  • A new era has come where high quality educational materials can be acquired easily through the World Wide Web. These materials, however, need to be refined and streamlined to maximize their effect on education. In order to provide such a streamlined flow, we need to be able to re-organize documents, which exist independent of each other on the Web, in a way that maintains their appropriate order in the right context to satisfy educational purposes. In addition, we should be able to provide supplementary explanations or missing information to the organized materials for smooth connections among them. In order to meet the requirements, we employed the virtual document concept that allows us to reuse existing documents for educational purposes. By providing a retrieval engine for virtual documents, we attempt to induce self-directed learning based on document retrieval, suitable for the level and purpose of students.

  • Objectives : There has been a need for establishing operational curriculum for chinese characters and chinese writing used by traditional Korean medicine(TKM), but it was not thoroughly recognized so far. Methods : We analysed the usage of unicode chinese characters of acupuncture & moxibustion textbook to recognize the prerequisite chinese characters for TKM studies as clinical perspectives. Results : It was found that 穴, 經, 鍼, 法, 寸, 部, 分, 刺, 下, 上, 中, 位, 氣, 陽, 灸, 脈, 陰, 治, 足, 主 are the most frequently used 20 chinese characters. We also showed that adequate prerequisite chinese character should be designated for the more efficient education of TKM. Conclusions : This study was the first systematic approach to get essential and prerequisite chinese characters for the education of TKM especially for the acupuncture & moxibustion. The prerequisite characters by this study will be used for the development of KEET (Korean Medicine Education Eligibility Test), entrance exam to the Colleges of Oriental Medicine and textbooks, and educational curriculum of premed students.

  • As an effort to improve the employment of graduates from fashion.related departments, this study purposed to develop a course that may contribute to a broader range of employment, focusing on CS, which has been overlooked by fashion.related departments, among various job categories in the fashion industry. In order to determine the necessity of the new course, we surveyed job categories that enrolled students wanted to have after graduation and graduates'opinions on and responses to the opening of the new course. In addition, for the efficient design of the course, this study extracted the practically applicable goals and contents of the course from basic theories in previous CS .related studies in the area of fashion studies and from interviews with field workers in related businesses. Through these multi.sided approaches, this study proposed a fashion CS course as a major applied subject with an hours' theory and two hours' practice classes, and suggested a weekly teaching plan of 15 weeks. This study is meaningful in that it expanded the scope and variety of employment for students of fashion.related departments, and developed a course that can be immediately applicable to any CS.related jobs. The results of this study are expected to expand work areas for graduates from fashion.related departments in the fashion industry.

  • This study is to review the historical documents about Cinnamomum camphora SIEB. in Goryeo and Joseon Dynasty. First of all, we defined it's feature and used case by the most appropriate word 'Jang(樟)' meaning Cinnamomum camphora SIEB. We also discovered some illusions and should suggest a new possibility. First, we analyzed the definition and examples of Cinnamomum camphora SIEB. and come to the conclusion that 'Jang(樟)' seems to be the most appropriate word. Second, we confirmed that Cinnamomum camphora SIEB. grew in extralimital area. It is believed that it's because of making a mistake. Third, we confirmed that it is confused Cinnamomum camphora SIEB. with Koelreuteria paniculata in Yi, Gyu-Gyeong's records. However, it's required to verify the other cases of the Cinnamomum camphora SIEB.'s records. We expect a follow-up study about it by classifying modern feature and comparing literature matching.

  • This study intends to construct scenic byway database and to examine and suggest social experiment of scenic byway. As basis work for the experiment of the scenic byway, we build database by using ITS standard node link management system. The DB includes scenic byway routes of Korea and Japan. The analyses show that the scenic byway in both nations consists of roads, reservation, road sign, vehicle number plate, and it was found that infrastructure and system are inadequate for scenic byway. These experiment can be effectively used for scenic byway in Korea and Japan as the basis data. The results of this experiment will be useful for plan and develop a scenic byway.

  • North Korea is plentiful in the mineral resources as magnesite, gold, zinc, iron, rare metal, and coal resources compared to South Korea and has 6 industrial zones which are located nearby to the mineralized areas. The industrial zones are provided with a sound infrastructures and accumulation of advanced technology. As a huge mineral and energy consuming country, South Korea imports mineral and coal resources equivalent to almost 8 trillion won annually. Inter-Korean cooperation for development of mineral resources in North Korea will be improved by the practical use of the North Korea's plentiful mineral resources, infiastructures related to development and refinement, and basic geo-technology, which would be considered toward combining with South Korean capital and Russian geo-technologies.

  • A speech recognition system based on a neural network, which can be used for telephon number services was tested. Because in Korea two different cardinal number systems, a koreanic one and a sinokoreanic one, are in use, it is necessary that the used systems is able to recognize 22 discret words. The structure of the neural network used had two layers, also a structure with 3 layers, one hidden layreformed of each 11, 22 and 44 hidden units was tested. During the learning phase of the system the so called BP-algorithm (back propagation) was applied. The process of learning can e influenced by using a different learning factor and also by the method of learning(for instance random or cycle). The optimal rate of speaker independent recognition by using a 2 layer neural network was 96%. A drop of recognition was observed by overtraining. This phenomen appeared more clearly if a 3 layer neural network was used. These phenomens are described in this paper in more detail. Especially the influence of the construction of the neural network and the several states during the learning phase are examined.

  • The present study aims to investigate how differences in terms of morphological awareness (MA) influence the learning of new words in young adults. Divided into two groups according to their MA, participants were asked to learn the meanings of rare Hanja words in both morphologically supported and unsupported sentence contexts. The results indicate that high-MA participants were more successful in learning the meanings of the words than the low-MA participants and that the group difference lasted for one week after learning. More importantly, the effect of MA was greater for rare words appearing within morphological supported sentences. These results suggest that both the availability of morphological analyses during learning and individual differences in MA influence the learning of word meanings.
