A Study on the Improvement of Capstone Design Learning Achievement through the Design and Fabrication of Pneumatic Control Circuit (공압제어회로 설계 및 제작을 통한 캡스톤 디자인 학습 성취도 향상 연구)

  • The pneumatic control circuit is an important basic element that constitutes factory automation in the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, and the ability to design and fabricate pneumatic control circuit at the university level is one of the most important educational courses. In this study, it introduced collaborative learning by group, and capstone design technique applied to the subject of design and fabricate of pneumatic control circuit. In addition, it intends to contribute to the innovation of practical engineering education by examining the learning achievement of students. It was investigated analytical skill differences by applying cooperative learning to the experimental group and by applying traditional lecture methods to the comparison group. The experimental group that conducted cooperative learning showed higher academic ability than the comparison group that conducted only traditional lectures, and the t-test results of the significant level p<0.05 also confirmed that there were significant differences between the two groups. It was also responded 13 survey questions in four experimental groups and analyzed the results, showing a high satisfaction level of 4.731 on average. Through this study the design and fabrication of the pneumatic control circuit is more effective in improving students' learning achievement when applying the capstone design technique than when operating as a normal subject and expected to use as a basic material for the development of the curriculum of Capstone design in the future.

An analysis of effect for grouping methods corresponding to ecological niche overlap of 7th graders' photosynthesis concepts (7학년 광합성 개념의 지위 중복 변화에 따른 소집단 구성의 효과 분석)

  • Small group learning is an educational approach to allow students to solve the problems and to achieve a common goal. Especially, small group learning in science education is one of the most important educational approaches and effective to ensure understanding of a topic. Small group learning consisting of three students in science education maximize student understanding and learning efficiency. However, It is reported that the effects of small group learning on achievement show different results, corresponding to different grouping methods(homogeneous/heterogeneous). This study investigated the effects of grouping method on difference of ecological niche of photosynthesis concepts. To achieve this, 1107 7th students were composed of homogeneous and heterogeneous groups classified into top, middle, and bottom levels. The photosynthesis units were divided into four categories: the photosynthesizing place, the substances of photosynthesis, required materials for the photosynthesizing, and environmental factors affecting photosynthesis. A questionnaire was composed by selecting concepts having a frequency of 4% or more based on prior studies on the change of the ecological status of photosynthesis. The questionnaire was scored in terms of relativity and understanding on each of the proposed concepts in the four categories. The result of this study is as set forth below. 1) There was an enhancement of learning the concept of science in small group classes consisting of 3 students. 2) To enhance the average upon composing of a group, it is proposed that the group should be formed homogeneously, and to reduce the deviation between the members, it is proposed that the group should be formed heterogeneously. Through this study, it is expected that specific studies verifying the difference or effect on the duplicity of results are conducted based on the composition of groups.

Development of a Quality of Life Scale For Children on Chronic Peritoneal Dialysis (만성 복막투석 아동용 삶의 질 척도 개발)

  • Purpose : The aim of this study was to develop a quality of life scale for children on chronic peritoneal dialysis(QOL-CPD). Methods : Thirty children on chronic PD at Seoul National University Children's Hospital participated. A healthy control group included 47 elementary school children. Other patients groups are 32 children from the department of pediatric orthopedics and 28 children from the department of child psychiatry. The age range of all children was 7 to 16 years. Preliminary items of the QOL-CPD were developed and administered along with the Korean version of the Children's Depression Inventory(CDI) to all children. Results : The final QOL-CPD was constructed by excluding those items with a factor loading of less than .20, and the principal axis factor analysis was performed again. The QOLCPD demonstrated a good internal consistency with a value of .87. The dialysis and childpsychiatric groups showed significantly lower QOL scores compared to the healthy control group. In addition, the dialysis and child-psychiatric groups showed greater difficulties on physical and academic functions. For the CDI, the PD group showed a mild level of depression. Conclusion : The results of this study demonstrate the clinical utility of a newly developed self-report QOL scale specific for children on chronic PD.

An Exploratory Study on the Children for Poverty Housing (아동 주거빈곤 정책 마련을 위한 탐색적 연구)

  • The government has switched the purpose of housing policy, from the 'housing supply' to 'housing welfare', with the Housing Laws established in 2015 under evaluation that resident stability and resident standard were improved. But, as 'affordable' housing is gradually decreasing, residential environment has become more poor. Residential environment is a basic element for the child safety, health, and better education. This study explored that the poor resident environment had effect on the child, figured out the situation on housing poverty of domestic child and searched the situation of the residential policy of domestic and foreign child. The main results are as follows. First, the poor resident environment of childhood has a bad effect on the physical health, mental health, academic achievement and cognitive development. Second, 1.29 million children (11.9%) are living in condition of housing poverty below minimum resident standard and are concentrated in certain areas. Third, the policy on housing poverty of domestic child is almost absent and focuses on the elderly, young people. this study discussed political and practical solutions based on these research results. On the basis of these research results, as policy suggestions we proposed housing policy making based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, evidence-based housing policy enforcement and, residential policy suggestions under the responsibility of central government, and as practical suggestions community working as the subject and related agency's solidarity from prevention activity of housing poverty and child advocacy point and we discussed way for issue and analyzed related laws, policies, commitments.

CD-ROM Development for '8051 Microprocessor' Unit Teaching-Learning in Electronics Circuit Practice Subject of Technical High School (공업계 고등학교 전자 회로 실습교과에서 '8051 마이크로프로세서' 단원의 교수-학습을 위한 CD-ROM 개발)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop CD-ROM so that students can understand 8051 Microprocessor unit easily in electronics circuit practice subject of technical high school. The study gives students, who have difficulties in learning, a chance for self-directed and supplementary learning by suggesting interface process with 8051 Practice Kit. To achieve these purposes, literature survey, collecting textbooks and materials, development of CD-ROM were gradually carried out. Each steps were as follows: Firstly, in literature survey, concepts and characteristics of multimedia and application to class were reviewed. Secondly, text contents on 8051 Microprocessor unit were analyzed, main contents were extracted and graphic, sound, animation were made. It was consisted of eight basic learning subjects, and designed to flow systematically. In this study, we presented a kind of teaching-learning material by developing CD-ROM in 8051 microprocessor unit in electronics circuit practice subject as a central matter. This material will be able to help technical high school students in learning

Differences in Personality Characteristics between Gifted and Normal Children (영재아동과 일반아동의 성격 특성의 차이 분석)

  • The purpose of the study was to find out differences in personality characteristics between gifted and normal children and also to find out differences in personality characteristics between gifted boys and gifted girls. Three hundred and forty-five children(108 gifted children, 237 normal children), who were forth to sixth grade children, were taken the Children's NEO Personality Inventory(Big five traits and 17 facets). The results were as follos; 1. There are statistically significant differences in personality characteristics between the gifted and the normal children. The gifted children have higher tendency of openness, extraversion, conscientiousness, lower neuroticism than the normal children. There is no difference in agreeableness between the gifted and the normal children. In the subfactors(facets) of neuroticism, the gifted children have lower tendency of anxiety, hostility, depression, shyness, attention deficit than the normal children. In the subfactors of extraversion, the gifted children have higher tendency of assertiveness, gregariousness, cheerfulness than the normal children. In the subfactors of openness, the gifted children have higher tendency of fantasy, creativity, physical activity, high intellectual ability, flexibility, reactivity than the normal children. In the subfactors of agreeableness, the gifted were more warmth and altruism than the normal children. In the subfactors of conscientiousness, the gifted children have higher tendency of competence, achievement motivation, deliberation, dutifulness than the normal children. 2. There were no statistically significant differences in personality characteristics between the gifted girls and the gifted boys. In the subfactors of neuroticism the gifted boys have higher tendency of shyness than the gifted girls. In the of subfactors of extraversion, the gifted boys have lower tendency of sensation- seeking than the gifted girls. In the subfactors of openness, the gifted boys have higher tendency of intellectual ability than the gifted girls.

An Evaluation of the Student Performance and Perception of the Food and Nutrition Subject in the Elementary School Curriculum in Incheon, Korea (실과의 식품영양 단원에 관한 교사 학생의 인지 및 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능간의 상관 연구 -인천직할시 공립국민학교를 중심으로-)

  • 본 연구는 국민학교 실과 과목의 식품 영양 단원에 관한 교사, 학생의 인지 및 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능 평가를 위하여 71개 인천시내 공립 국민학교 4,5,6학년 교사 510명과 12개교학생 1,754명을 대상으로 설문조사를 통한 내용을 분석한 것으로 연구의 목적은 1)실과의 정해진 교육목표에 관한 교사의 인지정도 규명 2)식품, 영양 단원에서 교사가 중요하다고 인지하는 내용과 가르치기에 어려움을 느끼는 내용 규명 3)교사가 인지하는 식품영양 단원학습을 증진하기 위한 요소 4) 학생들이 흥미를 느끼는 내용 5)본 단원 학습 후 학생의 지식, 태도, 기능 정도 6)지식, 태도 기능간의 상호 상관관계 규명 등이며 그 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 1. 교사들이 인지하는 실과의 정해진 교육목표는 거의 모두가 중요한 것으로 나타났다. 2. 교사들이 인지하는 식품 영양 단원의 중요한 내용은 영양과 질병과의 관계, 식품위생, 식품저장 등이며, 가장 중요하지 않은 내용으로는 영양 필요량이었다. 또한, 지도에 어려움을 느끼는 내용은 영양 필요량, 조리준비, 식품구성/함유량 등이며 어려움을 느끼지 않는 내용은 영양과 질병과의 관계, 식품위생, 식품저장 등이었다. 3. 교사가 인지하는 단원 학습 증진을 위한 긍정적 요소는 적합한 실습설비와 자료, 시청가자료등이었고 부정적 요소는 남교사, 실험 실습이 필요한 부분은 숙제로 미루는 것 등이었다. 4. 학생들이 흥미를 느끼는 내용으로는 간단한 음식 만들기, 영양소의 기능, 영양문제 등이었고, 쥬스나 차 준비, 조리연료, 부엌용구 사용법 등은 흥미를 느끼지 못하는 내용이었다. 5. 학생의 학업성취 중 지식은 4학년이 식품위생, 기초식품군이, 5학년은 알맞은 조리용구, 조리원리, 6학년은 여가활용의 뜻, 올바른 예절 등이 90% 이상 바르게 답하였고 5학년의 삶은 달걀의 화학적 변화, 감자의 주된 영양 등은 60%이하였다. 6 태도 테스트 결과는 5학년이 4,6학년보다 약간 높은정도(Mn=3.653) 였으나 기능테스트에서는 4학년이 5,6학년보다 약간 낮게 (Mn=3.0) 나타났다(구체적인 것은 본문 참조). 7, 4, 5, 6학년 모두 지식, 태도 기능 간에 정적 상관을 나타내었는데 특히 태도와 기능 사이에는 4학년 r=.7166, 5학년 r=.5175, 6학년 r=.6796을 나타내었고 지시과 태도(4학년 r=.1546, 5학년 r=.0872, 6학년 r=.2192)와 지식과 기능사이에서는 (4학년 r=.1631, 5학년 r=.0585, 6학년 r=.2521)태도와 기능간보다 약한 상관관계를 보였다.

The Recognition Comparison for the Utilization State of Smart Devices and Culinary Education Application Development of High School Students (고등학생의 스마트 기기 활용 실태와 조리교육 애플리케이션 개발에 대한 인식 비교 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze the utilization state of smart devices and the recognition level of educational application development of the general high school and the specialized high school. Specialized high school students preferred the utilization of smart devices more and daily spent on the devices more time than general high school students. As for the learning field, language for the general high school and the certificate of qualification for the specialized high school were shown high. The merit of smart device utilization is the use of spare time and its infrastructure was most required. The most expected content is a video lecture for the general high school and cooperative learning for the specialized high school and the most satisfied point was mobility. The specialized high school students feel more necessity about the application development for culinary education and had a plan to utilize it more and more preferred practice videos. As for the food development areas, the general high school students hoped simple food and the specialized high school students did cooking technician food and they both hoped the application to be uploaded in portal sites and the department homepage. The application development for culinary education is required to focus simulation learning including practice videos and cooking recipes and add an evaluation function to check the academic achievement levels. It is required to provide the subject goals of each course and concrete information on solving problems. Contents including video, music, texts need to be attached to improve learning immersion. There should be the beginning and development of a lesson and the flow of arrangement and communication between main bodies of learning should be improved by utilization of SNS cooperative learning services.

A Study on the Recognition of Elementary School Teachers about Mathematical Descriptive Tests and Their Practices (초등 교사들의 수학과 서술형 평가에 대한 인식 및 실태)

  • In this study, we analyzed teachers' recognitions of the necessity of mathematical descriptive tests and their practices in the elementary schools. We then suggested several examples of improved formats of the mathematical descriptive evaluation. For analyzing teachers' recognitions and practices of mathematical descriptive assessment, we surveyed 104 elementary school teachers in Seoul. We collected the test items from the schools and analyzed them to find how they are practiced in the schools. The results were as follows. First, most elementary school teachers are basically recognizing the direction and the purpose of mathematical descriptive assessment. Second, the ratio of the descriptive test items was very low compared with the teachers' recognition of necessity of including descriptive items in the tests. Third, the teachers usually made the descriptive items with their colleagues using textbooks, test manuals for teachers, and the references that the office of education provided. Fourth, to enhance teachers' understanding of descriptive assessment, systematic training programs for teachers about the descriptive assessment should be continued. Finally, the office of education and research institutes should provide various types of test items and more teacher training programs on descriptive assessments.

Sustaining Effect of Reading Comprehensive Strategy Program for Underachieving Gifted Students (중학교 미성취영재를 위한 읽기 이해 전략 프로그램 효과의 지속성 탐색)

  • This study examines the sustaining power of program effects of Reading Comprehensive Strategy Program, for underachieving gifted students in middle schools, which was developed and applied by Choi(2015). The study was a kind of follow up study of Choi(2015) as this study traced and collected all data from the same samples that Choi(2015) used since Choi(2015) stopped his program and data collection from 31 participants for 9 to 12 months. As the results, Among 11 subjects, who overcome underachievement through Choi(2015)'s Reading Comprehensive Strategy Program, 5 subjects could consistently maintained their performance level. However, 3 subjects could not maintain their performance and went back to the underachieving level, and another 3 showed instability as they went up and down around the border line. And among 20 subjects, who could not help the underachieving level through Choi(2015)'s program, 5 subjects could reach the achieving level. But 15 subjects still remained in their underachieving level. In conclusion, we may say that at least 16.1%(5 among 31) of underachieving gifed students could overcome their underachiving issue by Choi(2015)'s program even in the most pessimistic view, and 51.6%(16 amoung 3) in the most optimistic view. After all, at least about 50% cases could not be explained only by cognitive factors such as absence of reading comprehensive strategy. We suggest that we should handle the underachieving issues of gifted students by more comprehensive approaches.
