Analysis of Electromagnetic Wave Scattering From a Perfectly Conducting One Dimensional Fractal Surface Using the Monte-Carlo Moment Method (몬테칼로 모멘트 방법을 이용한 1차원 프랙탈 완전도체 표면에서의 전자파 산란 해석)

  • In this paper, the scattered field from a perfectly conducting fractal surface by the Monte-Carlo moment method was computed. An one-dimensional fractal surface was generated by using the fractional Brownian motion model. Back scattering coefficients are calculated with different values of the spectral parameter(S$\_$0/), and fractal dimension(D) which determine characteristics of the fractal surface. The number of surface realization for the computed field, the point number, and the width of surface realization are set to be 80, 2048, and 64L, respectively. In order to verify the computed results these results are compared with those of small perturbation methods, which show good agreement between them.

  • This article involves the application of the fractal geometry to interfacial electrochemistry. Especially, we gave our attention to impedance behaviour of the fractal electrode. First, this article briefly explained the constant phase element (CPE) in electrochemical impedance and the do Levie's transmission line model. Second, we introduced the Nyikos and Pajkossy's theoretical works to approach the CPE phenomena using the fractal geometry. Finally this article presented other various fractal models for analysing the ac response of the rough electrodes.

A one-dimensional fractal surface was generated by using the fractional Brownian motion model. Back scattering coefficients are calculated with different values of the spectral parameter(S0), fractal dimension(D) which determine characteristics of the fractal surface. The number of surface realization for the computed field, the point number, and the width of surface realization are set to be 80, 1024, 16λ, respectively.   • The grass is one of important components that cover the wide surfaces in the application such as game or real time simulation. Actually, it not easy to render effectively numerous grasses that grow over the wide terrain. To solve the difficulty, we must find a solution to the two contradictions in terms : quality and calculation cost. As a solution to the above-mentioned task, in this paper, we propose an efficient method to represent the natural grasses by introducing fractal theory and instancing technique. Although the existing grass representation methods make use of a simple rule of applying a basic grass model repeatedly in rendering process, on the contrary we take advantage of the basic property of fractal's self-similarity and we devise a natural representation method suited to the given environment by introducing two important growth factors such as nature of terrain and quantity of light, and finally we apply a GPU-based shader instancing technique to rendering numerous grass models in real-time.

  • In the past, most of battle occurred in flatland and simple military force size gave a big influence in combat result. However, after the World War I, most of battles took place at the various terrain features such as forest, downtown, jungle and many others. Therefore, terrain factor exerts big influence on battle with weapon system in the ground warfare. However, effect of terrain has been explained only by quantitative manner in the battle. Furthermore, combat simulation and modeling applied a method that lower the combat capability of battle factors. In this paper, we present instrumentation that evaluate impact of terrain using fractal dimension. We determine the fractal dimension value by the "box counting dDimension" and density to calculate impact of terrain. Furthermore, we analyzed correlation with fractal dimension and density for battle result that obtained from the EINSTein model which is an agent-based simulation. We compare with 'Stalingrad battle' result out of battle example and analyzed. This study presented a method combat effectiveness that effect of terrain calculate quantitatively using fractal dimension.

  • In this paper, a hybrid model is developed, which can estimate scattering properties of a target embedded inside a forest. The model uses a physic-based channel model for a forest to accurately calculate the penetrated field through a forest canopy. The channel model is based on a fractal tree geometry and single scattering theory. To calculate scattering from the target physical optics(PO) is used to compute an induced current on the target surface since the dimension of the target is generally very large and the shape is very complicated. Then using reciprocity theorem, scattering generated by the PO current is calculated without an extra computational complexity.

  • Direct3D is a recently developed 3D graphic accelerator such that we could make a Windows graphic programs with Direct3D easily. This paper presents the fractal terrain model viewer developed in terms of Direct3D. The object classes and the input dialog box used the model viewer, program initializing process, and the flow of the model viewer are discussed. Finally, the output of terrain formulation in wire-frame, solid, and point type form are presented. To show the results, the data of a terrain model were made by a fractal technique, the midpoint displacement methods with square lattices of points.

Basic Analysis on Fractal Characteristics of Cement Paste Incorporating Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag (고로슬래그 미분말 혼입 시멘트 페이스트의 프랙탈 특성에 관한 기초적 분석)

  • This study aimed to conduct the basic analysis on the fractal characteristics of cementitious materials. The pore structure of cement paste incorporating ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) was measured using mercury intrusion porosimetry (MIP) and the fractal characteristics were investigated using different models. Because the pore structure of GGBFS-blended cement paste is an irregular system in the various range from nanometer to millimeter, the characteristics of pore region in the different scale may not be adequately described when the fractal dimension was calculated over the whole scale range. While Zhang and Li model enabled analyzing the fraction dimension of pore structure over the three divided scale ranges of micro, small capillary and macro regions, Ji el al. model refined analysis on the fractal characteristics of micro pore region consisting of micro I region corresponding to gel pores and micro II region corresponding to small capillary pores. As the pore size decreased, both models suggested that the pore surface of micro region became more irregular than macro region and the complexity of pores increased.

Effective Fractal-Based Coding of Color Image Using YIQ Model (YIQ 모델을 이용한 칼라 영상의 효율적인 프랙탈 기반 부호화)

  • Fractal-based monochrome image coding method can be easily applied for color image compression by splitting the color image into different primary spectral channels such as RGB, YIQ or $YC_bC_r$, and encoding each channel independently According to this method, it needs to repeat the fractal coding for each channel, so it have the problem of encoding time. In this paper, a fractal-based coder for color still image is proposed which features the enhancement of compression rate and the reduction of coding time. As the result of the experiment where the proposed algorithm is applied far color images, the compression rate is enhanced by 28 : 1 above with average PSNR value $28{\sim}29[dB]$, do not lossless encoding process using JPEG. And the encoding time is reduced by maximum 11.5 %.

Fractals in the Spreading of Drifters: Observation and Simulation (표류부표 분산의 프랙탈 성질: 관측 및 시뮬레이션)

  • We examined the temporal characteristics of the oceanic eddy diffusion at 5 coastal regions of Korea by measuring the separation distances of multiple drifters released simultaneously at the same by the GPS and Decca transponder system. The observed variance of separation distance, for the time scales from minutes to hours, is proportional to t/SUP m/ with scaling exponent m between 1.2 and 2.0. The observed Lagrangian trajectories of drifters show fractal characteristics instead of random walk or Brown motion. As an effort toward a development of a realistic model of the oceanic eddy diffusion, we simulated the Lagrangian trajectories of drifters by fractional Brown motion (FBM) model. The observed variances of drifter separations can be generated by the FBM process provided the Hurst exponent is the same as the observed one. We further showed that the observed power law in the variance of drifter separations cannot be simulated with an ordinary Brown motion or random walk process.
