  • In this paper, the dynamic model development for interplanetary navigation has been discussed. The Cowell method for special perturbation theories was employed to develop an interplanetary trajectory propagator including the perturbations due to geopotential, the Earth's dynamic polar motion, the gravity of the Sun, the Moon and the other planets in the solar system, the relativistic effect of the Sun, solar radiation pressure, and atmospheric drag. The equations of motion in dynamic model were numerically integrated using Adams-Cowell 11th order predictor-corrector method. To compare the influences of each perturbation, trajectory propagation was performed using initial transfer orbit elements of the Mars Express mission launched in 2003, because it can be the criterion to choose proper perturbation models for navigation upon required accuracy. To investigate the performance of dynamic model developed, it was tested whether the spacecraft can reach the Mars. The interplanetary navigation tool developed in this study demonstrated the spacecraft entering the Mars SOI(Sphere of Influence) and its velocity .elative to the Mars was less than the escape velocity of the Mars, hence, the spacecraft can arrive at the target planet. The obtained results were also verified by using the AGI Satellite Tool Kit. It is concluded that the developed program is suitable for supporting interplanetary spacecraft mission for a future Korean Mars mission.

  • 3D visualization of geological environments using remotely sensed data and the various sources of data provides new methodology to interpret geological observation data and analyze geo-information in earth science applications. It enables to understand spatio-temporal relationships and causal processes in the three-dimension, which would be difficult to identify without 3D representation. To build more realistic geological environments, which are useful to recognize spatial characteristics and relationships of geological objects, 3D modeling, topological analysis, and database should be coupled and taken into consideration for an integrated configuration of the system. In this study, a method for 3D visualization, extraction of geological data, storage and data management using remotely sensed data is proposed with the goal of providing a methodology to utilize dynamic spatio-temporal modeling and simulation in the three-dimension for geoscience and earth science applications.

  • A seagrass that is marine vascular plants plays an important role in the marine ecosystem, so periodic monitoring ofseagrass habitatsis being performed. Recently, the use of dronesthat can easily acquire very high-resolution imagery is increasing to efficiently monitor seagrass habitats. And deep learning based on a convolutional neural network has shown excellent performance in semantic segmentation. So, studies applied to deep learning models have been actively conducted in remote sensing. However, the segmentation accuracy was different due to the hyperparameter, various deep learning models and imagery. And the normalization of the image and the tile and batch size are also not standardized. So,seagrass habitats were segmented from drone-borne imagery using a deep learning that shows excellent performance in this study. And it compared and analyzed the results focused on normalization and tile size. For comparison of the results according to the normalization, tile and batch size, a grayscale image and grayscale imagery converted to Z-score and Min-Max normalization methods were used. And the tile size isincreased at a specific interval while the batch size is allowed the memory size to be used as much as possible. As a result, IoU was 0.26 ~ 0.4 higher than that of Z-score normalized imagery than other imagery. Also, it wasfound that the difference to 0.09 depending on the tile and batch size. The results were different according to the normalization, tile and batch. Therefore, this experiment found that these factors should have a suitable decision process.

  • This paper presented a method using past land cover maps in image segmentation and training set collection for updating land cover maps. In this method, the object boundaries in past land cover maps were used for segmenting image clearly. Also, the classes of past land cover maps were used to extract additional informative training set from the initial classification result using a small number of initial training set. To evaluate the applicability of proposed method, a case study for updating land cover maps was carried out using middle-level land cover maps and WorldView-2 image in the Taean-gun, South Korea. As a result of the case study, the confusions between urban and barren, paddy/dry field and grassland in the initial classification result were reduced by adding training set. In addition, the object segmentation using boundaries of past land cover map cleared land cover boundaries and improved classification accuracy. Based on the result of case study, the proposed method using past land cover maps is expected to be useful for updating land cover maps.

  • The objective of this paper is to analyze the spatial distribution of errors in the DEM generated using waterlines from multi-temporal remote sensing data and to assess flood vulnerability. Unlike conventional research in which only global statistics of errors have been generated, this paper tries to quantitatively analyze the spatial distribution of errors from a probabilistic viewpoint using geostatistical simulation. The initial DEM in Baramarae tidal flats was generated by corrected tidal level values and waterlines extracted from multi-temporal Landsat data in 2010s. When compared with the ground measurement height data, overall the waterline-based DEM underestimated the actual heights and local variations of the errors were observed. By applying sequential Gaussian simulation based on spatial autocorrelation of DEM errors, multiple alternative error distributions were generated. After correcting errors in the initial DEM with simulated error distributions, probabilities for flood vulnerability were estimated under the sea level rise scenarios of IPCC SERS. The error analysis methodology based on geostatistical simulation could model both uncertainties of the error assessment and error propagation problems in a probabilistic framework. Therefore, it is expected that the error analysis methodology applied in this paper will be effectively used for the probabilistic assessment of errors included in various thematic maps as well as the error assessment of waterline-based DEMs in tidal flats.

  • Nowadays, product recommendation is one of the important issues regarding both CRM and Internet shopping mall. Generally, a recommendation system tracks past actions of a group of users to make a recommendation to individual members of the group. The computer-mediated marketing and commerce have grown rapidly and thereby automatic recommendation methodologies have got great attentions. But the researches and commercial tools for product recommendation so far, still have many aspects that merit further considerations. To supplement those aspects, we devise a recommendation methodology by which we can get further recommendation effectiveness when applied to Internet shopping mall. The suggested methodology is based on web log information, product taxonomy, association rule mining, and decision tree learning. To implement this we also design and intelligent Internet shopping mall support system based on agent technology and develop it as a prototype system. We applied this methodology and the prototype system to a leading Korean Internet shopping mall and provide some experimental results. Through the experiment, we found that the suggested methodology can perform recommendation tasks both effectively and efficiently in real world problems. Its systematic validity issues are also discussed.

  • In this study, a novel land-cover classification framework for multi-temporal SAR data is presented that can combine multiple features extracted through data transforms and multiple classifiers. At first, data transforms using principle component analysis (PCA) and 3D wavelet transform are applied to multi-temporal SAR dataset for extracting new features which were different from original dataset. Then, three different classifiers including maximum likelihood classifier (MLC), neural network (NN) and support vector machine (SVM) are applied to three different dataset including data transform based features and original backscattering coefficients, and as a result, the diverse preliminary classification results are generated. These results are combined via a majority voting rule to generate a final classification result. From an experiment with a multi-temporal ENVISAT ASAR dataset, every preliminary classification result showed very different classification accuracy according to the used feature and classifier. The final classification result combining nine preliminary classification results showed the best classification accuracy because each preliminary classification result provided complementary information on land-covers. The improvement of classification accuracy in this study was mainly attributed to the diversity from combining not only different features based on data transforms, but also different classifiers. Therefore, the land-cover classification framework presented in this study would be effectively applied to the classification of multi-temporal SAR data and also be extended to multi-sensor remote sensing data fusion.

  • South Korea is a country that emits a large amount of pollutants as a result of population growth and industrial development and is also severely affected by transboundary air pollution due to its geographical location. As pollutants from both domestic and foreign sources contribute to air pollution in Korea, the location of air pollutant emission sources is crucial for understanding the movement and distribution of pollutants in the atmosphere and establishing national-level air pollution management and response strategies. Based on this background, this study aims to effectively acquire spatial information on domestic and international air pollutant emission sources, which is essential for analyzing air pollution status, by utilizing high-resolution optical satellite images and deep learning-based image segmentation models. In particular, industrial parks and quarries, which have been evaluated as contributing significantly to transboundary air pollution, were selected as the main research subjects, and images of these areas from multi-purpose satellites 3 and 3A were collected, preprocessed, and converted into input and label data for model training. As a result of training the U-Net model using this data, the overall accuracy of 0.8484 and mean Intersection over Union (mIoU) of 0.6490 were achieved, and the predicted maps showed significant results in extracting object boundaries more accurately than the label data created by course annotations.
