  • The advancement of information technologies including the Internet has affected the way of social information processing as well as brought about the paradigm shift to the information society. Accordingly, it is very important to study the process of social information processing over the digital media through which social information is generated, distributed, and led to social consensus. In this study, we analyze the mechanism of social information processing, identify a process model of social consensus and institutionalization of the results, and finally propose a set of information processing characteristics on the internet media. We deploy the ethnographic approach to analyze the meaning of group behavior in the context of society to analyze two major events which happened in Korean society. The formation process of social consensus is found to consist of 5 steps: suggestion of social issues, selective reflection on public opinion, acceptance of the issues and diffusion, social consensus, and institutionalization and feedback. The key characteristics of information processing in the Internet is grouped into proactive response to an event, the changes in the role of opinion leader, the flexibility of proposal and analysis, greater scalability, relevance to consensus making, institutionalization and interaction. This study contributes to the literature by proposing a process model of social information processing which can be used as the basis for analyzing the social consensus making process from the social network perspective. In addition, this study suggests a new perspective where the utility of the Internet media can be understood from the social information processing so that other disciplines including politics, communications, and management can improve the decision making performance in utilizing the Internet media.

  • This study qualitatively examined the lives of non-tenured, secondary school teachers who are preparing for the teachers' exam. Semi-structured, face-to-face interviews were conducted with ten teachers and the data were analyzed using the consensual qualitative research method. Most of the participants had chosen a contract-based teaching position, believing that it would meet their financial needs, provide them with the satisfaction of being a teacher and, more importantly, afford practical help with their exam preparation. In practice, however, they suffered from low self-esteem and identity confusion due to discrimination by the school administrators. Ironically, this unfair treatment strengthened the participants' commitment to studying for the exam, in order to acquire a stable and secure position in school. However, they experienced a lot of study-related stress, including a lack of study hours, heavy study load, multiple life roles, physical exhaustion, the difficulties caused by the vague exam guide, and anxiety due to previous failure in the exam. Based on the findings of this study, directions for future research are suggested.

Thirteen participants, operating peer counseling program at the Independent Living Center who finished 9 sessions of person - centered counseling program over 3 months were interviewed. The collected data were analyzed using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR). The results were grouped into three themes as "Acceptance as oneself", "Counselor's variables", and "Limitations and unsatisfactory points". Eight categories such as "The relationship with myself and others", "Accepting oneself though with discomfort", "changed perspective about problems", "Recognizing the parts that oneself was not aware", "Accepting one's potentials as well as limitations", "Opportunity to reflect one's life", "Attitude about life ahead" were retrieved with 23 sub-categories. Based on the results, the possibility of applying person - centered approach on peer counseling was presented. • The purpose of this study was to examine the psychological characteristics of affecting never married men and women through analyzing the content of in-depth interviews about the idea of marriage and the reason for never married choice. For achieving this purpose, the in-depth interview was conducted with 9 men and women aged mid-20s to late 30s who said to choose never married life for a long time, and then the content of interview was analyzed using consensual qualitative research. As a result of analyzing the content of in-depth interview, it was derived into 2 areas, 10 sub-areas, and 25 categories. The results of the study were as follows. Firstly, it was found that research participants negatively recognized the marriage and had unrealistic expectation rather than no expectation for marriage. Secondly, most of the research participants felt negative feelings about their parents' patriarchal role, and they did not want to live like their parents. They also reported that they did not see their marriage separated from their parents. Thirdly, most of the research participants felt difficulty in forming relationships with intimate person, and it became more difficult to have expectations about spouses and marriage due to repeated relationship conflict patterns. Fourthly, the research participants showed psychological aspect of experiential avoidance and seeking for individuality in terms of never married choice. Most of the research participants predicted the failure of married life, and reported that they were trying to prevent uncomfortable feelings and sufferings by choosing never married life. Also they reported that individuality considered more important than connection with others(togetherness) and individual value considered more important than collective value. Participants in this study showed negative evaluation or had negative influences on the marriage life of parents and acquaintances. This is more likely to be a passive factor in never married choice, so future research should examine the characteristics of active factors in never married choice.

  • The aim of this study is to conduct a comparative study on the sustainability of the public pension. While the mainstream view on the sustainability of the public pension presupposes financial sustainability, the original purpose of guaranteeing retirement income has been overlooked. The sustainability of the public pension needs to consider not only financial sustainability, but also various factors such as demographic structure, labor productivity, industrial structure, life cycle of working households, government spending on public pensions, economic growth, and social consensus. With this awareness of the problem, this study conducted a fuzzy set qualitative comparative study in 44 countries, including Korea. As a result of the analysis, it was found that Korea had high financial sustainability for a single year, but relatively low integration related to social consultation and public pension operation, and adequacy such as the degree of guarantee and linkage with other pension systems was also relatively low. The sustainability of the broader public pension should be emphasized not only for financial sustainability, but also for adequacy and integration.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience on non-selection of romance among college students. A deep understand would lead us to help their adaptation and development. For this, we interviewed 12 people who chose to be single and the data was analyzed by the method of Consensual Qualitative Research. As a result, 6 sub-domains and 27 categories have been drawn under 3 core ideas in total. First, the participants described their non-selection of romance as temporary because they had no one to like. Second, during the non-selection of romance, romance was out of priority due to the situation without composure for participants. Also, they didn't place much value on romantic relationship and perceived the experience of past romance negatively. Third, they were focused on themselves and felt free, and they felt the emptiness of their lover and the importance of their surroundings by not selecting romance. Implications and limitations of current study are discussed.

  • This study aims to recognize the definite cognition of Korean people about Social Polarization and to define its category. For this study, Qualitative Research is provided to 38 candidates who live in Seoul. The results show that the reason of the social polarization is divided into 4 categories such as Impossible Social Class Change, Can be the middle class, Can be the Rich, Possible Social Class Change. And the solution of polarization is divided into 4 categories such as Progressive Solution, Moderate Progressive Solution, Moderate Conservative Solution, Conservative Solution. On the basis of the cross-tabulation of the reason and solution of polarization, Most of Korean have tendency to cognize the reason of polarization conservatively, but the solution of polarization is cognized progressively. And This study tries to discuss the meaning of the categories and the implications for consensual communication of Social polarization in korean society.

  • The concept of infinite series is an important subject of major mathematics curriculum in college. For several centuries it has provided learners not only counter-intuitive obstacles but also central role of analysis study. As the understanding in concept on infinite series became foundation of development of calculus in history of mathematics, it is essential to present students to study higher mathematics. Most students having concept of infinite sum have no difficulty in mathematical contents such as convergence test of infinite series. But they have difficulty in organizing concept of infinite series of partial sum. Thus, in this study we try to analyze construct the concept of infinite series in terms of APOS theory and genetic decomposition. By checking to construct concept of infinite series, we try to get an useful educational implication on teaching of infinite series.
