schools applied the 7th curriculum courses. Therefore, it is also home-base space capabilities were not being properly utilize. According to 7th curriculum, one of Hall-type home-base and Room-type home-base can be suitable when integration is higher. However, the way the current operational training, it is the best that Distributed-type home-base needs to be included in each curriculum block.

Since the introduction of the Departmentalized Classroom System in 2009, schools that operate the system experienced many changes in terms of school management, educational courses, and school environment. In particular, class-based classrooms changed into departmentalized classrooms and staff rooms became teachers' support centers and research rooms to create an environment that is apt for the management of departmentalized classrooms. Students have also come to move from departmentalized classrooms to departmentalized classrooms in which homebases were prepared as a space for students to rest and enjoy a stable school life. As such, homebases as a space for students to enjoy school life are indispensable and are becoming more important for the management of the Departmentalized Classroom System. Thus, it is necessary to investigate in detail the state of the establishment of homebases in schools that operate the system. In line with this, this paper sampled 59 schools that have managed the system as an advanced system for over 2 years and conducted school visits and held interviews to investigate and analyze the placement, function, and scale of homebases as well as to provide basic material on homebases.

본 연구는 국내 중학교 건축 계획 시 참조점을 구하기 위해 관련 연구가 부족했던 일본의 중학교 건축을 대상으로 그 계획특성을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 1990년대 이후 준공된 14개 학교들을 선별해 이들을 대상으로 교육 및 생활공간, 기타 주요 공간 등의 영역별 계획특성을 분석하였다. 분석대상 학교들의 계획특성을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 1) 분석대상 학교들은 학교 운영방식에 따라 교과교실형 학교와 특별교실형 학교로 크게 구분할 수 있는데 이에 따라 가장 기본적인 공간이 되는 교육 및 생활공간의 계획특성에서 차이가 나타난다. 2) 교과교실형 학교는 교과교실, 홈베이스, 미디어 스페이스, 교사공간 등의 요소로 교육 및 생활공간이 구성되며 홈베이스와 교과교실과의 인접여부에 따라 교실 부속형과 독립형의 두 가지 유형으로 크게 구분된다. 3) 특별교실형 학교는 학급교실과 다목적 공간으로 교육 및 생활공간이 구성되는데, 다목적 공간과 학급교실이 직접 연결되어 있는 유형과 분리되어 있는 두 가지 유형으로 구분된다. 4) 특별교실은 지역개방과 과목별 특성을 강조할 수 있는 계획특성이 나타나며 부속 공간들의 연계로 공간의 분화특성이 나타난다. 5) 도서실은 개별실이 아닌 컴퓨터실, 시청각실, 다목적 홀 등과 연계된 복합구성으로 계획되며 벽으로 구획하지 않고 개방적으로 구성하는 경향이 강하다. 6) 체육시설로는 옥내 체육관이 기본적으로 설치되며 이와 함께 무도장, 옥외 수영장 등의 설치 빈도가 높다. 이들은 체육수업뿐만 아니라 방과 후 활동을 지원하기 위해 설치된 측면도 크다. 7) 테라스, 발코니, 외부계단 등의 적극적인 계획을 통해 외부공간을 입체적으로 확보하고 있으며 이들이 다양한 기능을 가지도록 계획하고 있다.

In this study, moving awareness of students having different physical conditions in homebase and attitudes of students to spacial use in user's aspect were analyzed. As shown in the results, the dissatisfaction degree of the second grade using homebase type was higher than the first and the third grades using exclusive space for a class, homeroom type. The necessity of exclusive space for a class was highly shown in the second grade students. Students of the first and the third grades showed similar pattern in using frequency of homeroom. The results showed that behavior pattern of students was different with their physical conditions. Especially, factors showing obvious differences between the two groups were possession awareness of their belongings, tendency to route choice of high frequency, stay awareness of main stay in time to rest and point of time using restroom. These results will be useful to design various models in variation type of schools.

Ministry of Education, Science And Technology, from 2009 to 2014, try to establish the setting of Department System in the Middle Schools and High Schools. They selected 45 Schools in 2009 and 61 Schools in 2010 for the Advanced Department System. I studied 2 High schools in 2009 and 3 High schools in 2010 of them, which located in GyeongGi-Do. I studied the Location of Department Classrooms, Teachers' Labs, Homebases and Resting Spaces of them. The conclusions are follows. 1) Most of them take Horizontal Zoning System in the Department Classrooms. 2) The Number of Teachers' Labs were increased in most of floors. On the other hand, most of Labs' Area were decreased. Every department Classroom Zone has one Teachers' Lab. 3) Every schools took much more spaces of Homebases and Resting Spaces than before. And various Resting Spaces using Corridors and Outdoors are prepared for students, those who moves every changing class time by the Department System.

A main contents of this is to abtain the result of investigation and analysis of facilities & using space of Variation Type's middle school in Japan. we choose the sample of Japan Middle school managing variation type. Because the Japan's exiting educational system is very similar with Korea's existing educational system. We have planning about investigation and analysis of facilitie's present condition & using space of middle school in Japan. And we have also planning to have a hearing and interview investigation to teachers and students. A aim of this study is to abtain a guide of variation type space-planning in Middle school. For the aim, it is necessary to understand Japan's Middle school facilities condition and compare with Korea and Japan. A main content of study is as follow. o A collection of data and thesis of Japan's variation type middle school. o A check of curriculum of Japan's middle school. o A current of Japan's variation type middle mchool. history of construction circumstances, using situation of variation type, merit and demerit.

The latest educational curriculum in Korea started in 1997, and the 'Departmentalized Classroom System', which is a distinguishing modern concept compared with conventional pedagogy, has already been used in several high schools since 2009 and will be expanded to all middle school and high schools by 2014. However, most Korean schools are not yet physically ready to implement the new system. Moreover, despite many trials during the last three years, the characteristic and architectural function of a place called 'Home-base' is still vague and has caused many controversial arguments. In fact, a large number of home-base designs failed to accomplish their original task and there are counter evidences that shows reality was quite different over architect's personal and subjective radical plan. Therefore, this study seeks to introduce and objective scientific method based on an mathematical model of an optimized algorithm for planning a home-base area in a school design. The algorithm developed in this study is designed to determine the most efficient location for a home-base area to minimize the distance students typically need to walk.
