  • This study is a proposal for the positive application of collage techniques into the process of interior design. For that, we need to set up the appropriate definitions of collage and to analyze its properties as a creative design methode of that field, in the basis of the twentieth-century art history. The study is divided into three sections as follows: 1) The traces of collage in the art movements such as Cubism, Dada, Surealism, and Pop art will be researched in terms of art concepts, appearances and, properties. 2) The relationships between collage and the main ideas of those art movements, as mentioned above, will be discussed for proving that collage is such an effective techniques as to erdxxly Post-modem ideas. 3) The examples of collage techniques and their effects appearing in Post-modem interior spaces will be surveyed for the purpose of proving its abilities as a creative design methode in interior design. Further studies should be succeeded for suggesting practical and educational models of its application.

  • This study attempts, based on the premise that gender roles and identity is a social construct, to show how TV portrayal of the male has changed through the years with changes in time and society, from the traditional depiction of hegemonic masculinity and ideal manhood as supported by the patriarchal system. A narrative analysis was conducted on popular variety shows "Dad, Where Are We Going?" and "Superman Returns". The results showed that both TV shows created a new type of masculinity by centering the narrative on the traditionally female roles of child rearing and housekeeping, and recreating the traditional strict and authoritative father figure into a non-authoritative and emotionally expressive father. However, as 'child rearing' and 'housekeeping' is expressed as 'play', there are limitations in that the actual daily lives and hardship of women is excluded from the narrative.

  • The Study on the Film, as the one of the main fields in the cultural studies, has the significant meaning in analyzing our society in that culture represents the realities of the present society. Film is the metaphorically expressed text and the specific space where a variety of discourses cross. The director's social consciousness projected in the film must have the ultimate significance through the dialectic relation between the intention of the director and the interpretation of the audience, not through the his one-sided message to the audience. This paper focuses on the analysis of the movie 'The Host', which is evaluated to show the meaningful social phenomena related to 'disaster' among the recent movies in Korea. The Host which is characteristic of 'the open structure' can be referred to as the film reflecting the imperial order prevalent in the colonial society.

  • Contemporary era has witnessed a diversity of emotion and emotions being expressed through consumption. This paper examines the relationship between social paradigms and emotional design by means of literature study. In sections 2 and 3, I examine the prevalent social paradigms and the concept/development of emotional design. In section 4, I show the correspondence between social paradigms and specific types of emotional design. More specifically it is shown that "pluralism and decentrality" has led to fun design, individual design and participative design; "emotional revolution" has given rise to multi-sensory design, design with positive feelings, design with negative feelings and aesthetic design; "non-materialistic values" have their correspondence in design as performance and story-telling in design; and "organic worldview" finds its expression in ecological design with a wellness emphasis, and in interactive emotional design.

  • The objective of this study attempt to examine the prospect whether conventional catch-up theory is also applicable to knowledge intensive industry like Open Source Software(OSS), and the implication from this study can be working as a stepping stone for followers. To do this, we conducted Korean SW firm's interview, and examined U.S. firm's archivings and second source of informations by means of empirical study. We use the inflection point of paradigm shift and difference of technology regime as a framework for empirical study of catch-up process between U.S. and Korean OSS firms. We find that conventional catch-up theory is no more applicable to explain OSS firm's catch-up processes. We also identified the elements that will accelerate the catch-up processes more effectively from the comparison of technology regime between U.S. and Korean OSS firms. As a result, we diagnose the limitation of conventional catch-up theory and discuss the new technology regime which will, ironically, promote the catch-up processes from the condition of low appropriation.
