  • The purpose of this study is to verify if there is any difference on researchers' language preference for citing documents in different subject fields. 8 scientific journals were selected one of each from 8 main categories, given by National Research Foundation of Korea. Five variables including the rate of citing domestic and foreign documents for each journals were choose, and the differences on language preference among researchers of different subject fields were checked by implementing ANOVA. As a result, there are some differences on language preference, in terms of the average number and percentage of foreign documents, among researchers, based on their subject background. It also found that 8 subject categories divided into 4 small clusters.

  • This study is aimed at investigating if there were the differences on citing behavior of researchers among different fields of engineering, in terms of five items, such as types of resources cited, the average number of documents cited, the demand of current documents, languages used in cited documents, and the life decrease phenomena of information. 29,160 cited references in 2,333 articles from 4 major selected journals, published in the year of 1999, 2001, and 2003 were analyzed. The result of this study shows that there were the differences on citing behavior of researchers among different fields of engineering on all 5 items. And also, some suggestions were given the priority of library collection and shelf arrangement for the library.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the usability and the value of Web resources as an academic information in writing a paper by citation analysis. In this study each articles from five academic journals in the field of LIS and computers, published from 1999 to 2000, was selected for citation analysis. The result shows that articles in Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management cited the most, and Korea Information Processing Society Review the least, in terms of average number of citing Web resources. In respect of citing rate of Web resources Communications of the Korea Information Science Society was high to 22% of all cited documents, and Journal of the Korean Society for Information Management was the second as high as 18.5%. Articles from selected journals have been increased in citing Web resources form 1999 to 2002. However, Korea Information Processing Society Review appears to be decreased, instead.

  • This paper analyzed tendency of research of articles published in the Journal of Shipping and Logistics from Vol. 51 to Volume 60. The results of the analysis are as the following: First, the subjects mainly researched in shipping and in logistics are port economics/management and logistics management/operation in the proportion of 35.0% and 13.7%, respectively. Second, university professors carry out research more actively than other research groups. Third, quantitative analyses are more often used than qualitative analyses for research method. Finally, Korean literatures and English literatures are used at the same rate for reference. In conclusion, for the development of the Journal of Shipping and Logistics, the subjects should be diversified, systematic collaboration between educational and industrial circles is required. and cooperation with foreign academies should be continued.

  • Purpose : We tried to check the accuracy of references in the Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society and Journals of the Korean Pediatric Subspecialty Societies. We also wanted to know the citation patterns of authors by analyzing the frequency of cited materials. Methods : Three journals were randomly selected from the 2000 issues of Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society and nine journals were selected mainly from the second half of 2000 issues of each Journal of the Korean Pediatric Subspecialty Societies for the study. Then the accuracy of references was checked with Medline. Journals before 1964, books, and journals which were not written in English were used only in the citation pattern analysis. Results : Author errors were the most common(21.3%) among the reference elements. The next was title errors, followed by page errors, journal errors, volume errors and year errors. Total average error rate was 34.7% and we were unable to find journals in 89 cases(2.2%). The journal of the Korean Society of Neonatology had the lowest error rate(17.4%) and the journal of the Korean Pediatric Cardiology Society had the highest error rate(53.2%). The reference journals which were published and quoted in the most recent three years were only 612 cases(15%). Foreign journals were selected as reference(78.4%) more than domestic journals; The Journal of the Korean Pediatric Society was the most frequently cited reference(43.3%) among domestic journals. Conclusion : Authors are ultimately responsible for the accuracy of references and they should check the reference list with responsibility. Hopefully, authors also will have to use more domestic journals and recent journals.
