  • In order to achieve systematical method for improving motion accuracy of hydrostatic table, an algorithm using finite element method is proposed in this paper. Quantification of averaging effect of oil film on motion error is performed theoretically by analysis on the relationship between spacial frequency of rail form error and motion error of table. Influences of film stiffness and pocket size on the motion error of table are also analyzed theoretically. Validity of the algorithm is verified experimentally from the test on the motion error of table with three types of rail which have different form profile. Experimental results show that the algorithm is very effective to analyze theoretically the motion error of hydrostatic table.

  • A quasi depth-varying mathematical model for wind-generated circulation in coastal areas, expressed in terms of the depth-averaged horizontal velocity components and free surface elevation was validated and used to understand the diurnal circulation process. The wind velocity is considered as a dominant factor for driving the wind generated current. In this paper, three dimensional numerical experiments that included the land topography were used to investigate the mesoscale air flow over the coastal regions. The surface temperature of the inland was determined through the surface heat budget consideration with inclusion of a layer of vegetation. A series of numerical experiments were then carried out to investigate the diurnal response of the air flow and wind-generated circulation to various types of surface inhomogeneities.

  • Motion errors of linear motion guideway are analyzed theoretically in this paper. For the analysis, an new algorithm predicting motion errors of bearing and guideway is proposed using the Hertz's elastic deformation theory. Accuracy averaging effect can be calculated quantitatively by analyzing relationship between motion errors of guideway and spatial frequency of rail form error. Influences of design parameters on the motion errors including the number of balls, preload, ball diameter, bearing length and the number of bearings are analyzed. As it is difficult to measure the rail form error, experimental results are compared with results analyzed by the equivalent analysis method which evaluate the motion errors of guideway using the measured errors of bearing. From the experimental results, it is confirmed that the proposed analysis method it effective lo analyze the motion errors of linear motion bearing and guideway.

  • For effective noise removal prior to video processing, noise power or noise variance of an input video sequence needs to be found exactly, but it is actually a very difficult process. This paper presents an accurate noise variance estimation algorithm based on motion compensation between two adjacent noisy pictures. Firstly, motion estimation is performed for each block in a picture, and the residue variance of the best motion-compensated block is calculated. Then, a noise variance estimate of the picture is obtained by adaptively averaging and properly scaling the variances close to the best variance. The simulation results show that the proposed noise estimation algorithm is very accurate and stable irrespective of noise level.

  • In this paper, we present an efficient image reconstruction method which is suited to remove various noise generated from measurement using X-ray attenuation. To be specific, we present a wavelet method to efficiently remove ring artifacts, which are caused by inevitable mechanical error in X-ray emitters and detectors. and streak artifacts, which are caused by general observation errors and Fourier transform-based reconstruction process. To remove ring artifacts related noise from projections, we suggest to estimate the noise intensity by using the fact that the noise related to ring artifacts has a strong correlation in the angle direction, and remove them by using wavelet shrinkage. We also suggest to use wavelet-vaguelette decomposition for general-purpose noise removal and image reconstruction. Through simulation studies. we show that the proposed method provides a better result in ring artifact removal and image reconstruction over the traditional Fourier transform-based methods.

  • In this study, the effect of the shape error of a guideway on the movement of a stage that uses an air bearing is analyzed. The shape error of moving parts supported by the air bearing is known not to affect the vibrations of moving parts as much as the magnitude of the shape error. This is called the "averaging effect." In this study, the effect of shape error on a guideway, as well as the averaging effect of an air-bearing system, is analyzed theoretically using a dynamic-analysis program. The dynamic-analysis program applies a commercially available code in COMSOL and solves the Reynolds equation between the stage and the guideway, along with the equation of motion of the stage. The stage is modeled as a two-degree-of-freedom system. The shape error is applied to the film thickness function in the form of a sine wave. The stage movement is analyzed using the fast Fourier transform process. The eccentricity and tilting are found to be proportional to the amplitude of the shape error of the guideway. Stage vibrations are less than 10% of the amplitude of the shape error on the guideway. This means that the averaging effect of the air bearing is verified quantitatively. Moreover, if the air supply position matches the shape error in the guideway, there is a notable change in eccentricity and tilting.

  • Temperature-related cleavage rates and mitotic intervals (${\tau}_o$) in the far eastern catfish Silurus asotus were studied by averaging the duration of the second and third embryonic divisions to establish effective procedures for chromosome manipulations. At higher temperatures eggs developed faster and underwent more asynchronous development. Mitotic intervals for far eastern catfish were $21.5{\pm}1.4$ min at $22^{\circ}C$, $18.5{\pm}1.2$ min at $24^{\circ}C$, and $14.0{\pm}2.1$ min at $26^{\circ}C$. There was a strong negative correlation between ${\tau}_o$ and water temperature (Y=-1.85X+21.9, $R^2=0.9868$, where Y is ${\tau}_o$ and X is temperature).

  • In this paper, a novel approach to using Subcircuit of Pspice in designing feedback for DC-DC converter systems is proposed. Proposed new approach, the feedback design procedures which are based on small signal modeling are programmed as a subcircuit in Pspice. For this purpose, Analog Behavioral Modeling (ABM) is used. By using the subcircuit, the component values of the error compensation amplifier can be easily obtained by means of Pspice DC analysis. The methodology of development is presented in detail and application examples demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach in designing feedbacks for DC-DC converters. The converter with PWM method used continuous current mode and calculated buck converter control signal with average and linear current technique. To decide pole and zero K-method was adapted and this kind of design procedure took stable function.

  • Localization of concrete is a phenomenon such that the deformation of concrete is localized in finite region with softening behavior and it governs ultimate load of concrete. In this Paper, concrete under strain localization was modeled with localization region and non-localization region and lc~calization behavior was formulated based on averaging concept of heterogeneous material. By using the formulation, the localization phenomena of concrete under uniaxial loadings were well predicted. The analytical results show that size of localization region of concrete under uniaxial compression is three times of maximum aggregate size and the size effect of concrete is well predicted. The use of tension-softening curve obtained from direct tension test is suitable for well prediction of localization of concrete under uniaxial tension.

  • This paper describes a novel multiplexing scheme for delay-sensitive multiple VBR-coded bit streams in live multimedia service offered to high-speed networks. The primary goal of multiplexing in this paper is to keep delay limits of each bit streams and to enhance network resource utilization when they no multiplexed and transmitted over network. For this aim, this paper presents a dynamical control scheme which does not cause violation of any delay constraints to each bit steam. The scheme is based on the assumption that recent behavior of the each bit scream has high correlation with near-term future behavior. Such property is used to make as flat as possible by both temporal averaging on a stream-by-stream and spatial averaging is introduced when multiple VBR-coded bit streams are multiplexed. The effectiveness of the scheme is evaluated by several simulation using an MPEG-coded video trace of Star_wars and it is shown that the proposed scheme can effectively reduce the feat rate md coefficient of variation of the multiplexed transmission rate.
