Evaluation for the Introduction Impact of an Integrated Railway Wireless Network : A Case Study of the Wonju-Gangneung Rail Line (철도통합무선통신망 도입효과의 평가 -원주-강릉구간에 대한 사례를 중심으로-)

  • This study performs an evaluation, using the economic feasibility analysis method, of the LTE based railway wireless networks (LTE-R) service that is planned to be used for the future railway networks in Korea. Its objectives are using the evaluation results and working to reflect the factors that lead to a maximization of benefits in designing an integrated railway wireless network. This study analyzes the impact of implementing an LTE-R on the railway networks, in contrast to the existing wireless network methods, e.g. VHR and TRS to new rail lines on an economic view. This results found that the benefit cost ratio is greater than 1.0 with a 10% contribution to benefits of the wireless network service in the case study on the Wonju-Gangneung rail line that will start operations in 2018; as a result, an ICT design is desired. For the introduction of an LTE-R service for the Wonju-Gangneung rail line, design specifications need to increase to benefits for each service, which will verify actual contributions and therefore result in an overall economic effect.

  • As the end of photolithographic integration era is approaching fast, numerous nanoscale devices and systems based on novel nanoscale materials and assembly techniques are recently emerging. Notably, various reconfigurable architectures with considerable promise have been proposed based on nanowire crossbar structure as the primitive building block. Unfortunately, high-density sys-tems consisting of nanometer-scale elements are likely to have numerous physical imperfections and variations. Therefore, defect-tolerance is considered as one of the most exigent challenges in nanowire crossbar systems. In this work, three different defect-avoidant logic mapping algorithms to circumvent defective crosspoints in nanowire reconfigurable crossbar systems are evaluated in terms of various performance metrics. Then, a novel method to find the most cost-effective repair solution is demonstrated by considering all major repair parameters and quantitatively estimating the performance and cost-effectiveness of each algorithm. Extensive parametric simulation results are reported to compare overall repair costs of the repair algorithms under consideration and to validate the cost-driven repair optimization technique.

  • Globally, intelligent vehicles and telematics research and development through the integration of IT technology in the vehicle are significant increasing. Real-time data communication for intelligent transportation system (ITS) is very important. It collects real-time data from the vehicle and provides the information collected from ITS center. We propose an effective and secure communication scheme for these communication procedures. In particular, our proposed SIP-based MVPN reduces signaling cost and has many advantages in security aspects. In addition, our proposed scheme performs the mobility management applying NEMO (Network Mobility) for the communication between the vehicles. In other words, we propose an ITS communication mechanism of SIP-based mobile VPN and V2V NEMO. Finally, our performance analysis show that the ITS of SIP-based MVPN is significantly reducing the handoff signaling cost.

  • This paper proposes the development model of the aerodrome traffic control simulator (ATCS) System for the domestic airport. The application of the ATCS is used as a OJT training function for the air traffic controller and research function for a new control procedure. In order to perform those functions, we classified the ATCS in three types such as education, research and integrated management system, and the ATCS types analysed by the working and OJT training condition in domestic airport. Therefore, we proposed the ATCS models such as uniform type, differential type, and center type, and analysed the merits and demerits of the proposed models. Also we looked up ATCS's application in terms of the building and maintenance costs, operational utilization and scalability. So, we proposed the differential type which was suitable for the developing ATCS for the domestic airports.

  • Wireless network using dynamic IP and mobile IP technology provides the user with convenience of access and movement. However, this causes the attacker who disguises normal user(pretending to be a regular user) to have more opportunity in regard to access and acquisition of information. This paper help the network administrator and the service provider quickly to recognize the attacker's intention to access network and service. Therefore network administrator and service provider can specify and respond the location of the attacker appropriately. To achieve above, we define an entity (W_L_M) that manages user information of WiFi and LTE network, and propose messages and procedures for attacker's location identification and alarm. The performance evaluation of this paper is based on qualitative analysis. By using the proposed method, some cost (message creation, processing and transmission) occurred but it was analyzed to be less than the total network operation cost. The proposal of this paper is a management method that utilizes existing network information and structure. This method can be used as a reference material to enhance security.

  • Korea Highway Corporation has played a role of the construction and operation of the highway for the past for 40 years. The private sector since the 90s has made highway construction and operation. Central government and local governments were paid at subsidy in least operating income to 1.5896 trillion won for private operators from 2001 to 2008. Thus, Korea Highway Corporation will have important implications for understanding the cost structure. Korea Highway Corporation, a general analysis of the input element is used efficiently. And the operation of labor and capital estimated highly of the substitution elasticities. Korea Highway Corporation are judged to need financial separation of a strategic outsourcing(business) enabled and the construction(maintenance and management) and business institutions. In addition, currently running at highway the operation of institutions combined to configure a new institution, if that institution invigorate the hi-pass, more of the country's highway believe to be increase operational efficiency.

  • The dynamics of business cycles has been changed by the macroscopic economic forces because of the introduction of new technical know-how each year. These the dynamics of business has a significant influence on the investment of enterprise in the information communication field. Today, the most important goal of the IT investment is simply not to lower the production cost any more, but to improve the usefulness for the customers and partners in order to obtain the optimized mass products. Therefore, the enterprises have been concentrating their all abilities on the automation, integration, and optimization of business process using BPM. In addition, they are concentrating their efforts on the business expansion by approaching the technical aspect using RFID application system. However, in order to accomplish a successful enterprise ability, the technical view, business process view, and organization view must be considered together. We suggested the method considering organization view, via the technical element, i.e., RFID system for approaching the business process. Furthermore, we tried the optimization of assignment using Context Analysis methodology and proposed the method to reduce the element with respect to the time, human, and expense by applying the Case Study method that minimizes the iteration times through the transmitted processing procedure and type. The proposed method gave us the expectation that it will bring out the innovative improvement with respect to the time, expense, quality, and customer's satisfaction in the process from the analysis of business process to the analysis and design of system.

Economies of Scale and Scope in the Korean Railway Industry: A Generalized Translog Cost Function Approach (일반초월대수 비용함수모형을 이용한 한국 철도산업의 규모 및 범위의 경제성 분석)

  • Using a generalized translog multiproduct cost function model, this paper examines economies of scale and scope in the vertically-integrated Korean railway industry. The paper then conceptualizes that the Korea National Railroad (KNR) produces four outputs (passenger-kilometers, ton-kilometers of freight, average length of passenger trips, and average length of freight haul) using three input factors(labor, fuel and maintenance, and rolling stock and capital). Using time series data collected from the KNR's annual records for the years from 1977 to 2002, the simultaneous equation system consisting of a cost function and two input share equatins is estimated with the Zellner's iterative seemingly unrelated regression. The findings show that the cost function corresponding to a non-Cobb-Douglas, non-homothetic, and non-homogeneous production technology adequately represents the KNR's cost structure. On the other hand, the Korean railway industry experiences sizeable overall scale economies, which result from substantial product-specific scale economies associated with passenger-kilometers and freight ton-kilometers and from scope economies associated with their joint production. In addition, the magnitude of economies of scope is influenced largely by the ratio of passenger trips, and has increased over time as the former has increased while the latter has decreased.

  • As the electric power industry is evolving into competitive market scheme, a new paradigm is required for the operation of market. Traditional dispatch algorithm was built based on the optimization model with an objective function and multiple constraints. Commercial market simulator followed the concept of the microeconomic model used in the dispatch algorithm, which is called as analytic method. On analytic method it is prerequisite to procure the exact data for the simulation. It is not easy anymore for each market participant to access to other participants' financial information while it used to be easy for monopoly decision maker to know all the information needed for the optimal operation. Considering the changing situation, it is required to introduce a new method for estimating the market price. This paper proposes an empirical method based on stochastic processes expected to build a capacity planning and long term contracts.

Factors that Need to be Overcome for Successful Integrated Marketing Communication (통합적 마케팅 커뮤니케이션의 성공적 실행을 위해 극복해야 할 요인에 대한 고찰)

  • How to facilitate Integrated Marketing Communication (IMC)? An approach to answer this question is to identify an organization's internal and external barriers to IMC and then to resolve them. Eight dimensions emerged from the factor analysis of the barrier items: organizational structure problem, department ego, lack of database, difficulty in analyzing effectiveness, lack of perception on consumer-oriented communication, increasing dependency on an agency, lack of agencies' expertise on IMC, and fear of budget reductions. With regression analyses, this study found that 'organizational structure problem' and 'lack of perception on consumer-oriented communication' were negatively related to IMC and that 'department ego', 'lark of perception on consumer-oriented Communication', 'organizational structure problem', and 'fear of budget reductions' were negatively related to the expectation of IMC usefulness. The findings indicate that organizations surveyed stay at a low level of IMC and urgently needs to resolve internal barriers rather than external ones in order to enhance IMC.
