  • In this paper, reference erosion criteria value suitable for progressive collapse analysis of RC structure due to blast load is proposed. Erosion is fundamentally a numerical technique to overcome the problems such as large numerical errors or abrupt termination of analysis and previous study has been suggested value for blast analysis. But concrete has different stress-strain curve according to strain rate. Consequently, the erosion criteria for the realistic progressive collapse simulation were suggested by comparing experiment results and numerical analysis results. Finally, the real progressive collapse of Oklahoma Federal Building was analyzed by using the median value of two values. And as a result, the analysis result is the actual collapse of the well described.

  • In this paper, an efficient algorithm is established in order to estimate the plastic properties of power-law hardening bulk specimen materials with one simple spherical indentation impression test. This work is based on a new formulation of representative strain and, therefore, compare to the preceding approaches the fitting parameters are significantly reduced. Moreover, the new definition of representative strain endowed more physical meaning to the representative strain. In order to verify the reliability of the reverse analysis, we have studied a broad set of materials whose property ranges cover essentially all engineering metals and alloys. Based on the indentation force-displacement P-${\delta}$ curves obtained from numerical simulations, the characteristics of the indentation response and material elastoplastic properties are bridged via explicit functions. Next, through the procedure of reverse analysis the yield stress and power-law hardening exponent of bulk specimen materials can be determined. Finally, good agreement between the result from reverse analysis and initial input data from experiment can be observed.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the shear behavior of prestressed concrete deep beams and to provide the data for development of improved design criteria. The accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process may be enhanced by the use of sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program. Hence, in this study, the computer program, named RCAHEST (reinforced concrete analysis in higher evaluation system technology), was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. A bonded or unbonded tendon element based on the finite element method, that can represent the interaction between tendon and concrete of prestressed concrete member, is used. The proposed numerical method for the shear behavior of prestressed concrete deep beams is verified by comparing the analytical results with test data by others.

  • The shell structures with composite materials have the advantages in strength, corrosion resistance, and weight reduction. The objective of this study is to analyze anisotropic composite circular cylindrical shells with shear deformation theory. In applying numerical methods to solve differential equations of anisotropic shells, this paper use finite difference method. The accuracy of the numerical method can be improved by taking higher order of interval ${\Delta}$ to reduce error. This study compares the results of finite difference method with the results of ANSYS based on finite element method. Several numerical examples show the advantages of the stiffness increasement when the composite materials aroused. Therefore, it is expected that results of this study give various guides for change of the subtended angles, load cases, boundary conditions, and side-to-thickness ratio.

  • This paper presents a procedure of calculating a safety factor of the unsaturated slope suffering from the rainfall infiltration. The process of infiltration into a slope due to rainfall and its effect on the behavior of the soil slope are examined by using a two dimensional finite element flow-deformation coupled analysis. A factor of safety is calculated at various elapsed times after the commencement of rainfall as in the following procedure. First, stresses are estimated at each Gaussian point from the coupled finite element analysis. Then, the global stress smoothing method is applied to get a continuous stress field. Based on this stress field, a factor of safety is calculated for a specified slip surface by a stress integration scheme. Then, a search strategy is used to find out a critical slip surface which is associated with the minimum factor of safety. Some numerical examples are analyzed in order to study the effect of hydraulic conductivity on the slope stability during rain-induced infiltration. According to the results, local failure zone can be formed near the slope surface due to inhomogeneous distribution of hydraulic conductivity If the failure zone is once formed, then the region extends until a large amount of slide activates. Therefore the local failure can be neglected no longer in the stability analysis.

  • As large underground projects such as radioactive waste disposal, hot water and heat storage, and geothermal energy become influential, the study, which consider all aspects of thermics, hydraulics and mechanics would be needed. Thermo Hydro-Mechanical coupling analysis is one of the most complex numerical technique because it should be implemented with the combined three governing equations to analyze the behavior of rock mass. In this study, finite element code, which is based on Biot's consolidation theory, was developed to analyze the thermo-hydro-mechanical coupling in continuum rock mass. To verify the implemented program, one-dimensional consolidation model under the isothermal and non-isothermal conditions was analyzed and was compared with the analytic solution. The parametric study on two-dimensional consolidation was also performed and the effects of several factors such as poisson's ratio and hydraulic anisotropy on rock mass behavior were investigated. In the future, this program would be revised to be used for analysis of general discontinuous media with incorporating discrete joint model.
