  • The purposes of this study were to 1) examine the tendency of elementary school students' self-esteem and clothing behavior, 2) find out the difference in their clothing behavior in accordance with the demographic characteristics and the level of their self-esteem, and 3) analyze the relationship between self-esteem and clothing behavior. This process was to understand the clothing behavior of elementary school students and to provide basic data needed for a desirable clothing life education for them. The subjects of this study were 403male and female fifth and sixth graders from elementary schools located in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do. The results of this study were as follows : First, elementary school students' self-esteem and clothing behavior were found to be in the mid-level. The sub-factors of clothing behavior were indicated in the order of clothing independence, clothing comfort, clothing management, clothing interest and clothing conformity. Second, there were differences in clothing behavior in accordance with the demographic characteristics and the level of their self-esteem. Female students had higher level of clothing conformity, clothing interest and clothing management than male students, while males had higher clothing comfort than females. Fifth graders, compared to sixth graders, had higher clothing management and lower clothing independence. Students who received \20,000 or more allowance a month had higher clothing conformity and clothing interest, and lower clothing comfort. Higher clothing interest was found when students had jobless mothers. The higher the students' self-esteem was, the higher their clothing management level was. Finally, elementary school students' self-esteem was found to have a positive relationship with clothing management. In other words, elementary school students with higher self-esteem manage their clothes better.

  • Addiction to online games has been causing many problems for elementary school students such as school life, humanity, scholarship and physique. Considering the increase in children being addicted to internet games, there are growing needs for attention and countermeasures toward the children. Nevertheless, it leaves something to be desired. Especially, studies and counterplans for the children who live in the metropolitan are not suited with the circumstances of each regional child. Therefore, it's necessary to work out new research by regional student groups. That is why this study understands fundamental facts about the usage of the internet of elementary school students living in Geoje, Gyeongnam and figures out the effects of online game addiction on the formation of character. Also, it suggests the right direction of internet use to parents and teachers, as rousing the public interest about computer game addiction.

  • In order to understand the characteristics of affect of elementary school students in this study, we used a questionnaire developed by Hannula (2012) to measure elementary students' beliefs and affective factors about mathematics based on the emotional, cognitive, and motivational dimensions of the affect of personal level. Statistical analysis and one-way ANOVA were conducted to identify the characteristics of elementary school students' beliefs and affective factors about mathematics according to mathematics achievement level, grade level, and gender. Regression analysis was performed to analyze the correlation between the factors. The results of this study are compared with the results of the previous study which used comparative study of elementary school students in Finland and Chile using the questionnaire used in this study.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of elementary school students' interpersonal stress and attitudes toward help on happiness. The subjects were 171 elementary school students. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, Pearson's correlation analysis, and hierarchical regression analysis. The results of the study are as follows. First, there was a significant negative correlation between interpersonal stress and happiness. Attitudes toward help had a significant positive correlation with happiness. Second, parents and peer relationship stress had significant negative influence on happiness. Third, help seeking attitude toward parents and teacher among the sub-factors of help seeking attitude had a significant positive influence on happiness. Fourth, the relationship between parental stress and happiness showed a significant mediating effect on parents and teacher attitude toward help. The relationship between teacher stress and happiness showed a significant mediating effect on teacher attitude toward help. The relationship between peer relationship stress and happiness had no mediating effect of attitude toward help. Based on these results, we discussed the importance of attitude toward help in the relationship between stress and elementary school students' happiness.

  • This study aims to analyze elementary gifted students' inquiries on combinatoric tasks. In particular, we designed circular permutation tasks and analyzed students' inquiries on these tasks. We especially analyzed students' expressions, counting processes, and their construction of set of outcomes. The findings showed that the students utilized analogy to resolve given tasks, and they had difficulties in categorizing and re-categorizing possible outcomes of given tasks. Their improper use of analogy also caused difficulties in resolving circular permutation tasks.

  • This study was designed to develop a teacher's rating scale of elementary school student's school maladjustment. 50 behavior were drawn as elementary school student's school maladjustment behavior from the responses of elementary school teachers. To identify sub-factors of the scale, 60 teachers rated their 240 student's behavior and the collected data were analyzed by using factor analysis. 4 sub-factors were identified as the result : aggressive selfish behavior, misconduct of lesson and classroom rules, passive unsociable behavior and positive evasion of school activities. To identify the validity of the scale, the data from 120 students were analyzed through the concurrent validity between the scale and the teacher rating scale of school maladjustment for Student Problem Behavior Checklist for Elementary School students(Kim & Hwang, 2009). To examine the reliability of the scale, test-retest correlations were calculated by using the data from 120 students and internal consistency coefficients were calculated by using the data from 120 students. The results showed that Teacher's rating Scale of Elementary School Student's School Maladjustment was valid and reliable.

  • Almost every children are naturally non competitive, so they have test anxiety. Because grading in paper-pencil tests is related to competition with their friends. Intense competition should not be a part of the classroom environment. This study intends to reflect current standardized tests(summative evaluations) in an elementary school mathematics(2008) and reconstructed it's problem. Teachers should provide students with rich situational problem-solving opportunities. Therefore we conclude "summative evaluation are consisted of some large problem type which contain some subproblems, or from easy(simple) problem with relation to difficult problem)".

  • This study aims to reflect on mathematical imaginations in learning mathematics and elementary students' mathematical imaginations. This was approaching a study of imagination not as psychological problems but as objects and methods of mathematics learning. First, children's mathematical narratives were analysed in terms of Egan(2008)'s basic cognitive tools using imagination, that is, metaphor, binary opposites, rhyme rhythm pattern, jokes humor, mental imagery, gossip, play, mystery. Second, how children's imaginations change under different grades was addressed.

  • The objective of this research is to compare and analyze regional accessibility of Korean primary school students to oral health services from the perspective of public health geography by using geographic information system in which the choropleth map has been regarded as the most popular method. Statistical proximity on the basis of calculus of 205 regions-based school oral health data is optimized to set five class intervals for five maps. These choropleth maps of oral heal programs such as oral health education, tooth-brushing method education, preventive dental care and curative dental care, demonstrate that there exist wide regional discrepancies throughout the country in terms of primary school students' accessibility to oral health services within the programs. The paper not just contributes to overcoming the existing paradigm by actively considering an interdisciplinary research among public health dentistry, dental hygiene and geography of public health, but provides clear evidence for national oral health policy in South Korea.
