  • As globalization has been accelerating in recent years, more people have opportunities to live abroad for an extended period of time, which is known to have strong influence on consumers. The main purposes of this study were to examine if and how sojourning experience could bring changes to people in general and in clothing styles with focus on Korean adults. The researchers conducted in-depth interviews on a total of thirty-six women and twenty-one men who lived in foreign countries more than two years and have been back in Korea longer than one year. The major results indicated that in addition to personalities, age, length of stay, activities during stay, gender, and cultural distances played important roles in bringing long-term changes on people. Re-established self-identity, changes in values, and openness toward diversity were major common changes observed in the interviewees. In addition, they became educated consumers with good knowledge of diverse brands and prices, and emphasized value as opposed to price. Changes in clothing styles were noted mainly among women. They placed high importance on having their own style, coordination and appropriateness, which were consistent with the general changes. Influences of different cultures were also noted.

  • This study examined the multicultural awareness, cultural sensitivity, and characteristics of multicultural experiences affecting the intercultural communication skills among Korean nursing students. The study participants were a total of 353 nursing students who had completed one or more clinical practice courses and were in 1 University and 2 Colleges. A self-assessment instrument was used. The descriptive statistics, t-test, one way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and simple and multiple regression were used to analyze the data. Statistically significant differences in the intercultural communication skill were observed in multicultural education, foreign friends, proficiency in English, stay in foreign countries, and length of stay in foreign countries. The intercultural communication skills was correlated with both multicultural awareness and cultural sensitivity. Multiple regression analysis showed that the multi-cultural awareness, multi-cultural education, and proficiency in English could explain 41.3% of the variances for the intercultural communication skill. Simple regression analysis also showed that the length of stay in foreign countries explained 2.5% of the intercultural communication skill among nursing students, who had stayed in foreign countries. Therefore, nursing educators should improve their multi-cultural awareness and develop various multi-cultural education programs, consider living abroad, and improve their language proficiency to strengthen nursing students' intercultural communication skill.

The statistical method used to test the hypotheses was Structural Equation Modeling using PLS. The results of this study are follows. The moderating role of Cultural Intelligence between information seeking and information using abilities is more stronger in marketing rather than relationship adaptation. Cultural Intelligence moderates between them. Critical factors affecting Cultural Intelligence are also discussed; foreign language fluency, business travels in abroad, characteristics of the business travels, multi-lingual ability, pre-education related cultural subjects, and visit experience in foreign countries. • Despite the increasing number of international students in Korea, there is a lack of research on the health information-seeking behavior of international students. This study examined the health information search behavior of international students in Korea through a questionnaires and in-depth interviews adopting Critical Incident Technique. Most frequent health information needs that the participants experienced were related to Covid-19 and locating doctors/hospitals. The difficulties in seeking health information were language barriers, lack of knowledge of the Korean medical system, insufficient or overflowing information on the Internet. However, despite the language barrier, international students mainly used Korean sources (friends/family, websites, social media) for searching health information. In order to search health information on Korean websites, they used Google Translator or got help from bilingual friends/family members. The participants who have lived in Korea for a shorter period of time or who have lower Korean language proficiency tend to obtain health information through the community on social networks; whereas the longer the period of residence in Korea and the better the Korean language proficiency, the more likely to use websites. Only 28% of the participants gave positive answers to the question asking their confidence in finding the health information they needed. It is discussed how to help international students find accurate and credible health information.
