  • We studied on pseudo-range correction(PRC) modeling in order to improve differential GNSS(DGNSS) accuracy. The PRC is the range correction information that provides improved location accuracy using DGNSS technique. The digital correction signal is typically broadcast over ground-based transmitters. Sometimes the degradation of the positioning accuracy caused by the loss of PRC signals, radio interference, etc. To prevent the degradation, in this paper, we have designed a PRC model through polynomial curve fitting and evaluated this model. We compared two quantities, estimations of PRC using model parameters and observations from the reference station. In the case of GPS, the average is 0.1m and RMSE is 1.3m. Most of GPS satellites have a bias error of less than ${\pm}1.0m$ and a RMSE within 3.0m. In the case of GLONASS, the average and the RMSE are 0.2m and 2.6m, respectively. Most of satellites have less than ${\pm}2.0m$ for a bias error and less than 3.0m for RMSE. These results show that the estimated value calculated by the model can be used effectively to maintain the accuracy of the user's location. However;it is needed for further work relating to the big difference between the two values at low elevation.

  • To determine the position of receiver, the GPS (Global Positioning System) uses position information of satellites and pseudo ranges based on signals. These are reflected by surrounding structures and multipath errors occur. This paper proposes a method for multipath error reduction using digital images to enhance the accuracy. The goal of the study is to calculate the shielding environment of receiver using image processing and apply it to GPS positioning. The proposed method, firstly, performs a preprocessing to reduce the effect of noise on images. Next, it uses hough transform to detect the outline of building roofs and determines mask angles and permissible azimuth range. Then, it classifies the satellites according to the condition using the image processing results. Finally, base on point positioning, it computes the receiver position by applying a weight model that assigns different weights to the classified satellites. We confirmed that the RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) was reduced by 2.29m in the horizontal direction and by 15.62m in the vertical direction. This paper showed the potential for the hybrid of GPS positioning and image processing technology.

  • Many studies have been performed since the introduction of GPS in Korea. As a result, positioning using GNSS was fully proposed. On the other hand, most of these studies focused on accuracy but analytical studies on the GNSS status and the national GNSS infrastructure of Korea are lacking. In this study, the status of multi-constellation GNSS and National Geographic Information Institute's CORS (Continuous Operating Reference Station) were identified for the benefit and direction of GNSS infrastructure enhancement. As a result, it has been operating Multi-constellation GNSS, such as GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, COMPASS, and QZSS for surveying. In addition, improvement was presented by the number of satellites, precision, PDOP, etc. through the experiment about VRS and RTK using Multi-constellation GNSS. Upgrading the infrastructure for satellite surveying was identified as a priority consideration. In the future, if a Multi-constellation GNSS service is possible in VRS service, the satisfaction of public administration service will improve, which will contribute greatly to the advancement of a surveying infrastructure.

  • In the almost application parts, GNSS being used the primary navigation system on world-widely. However, some of nations attempt or deliberate to enhance current Loran system, as a backup to satellite navigation system because of the vulnerability to the disturbance signal. Loran interests in supplemental navigation system by the development and enhancement, which is called eLoran, and that consists of advancement of receiver and transmitter and of differential Loran in order to increase the accuracy of current Loran-C. A significant factor limiting the ranging accuracy of the eLoran signal is the ASF in the TOAs observed by the receiver. The ASF is mostly due to the fact that the ground-wave signal is likely to propagate over paths of varying conductivity and topography. This paper presents comparison results between the predicted ASF and the measured ASF in a southern east region of Korea. For predicting ASF, the Monteath model is used. Actual ASF is measured from the legacy Loran signal transmitted Pohang station in the GRI 9930 chain. The test results showed the repeatability of the measured ASF and the consistent characteristics between the predicted and the measured ASF values.

  • Although the needs for providing resilient PNT information are increasing, threats due to the intentional RFI or space weather change are challenging to resolve. eLoran, which is a terrestrial navigation system that use a high-power signal is considered as a best back-up navigation system. Depending on the user's environment in the eLoran system, the user may use one of E-field or H-field antennas. H-field antenna, which has no restriction on setting stable ground and is relatively resistant to noise of general electronic equipment, is composed of two loops, and shows anisotropic gain pattern due to the different measurement at the two loops. Therefore, the H-field antenna's phase estimation value of signal varies depending on its direction even at the static environment. The error due to the direction of the signal should be eliminated if the user want to estimate the own position more precisely. In this paper, a method to compensate the error according to the geometric distribution between the H-field antenna and the transmitting station is proposed. A model was developed to compensate the directional error of H-field antenna based on the signal generated from the eLoran signal simulator. The model is then used to the survey measurement performed in the land area and verify its performance.

  • The methods by turning circle test and maneuvering indices have been used to study and evaluate the maneuverability of a ship. However recently many studies utilizing the GPS are made on the measurement of the turning circle and in the fishery and hydrographic survey. In this paper, the author carried out the turning circle test using the differential GPS and dumb card together, and compared the data measured by them and analyzed the accuracies of them to obtain the utility basic ones on the measurement of the turning circle by the DGPS. The main results area s follows : 1) To check the accuracies of the GPS, the circling experiments of 50m radius by the DGPS were made on the ground. The accuracies of turning circle measured by the DGPS were found to be very high as the errors of 1.5m. 2) the turning circle by the DGPS could be measured very accurately, by the seed, rudder angle, starboard and port respectively. 3) The turning circle measured by the dumb card was found to be measured accurately as much as the DGPS, when using large rudder angle, the turning circle was large, the turning circle by the dumb car could not be measured accurately on account of large error of bearing of compass. 4) The tactical diameters by the DGPS in case of the rudder angle 35。~5。, were found to be 2.6。15.0 times the Lpp of S.T HAELIM-3 at her slow speed 2.8~16.6 times her Lpp at her half speed, 3.1~17.4 times her Lpp at her full speed. The tactical diameter by the dumb card was found to be 2.4~9.5 times, 2.6~9.6 times, 3.2~12.2 times her Lpp respectively, in the above case and speed.

  • In order to deliver a centimeter-level kinematic positioning solution with GPS carrier-phase measurements, it is prerequisite to use correctly resolved integer ambiguities. Based on the mathematical modeling of GPS network with application of its geometrical constraints, this research has investigated an instantaneous ambiguity resolution procedure for the so-called 'integer constrained least-squares' technique which can be effectively implemented in real-time structure monitoring. In this process, algorithms of quality control for the float solutions and hypothesis tests using the constrained baseline for the ambiguity validation are included to enhance reliability of the solutions. The proposed procedure has been implemented by MATLAB, the language of technical computing, and processed field trial data obtained at a cable-stayed bridge to access its real-world applicability. The results are summarized in terms of ambiguity successful rates, impact of the stochastical models, and computation time to demonstrate performance of the instantaneous ambiguity resolution proposed.

  • Recent development in wireless communication and mobile positioning technologies makes Location-Based Services (LBSs) popular. However, because, in the LBSs, users request a query to database servers by using their exact locations, the location information of the users can be misused by adversaries. Therefore, a mechanism for users' privacy protection is required for the safe use of LBSs by mobile users. For this, we, in this paper, propose a efficient cloaking region creation scheme using Hilbert curves in distributed grid environment, so as to protect users' privacy in LBSs. The proposed scheme generates a minimum cloaking region by analyzing the characteristic of a Hilbert curve and computing the Hilbert curve values of neighboring cells based on it, so that we may create a cloaking region to satisfy K-anonymity. In addition, to reduce network communication cost, we make use of a distributed hash table structure, called Chord. Finally, we show from our performance analysis that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing grid-based cloaking method.

  • For a high resolution real-time kinematic GPS surveying using carrier phase, positioning accuracy according to the OTF initialization was better than 1 cm with more than 5-minute initialization within 20 km baseline. Also, it is recommended that measurements be carried out when PDOP and RDOP can be kept less than 4.0 since the geometrical layout of satellites has a great influence on the positioning accuracy. After considering the initial conditions and measuring time zone for real-time kinematic GPS. post-processed continuous kinematic GPS and real-time kinematic GPS measurements have been carried out. A new system has been proposed to store measured data by using a program developed to store GPS data in real time and to monitor the satellite condition through controller at the time of measurement. As a result, it has been revealed that possible noise in surveying could be corrected and the accuracy could be improved.
