Thinking Styles and Their Relationship with Self-regulated Learning Ability and Scientific Inquiry Ability of the Scientifically Gifted Students (과학영재들의 사고양식과 자기조절학습능력 및 과학탐구능력간의 관계 분석)

  • This study examined the thinking styles of scientifically gifted students on the basis of Sternberg's theory of mental self-government, and the relationship between thinking styles and self-regulated learning ability of the students and their scientific inquiry ability by the different types of thinking styles. 110 middle school students who belonging to the university science-gifted education center participated in this study. 13 thinking styles were postulated that fall along 5 dimensions which are functions, forms, levels, scopes and leanings of the mental self-government. Scientifically gifted students responded to the Thinking Style Inventory (TSI) that standardized Korean version, Self-regulated Ability Inventory and Test of Science Inquiry Skills Inventory (TSIS). The results indicated that scientifically gifted students prefer legislative, liberal, external, hierarchical and judical thinking styles, rather than conservative style. This result also showed that subscales of thinking styles were significantly correlated with self-regulated learning ability and scientific inquiry ability. The legislative style, hierarchical style, local style and liberal style were significant predictors of self-regulation learning ability. The legislative style was significant predictor, whereas oligarchic style was negative predictor of scientific inquiry ability. The results of k-means clustering analysis and MANOVA showed that the self-regulated learning ability and scientific inquiry ability were significantly correlated with the pattern and level of thinking style.

J. J. Schwab's life and His Ideas of Science Education (슈왑의 생애와 과학교육 사상)

  • J. J. Schwab is usually considered as the founder of the concept of scientific enquiry, perhaps the most important key word of science education of the 20th century. Mainly through the method of literature review, this study reappraises Schwab's life as a science educator as well as a curriculum scholar, and his ideas concerning several important issues about science and science education. Like other eminent science educators, before the 1950s, who were originally talented scientists but later became engaged in educational activities, Schwab were trained and known as a genetic scientist, but later he concentrated on university reform, curriculum studies and science education. His academic interest was very diverse across different disciplines, from biology and science in general to history, philosophy and education. The essence of his theory of scientific enquiry was 'to teach science as science', and the best way to do it was 'to teach science as enquiry'. With enquiry, however, he tried to deliver some important but differentiated meanings, for example by distinguishing 'science as enquiry' and 'teaching as enquiry', and 'static enquiry' and 'fluid enquiry'. Scientific enquiry was the core concept upon which many of his ideas concerning science education and education in general were based, such as the diversity of science, textbooks, curriculum and roles of teachers. In summary, Schwab can be characterized as a rational reformist of science education, who tried to identify the very nature and goals of the discipline and to bring its substantial changes with concrete and practical guidelines. Nevertheless, some of his ideas, like the diversity of science and conceptual invention, have been handed down by his followers frequently with considerable distortion.

A Study on Science Teaching Orientation and PCK Components as They Appeared in Science Lessons by an Experienced Elementary Teacher: Focusing on 'Motion of Objects' and 'Light and Lens' (한 초등 경력교사의 과학수업에서 나타나는 과학 교수지향과 PCK 요소들 사이의 관련성 탐색 -물체의 운동과 빛과 렌즈 단원을 중심으로-)

  • This study aims at exploring the features of science teaching orientation (STO) and its relationships with other PCK (pedagogical content knowledge) components. To do this, based on the definition of STO by Friedrichsen, Driel, & Abell(2011) and PCK model by Magnusson, Krajcik, & Borko(1999), we observed one experienced elementary teacher's science lessons for 21 lesson hours (10 hours of 'Motion of Objects' and 11 hours of 'Light and Lens') and carried out qualitative analyses of the data obtained from lessons observation, teacher interviews, and CoRe (content representation) responses. We analyzed the teacher's three aspects of STO (i.e. beliefs about the goals and purpose of science teaching, beliefs about the nature of science, and beliefs about science teaching and learning) which can converge into an overall STO of 'inquiry'. And these aspects of STO appear to interact differently with four PCK components (i.e. curriculum knowledge, learner knowledge, instructional knowledge, and assessment knowledge) depending on the topic of the lesson. It is hoped that this in-depth understanding of the features of STO and its relationship with other PCK components would provide useful information on how to monitor and improve STO and PCK of elementary teachers.

  • 본 연구는 기본적으로 현대 디지털 사회에서의 게임의 공간 문제를 장소론적으로 해석하려는 목적을 갖고 있다. 디지털 게임에서의 공간과 장소성은 인류학적으로 보는 관점과는 어떠한 공통점과 차이점이 있는지를 탐구하여 게임의 비장소의 공간들이 어떻게 구현되고 장소적 특성을 보이고 있는지를 살펴봄으로써 장소론적 입장에서 게임공간을 연구하였다. 디지털 게임공간의 장소성에 관한 연구는 디지털게임을 이해하는데 있어 기존의 '매체 지향적 논의'들과 '서사중심'의 파편적인 논의를 통합하는 계기를 제공하고 다양한 방향으로서의 연구 가능성을 제시할 수 있으리라 본다.

미래 지향적 디스플레이 개발을 위한 양자점 기반의 발광소자 연구 현황

  • 양자점 발광소자를 이용한 다양한 미래 지향적 디스플레이 기술에 관하여 간략히 짚어보았다. 플렉시블 디스플레이부터 최근 이루어진 초박형 디스플레이, 스트레쳐블 디스플레이 등을 소개하였고 초박형 디스플레이의 경우 얇아진 두께로 인하여 얻어지는 많은 장점들을 살펴보았고, 스트레쳐블 디스플레이의 경우, 주름 형태의 소자부터 AC-EL 방식으로 양자점의 색 변환을 이용한 소자들을 살펴보았다. 아직까지 해결하고 탐구해야 할 주제들이 많이 있으며 실용화까지도 다소 많은 해야 할 일들이 남아있다. 또한, 향후 기대가 되는 다기능 발광소자에 관해서 살펴보았다. 기존의 구형의 코어/쉘 형태의 양자이라는 정형화된 생각을 넘어 새롭게 양자점을 디자인함으로써 새로운 응용에 대하여 제시할 수 있었다. 이러한 새로운 응용을 통해 4차산업에서도 필수적인 통신, 센서 등의 역할을 동시에 수행할 수 있는 신개념 디스플레이를 알아볼 수 있었다. 앞으로 미래 디스플레이, 차세대 디스플레이 분야 등에서 광학적, 화학적, 전기적 우수한 특성을 갖는 양자점을 적용시키는 연구는 점점 많아지고 중요한 역할을 할 것으로 기대되며 특히 전계발광 소자로써 응용을 위하여 많은 연구진이 힘을 쏟고 있다. 친환경 조성의 높은 광효율을 갖는 양자점을 제조하고, 소자 측면에서 본질적인 성능 향상이 무엇보다 중요하기도 하겠지만 이와 함께 미래 지향적인 디스플레이 기술로서 양자점을 새롭게 응용하고 다양하게 적용시켜 보는 일은 향후 우리 미래의 삶에 큰 변화를 가져다 줄 수 있는 중요한 일이 될 것이라고 조심스럽게 예측해 본다.

A Narrative Inquiry on the Retired Elderly Person's Library Use Experience (은퇴노인의 도서관 이용 경험에 관한 내러티브 탐구)

  • The purpose of this study is to comprehend the retired elderly person's experience of library using the narrative inquiry method proposed by Clandinin and Cornelly. I intended to grasp the details of the several changes that library use brings to the lives. It was also to examine the meanings of the experiences for their lives. For this purpose, three elderly retirees using public libraries in Seoul were selected as research participants. I interviewed their experiences and constructed field text from interview. Based on the field text, the story of the participants was reconstructed into research text which is form of novels, essays, and letters. Their experience in using libraries was interpreted as a source of regular life, fun and vitality, a treasure house for dreaming new life, a source of consolation to endure old age. And I found some common points within their narrative that they seek for a healthy life through reading books. The results of this study are expected to be useful for expanding the understanding of the public library's elderly users and to be used as basic data for service improvement.

The mediating effect of the structure supply chain orientation and the customer-oriented supply chain performance on the path between the supply chain orientation and the export performance in manufacturing SMEs (중소 제조기업의 공급사슬지향성과 수출성과의 경로에서 구조적 공급사슬지향성과 고객중심 공급사슬 성과의 매개효과)

  • This study build an integrated model of a relationship between the supply chain orientation(SCO), the performance of a supply chain management(SCM) and an export performance in a domestic manufacturing SMEs. Twelves hypotheses including the mediating effect of the structural SCO and the customer-focused performance of SCM were analyzed on the 212 SMEs. In the result of the analysis, the strategic SCO has a positive effect on the both of the SCO and the operational performance of the SCM. The structural SCO has a positive effect on the performance of the SCM. Also, the operational performance of the SCM has a positive effect on the export performance of SMEs. In the mediating effect, the structural SCO has a fully mediating effect between the strategic SCO and the customer-focused performance of SCM. In addition, it has a partial mediating effect on the relationship of the strategic SCO and the operational performance of the SCM. The operational performance of the SCM has a fully mediating effect between the structural SCO and the customer-focused performance of SCM.

The Concept of the Public as Agreement-oriented Discursive Political Participants and Critical Communication Studies in South Korea (동의에 지향된 담론적 정치 참여자로서의 공중 개념과 한국의 비판적 커뮤니케이션 연구)

  • This article examines not the term "the public" or "publics"-which has various meanings-but its particular meaning, which is a group of citizens who engage in political discussion and debate with fellow citizens in order to form shared understandings and common judgments with regard to contemporary affairs and public issues. The goal of this article is to show the importance of this concept in critical studies of media and society and to analyze how this concept has been accepted in South Korean critical communication studies. In this article, critical communication studies refer to communication studies that aim to explore social meanings of communication phenomena. This article argues that little attention has been paid to the concept of the public as agreement-oriented discursive political participants in South Korean critical communication studies.
