Problem Development for PBL-based English Science Classes in Elementary Schools (초등학교에서 PBL 기반 영어과학수업을 위한 문제 개발 연구)

  • Problem development is important to Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and is key to the creativity and problem-solving skills of successful learners. The purpose of this study is to have PBL classes that effectively materialize problem development stages, and to develop learning using problems suitable for elementary school English Science classes. In this study, the steps for developing the problems are identifying educational content, identifying learners' characteristics, discovering problems, setting up roles and situations, and writing problems. Based on these steps, five PBL problems were developed by selecting a subject suitable for the PBL method of an English Science class, which is one of the English curriculums in elementary schools. Creative thinking, problem-solving skills, presentation skills, confidence, self-directed learning, cooperation, and communication skills are required in the rapidly changing society of the 21st century, rather than teacher-centered instruction, acquiring knowledge for correct answers only, and uniform assessments, which still take place in many English education settings. Therefore, developing problems suitable for PBL learning should be continuously studied.

Factors Influencing Sense of Community among Nursing Students in the Online Learning Environment during COVID-19 (코로나 19(COVID-19)로 인한 온라인 학습환경에서 간호대학생의 공동체 의식에 미치는 영향 요인)

  • This study is a descriptive correlation study to identify the relationship among online collaborating learning attitudes, empathy, critical thinking disposition, and sense of community in nursing students in the online learning environment during COVID-19. Data were collected from 129 nursing students. The SPSS/28.0 program was used to analyze the data using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffé test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and hierarchical multiple regression. Factors that significantly affect sense of community in nursing students were online collaborating learning attitudes and critical thinking disposition, and the explanatory power was about 42.2%. Based on these results, in order to increase sense of community of nursing students in non-face-to-face learning environment, it is required to strengthen the problem-solving-centered learning method cultivating the online collaborating learning attitude and critical thinking disposition.

STEAM Education considering the Level of Cognitive Development of Students in order to Cultivate Creative Convergence Talents (창의적 융합인재양성을 위해 학생들의 인지발달 수준을 고려한 융합인재교육)

  • The STEAM education was applied to science high school students, and changes in perceptions of students and teachers were investigated after class treatment. By the results of the student's perception survey, very positive results were found in increasing problem-solving capabilities, educational satisfaction, etc. More than 98% of students said they would continue to participate in STEAM education classes. Meanwhile, the lack of time for class activities put a burden on students to complete the problems during class. Especially nanoscience content and activities were properly organized in consideration of the level of cognitive development of the students. In addition, as a result of a survey of teachers' perceptions for students, more than 80.0% of teachers responded very positively in 'self-directed learning ability' and 'problem-solving capability', etc.

The Effect of High School Students' Life-competence Thanks to the Learning Attitudes on the School Library-Assisted Instruction (학교도서관 활용수업에 대한 학습태도가 고등학생의 생애능력에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, after Library-Assisted Instruction is set out and executed, it is surveyed and verified the connection between Learning Attitude and Life competence. This study indicates that Learning Attitude and Life skills of Library-Assisted Instruction have close correlation and the extension of Life competence(Communication, Problem Solving. Self-Directed Learning) is under the influence of Learning Attitude. This study suggests that cooperative learning, Information Processing Model and constructivism learning theory have to be adopted as a means of increasing more educational effects and extensions of Library-Assisted Instruction.

  • This paper deals with the design and implementation of PBL for the computer network practice to improve learner's learning ability. This design is for college student's whose learning ability is low. I implemented the CNC-PBL in a class of second year students at Daeduk college. The result of the experiment showed that the CNC-PBL facilitated learner's self-directed learning process.

  • An Education-Industrial cooperative system is a systematic effort that industrial body and educational body cooperate with each other in order to achieve two different purposes. This paper suggested an education-industrial cooperative system model based on the experiential learning through cooperating with the industry. SEARIM, the research activities company is received the guideline for the improvement and management of quality regarding products by using TRIZ/6-sigma. Also, we evaluated and analyzed the product of this study result based on the result a survey.

A Web-based Cooperative Learning System using Extended TGT Model (확장된 TGT 모델을 이용한 웹기반 협동학습 시스템)

  • As web technology and educational environments are in rapid progress, web-based cooperative learning systems have gained a lot of interests. Recently some studies have attempted to combine a learning system and simple games that enable learners to actively participate and have high interests in learning. These studies are based on TGT model, a cooperative learning model using games, and mostly remain system design levels. A few implemented systems have many problems because they focus only on pure TGT model. To solve these problems, this paper builds a extended TGT model and a new web-based cooperative learning system using this new model. The extended part contains ideas such as expert learning from Jigsaw II model, improvement scores from STAD model and making game problems by learners. A system using pure TGT model and a suggested system are implemented and used by two classes of middle school students to evaluate our system. The experimental results show that our system outperforms the other system.

  • A project learning is the model to solve the problem in cooperation with the members of a group. The purpose of this study is to make a new learning model using a web on the traditional project learning model. A Web has the proper nature for students to make their learning environment, so that this study embodied Student Directed Web based project learning system to allow them to expand their abilities. All action of students, that is, suggesting main subject, making plans, activating and adjusting them, and evaluation can be happened in this system. According to the result of applying the system, participants in Students Directed Web based Project Learning intend to implement learning activities more positively, affirmatively and cooperatively than the existing ones.

  • Although many attempts have been made to use the Internet for educational purposes, not many attempts have achieved their goals. Such failure is mainly due to the lack of understanding on the way to use the Internet. The goal of this research is to investigate the potentiality of the Project-Based Learning approach using the Internet(NetPBL) and the ways to utilize the NetPBL. The NetPBL can be utilized through various activities such as keypals, mentoring, use of resources, cooperative learning, publishing, survey and data analysis, cooperative problem solving, simulation, and social action. Such diversity of the NetPBL can create a problem-based, context-based and learner-centered environment, which takes various types of the Internet use. In spite of such potentiality, little is known on how to implement the NetPBL. On this point, this research attempts to synthesize instructional strategies to implement the NetPBL at the macro and the micro level. At the macro level, instructional process is divided into four steps such as plan, preparation, implementation and closure, and some instructional suggestions are made for each step. At the micro level, detailed instructional strategies are suggested for the facilitation of self-directed learning and cooperative learning.
