  • The purpose of this study was to validate the newly developed K-WPPSI-IV using other current IQ tests in common use in Korea such as the K-ABC and K-CTONI-2. Fifty three 2~7 year olds were tested with both the K-WPPSI-IV and K-ABC in a counterbalanced order. Simultaneous, cognitive, information processing as well as acquisition indices of K-ABC were moderately correlated with the total IQ of K-WPPSI-IV, ranging .44~.58. The results of these tests were comparable with US data: Correlations among WPPSI-IV & DAS-II subscales were .31~.67. The correlations among K-WPPSI-IV & K-CTONI-2 subscales in sixty two children ranged from .43~.49. WMI(Working memory index) as well as PSI(Processing speed index) of K-WPPSI showed low correlations with non-verbal IQ. These results indicated that nonverbal IQ does not test processing speed which in turn is very important in WMI & PSI Indices of K-WPPSI-IV. Further studies are needed to broaden the concurrent validities using K-WISC-IV or K-BSID-2. In addition, predictive as well as discriminate validity studies need to be conducted for better understanding of K-WPPSI-IV.

  • The purpose of this study was to contrast young gifted children with ordinary young children in K-ABC profile. The subject were 51 young gifted children and 51 ordinary young children, 2 to 4 years of age. Data of children's K-ABC profile were analyzed by Correlation and Crosstabs. The main results of this study were as follows: First, in the case of ordinary young children, there were significant positive correlation among 'Mental Processing Composite' and all sub-tests of mental processing composite except 'face memory' test, 'Achievement Scale'. In young gifted children, there were significant positive correlation among 'Mental Processing Composite' and just four sub-tests of mental processing composite, and there were no significant correlation between 'Mental Processing Composite' and 'Achievement Scale'. Second, there were no significant differences among all sub-tests' strength and weakness in young gifted children and ordinary young children. Third, young gifted children got higher score in 'Sequential Processing Scale' and 'Mental Processing Composite' than 'Achievement Scale'. But in ordinary young children, there were no significant differences among all K-ABC' sub-scales.

  • Objectives:This study was conducted to compare the clinical and neuropsychological characteristics by DSM-IV subtypes of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder(ADHD) patients who did not have comorbid psychiatric disorders. Methods:5-15 year old children with ADHD were recruited at psychiatric outpatient clinic of Yeungnam University hospital and the patients with comorbidity or neurological abnormalities were excluded. Finally, total 404 children with ADHD were selected for this study. There were 234 subjects of ADHD-C(57.9%), 156 subjects of ADHD-I(38.6%) and 14 subjects of ADHD-HI(3.5%), who fulfilled the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria. The mean age of the total subjects was 9.63±2.49 years old. The psychopathology, IQ, behavioral problems, neuropsychological executive function were evaluated before pharmacological treatment. The measures were Korean Personality Inventory of Child(K-PIC) for psychopathology, 4 behavioral check lists(ADDES-HV, ACTeRS, CAP, SNAP) for behavioral symptoms of ADHD, K-ABC and KEDI-WISC for IQ and Conner's CPT, WCST, SST for neuropsychological executive functions. Results:1) The prevalence of subtypes was ADHD-C, ADHD-I, ADHD-HI in decreasing order. There was no sex difference of prevalence among three subtypes. The mean age of ADHD-I was older than other subtypes. 2) There was significant differences of psychopathology among subtypes, the ADHD-C and ADHD-HI had higher than the ADHD-I in the scores of delinquent, hyperactivity and psychosis;the ADHD-C had higher than the ADHD-I in the scores of family relation and autism, the scores of ego resilience were lower than the ADHD-I. However, there was no difference in anxiety, depression and somatization scores among them. 3) The results of behavioral symptom check lists, the ADHD-C had higher the score of inattention, hyperactivity and impulsivity than the ADHD-I. Meanwhile the results of ACTeRs, which rated by the teachers, were different. 4) There were significant differences of sequential processing scale and arithmetics among subtypes in IQ using K-ABC, but there was no significant difference between the ADHD-C and the ADHD-I after excluding the ADHD-HI due to small numbers. 5) There was numerical difference among subtypes but did not reach statistical significance in three neuropsychological executive function tests. Conclusion:In conclusion, our results revealed that there was significant difference in clinical features among three subtypes but, no significant difference in executive functions.

  • Objective : This study sought to investigate the effects of a sensory integration intervention focusing on vestibular and proprioceptive on the spatial relations and visual-motor coordination of children with developmental disorders. Methods : Three children with developmental disabilities aged 5 to 6 years were the subjects of this study, and the ABA' design, which is one of the single subject research designs. A total of 18 sessions were conducted over a six-week period-that is, three 30-minute sessions per week. During the three baseline sessions, the children's spatial relations and visual-motor coordination were evaluated prior to the intervention. During the 12 sessions conducted in the intervention period, a vestibular and proprioception sensory integration intervention was performed, while in the final three sessions, the children's spatial relations and visual-motor coordination were again evaluated (without any further intervention Children were measured and evaluated every session after intervention using a computer cognitive rehabilitation program (CoTras-C). Moreover, the Kaufman Assessment Battery for Children and the Korean-Development Test of Visual Perception-2 were used as evaluation tools to verify the effectiveness of the intervention. Results : There were significant differences in the spatial relations and visual-motor coordination scores of the children with developmental disorders before and after the vestibular and proprioceptive sensory integration intervention. More specifically, after the intervention, all three children showed statistically significant improvements. Conclusion : The applied vestibular and proprioceptive sensory integration therapy had a significant impact on the spatial relations and visual-motor coordination of the three children with developmental disorders.
