Development of tree box filter LID system for treating road runoff (LID 시설로서 도로에 적용 가능한 수목여과시설 개발)

  • The aim of this study was to develop a tree box filter system, an example of Low Impact Development technology, for treating stormwater runoff from road. Monitoring of storm events was performed between June 2011 and November 2012 to evaluate the system performance during wet day. Based on the results, all runoff volume generated by rainfall less than 2 mm was stored in the system. The minimum volume reduction of 20% was observed in the system for rainfall greater than 20 mm. The greatest removal efficiency was exhibited by the system for total heavy metals ranging from 70 to 73% while satisfactory removal efficiency was exhibited by the system for particulate matters, organic matters and nutrients ranging from 60 to 68%. The system showed greater pollutant removal efficiency of 67 to 83% for rainfall less than 10 mm compared to rainfall greater than 10 mm which has 39 to 75% pollutant removal efficiency. The system exhibited less pollutant reduction for rainfall greater than 10 mm due to the decreased retention capacity of the system for increased rainfall. Overall, the system has proved to be an option for stormwater management that can be recommended for on-site application. Similar system may be designed based on several factors such as rainfall depth, facility size and pollutant removal efficiency.

General Composition of Mozzarella Cheese Made from Concentrated Milk Derived by Ultrafiltration (한외여과 농축유로 제조한 모짜렐라 치즈의 일반성분 조성에 관한 연구)

  • We compared the general composition of Mozzarella cheese manufactured by the traditional method and by an ultrafiltration technique. The comparison of the general components between raw milk and the retentate of ultrafiltration (CF 2 and CF 3) demonstrated the following. The fat, protein, and non-fat solid contents of the retentate were higher than those of raw milk, but the lactose content was lower. The effect of 3 factors-fat content (0.5% and 3%), bacterial populations (30,000 CFU/mL and 100,000 CFU/mL), and ratio of added starter and rennet (50, 65, or 80)-on Mozzarella cheese made by the traditional method and made using the retentate of ultrafiltration (CF 2 and CF 3) were compared. Total solids (TS), fat, lactose, total nitrogen (TN), water soluble nitrogen (WSN), non-protein nitrogen (NPN), and salt (NaCl) were affected by fat content, bacterial population, and the ratio of starter and rennet added, but the ash content was not affected. During storage at $4^{\circ}C$ over a period of 3 months, the TS, WSN, NPN, and NaCl contents increased significantly (p<0.05), but fat, lactose, and TN contents decreased significantly (p<0.05), while ash contents remained constant. In whey, the protein, lactose, and solids not fat contents were higher in cheese made from ultrafiltration retentate than in traditional Mozzarella cheese. These results indicate that ultrafiltration can be applied to producing several Mozzarella-type cheeses in order to meet consumer needs.

An Improved Online Algorithm to Minimize Total Error of the Imprecise Tasks with 0/1 Constraint (0/1 제약조건을 갖는 부정확한 태스크들의 총오류를 최소화시키기 위한 개선된 온라인 알고리즘)

  • The imprecise real-time system provides flexibility in scheduling time-critical tasks. Most scheduling problems of satisfying both 0/1 constraint and timing constraints, while the total error is minimized, are NP-complete when the optional tasks have arbitrary processing times. Liu suggested a reasonable strategy of scheduling tasks with the 0/1 constraint on uniprocessors for minimizing the total error. Song et at suggested a reasonable strategy of scheduling tasks with the 0/1 constraint on multiprocessors for minimizing the total error. But, these algorithms are all off-line algorithms. In the online scheduling, the NORA algorithm can find a schedule with the minimum total error for the imprecise online task system. In NORA algorithm, EDF strategy is adopted in the optional scheduling. On the other hand, for the task system with 0/1 constraint, EDF_Scheduling may not be optimal in the sense that the total error is minimized. Furthermore, when the optional tasks are scheduled in the ascending order of their required processing times, NORA algorithm which EDF strategy is adopted may not produce minimum total error. Therefore, in this paper, an online algorithm is proposed to minimize total error for the imprecise task system with 0/1 constraint. Then, to compare the performance between the proposed algorithm and NORA algorithm, a series of experiments are performed. As a conseqence of the performance comparison between two algorithms, it has been concluded that the proposed algorithm can produce similar total error to NORA algorithm when the optional tasks are scheduled in the random order of their required processing times but, the proposed algorithm can produce less total error than NORA algorithm especially when the optional tasks are scheduled in the ascending order of their required processing times.

Quality characteristics of farm-made brown rice vinegar via traditional static fermentation (전통정치배양에 의한 농가형 현미식초의 품질특성)

  • We investigated the quality characteristics of brewing brown rice vinegar through a traditional static fermentation process. Accordingly, we decided to compare the physicochemical characteristics of brewing vinegar at different temperatures and filtration methods. In four to five weeks' time, the acetic acid fermentation exhibited the highest titratable acidity and then it eventually decreased. The titratable acidity was affected by the filtration method. It was revealed that the titratable acidity was higher in the forced filtration than the traditional filtration method. Various organic acids were detected in order to initialize the fermentation stage and as the fermentation progressed, only the acetic acid could be detected. The total free amino acid content was higher at a temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ than at $20^{\circ}C$. Moreover, the free amino acid content was dependent on the acetate content during the acetic fermentation process. The main bioactive substance of the ${\gamma}$-aminobutyric acid content was more than twice at a fermentation temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ compared to the fermentation temperature of $20^{\circ}C$. Furthermore, the total amino acid and essential amino acid content at a temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ was excellent. The quality of the brown rice vinegar via forced filtration method at a temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ was the most excellent. Based on these results, the fermentation temperature and the use of nuruks (fermenting agent) affected the quality of the brown rice vinegar, and an appropriate method to consider its purpose is required.

  • Purpose Glomerular Filtration Rate(GFR) is an important indicator for evaluating renal function and monitoring the progress of renal disease. Currently, the method of measuring GFR in clinical trials by using serum creatinine value and 99mTc-DTPA(diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid) renal dynamic scan is still useful. After the Gates method of formula was announced, when 99mTc-DTPA Renal dynamic scan is taken, it is applied the GFR is measured using a gamma camera. The purpose of this paper is to measure the GFR by applying the Gates method of formula. It is according to effect activity and matrix size that is related in the GFR. Materials and Methods Data from 5 adult patients (patient age = 62 ± 5, 3 males, 2 females) who had been examined 99mTc-DTPA Renal dynamic scan were analyzed. A dynamic image was obtained for 21 minutes after instantaneous injection of 99mTc-DTPA 15 mCi into the patient's vein. To evaluate the glomerular filtration rate according to changes in activity and matrix size, total counts were measured after setting regions of interest in both kidneys and tissues in 2-3 minutes. The distance from detector to the table was maintained at 30cm, and the capacity of the pre-syringe (PR) was set to 15, 20, 25, 30 mCi, and each the capacity of post-syringe (PO) was 1, 5, 10, 15 mCi is set to evaluate the activity change. And then, each matrix size was changed to 32 × 32, 64 × 64, 128 × 128, 256 × 256, 512 × 512, and 1024 × 1024 to compare and to evaluate the values. Results As the activity increased in matrix size, the difference in GFR gradually decreased from 52.95% at the maximum to 16.67% at the minimum. The GFR value according to the change of matrix size was similar to 2.4%, 0.2%, 0.2% of difference when changing from 128 to 256, 256 to 512, and 512 to 1024, but 54.3% of difference when changing from 32 to 64 and 39.43% of difference when changing from 64 to 128. Finally, based on the presently used protocol, 256 × 256, PR 15 mCi and PO 1 mCi, the GFR value was the largest difference with 82% in PR 15 mCi and PO 1 mCi. conditions, and at the least difference is 0.2% in the conditions of PR 30 mCi and PO 15 mCi. Conclusion Through this paper, it was confirmed that when measuring the GFR using the gate method in the 99mTc-DTPA renal dynamic scan. The GFR was affected by activity and matrix size changes. Therefore, it is considered that when taking the 99mTc-DTPA renal dynamic scan, is should be careful by applying appropriate parameters when calculating GFR in the every hospital.

Comparision of Signal-Averaged Electrocardiography (SAECG) Determined by Flank Lead System (FLS) and Pyramidal Lead System (PLS) in Healthy Young Adults (정상 성인의 직교유도체제와 피라미드유도체제에 의한 신호 가산 평균심전도의 비교)

  • It has recently become possible to record electrical activity originating from abnormally conducting myocardium from the body surface with high - gain amplification and averaging technique. These signals, which result from delayed ventricular activation(late potentials), have been recorded in patients with documented ventricular tachyarrythmia. Several electrode lead system for detecting ventricular late potential were introduced. Pyramidal electrode lead system(PLS) is useful. Also interpretation of SAECG in the young could be of value in detecting those at risk for episodic ventricular tachycardia, but suffer from a lack of data in normal young people. Selection of subjects : For this study, normal healthy young adult volunteers (age: mean 24 years) were recruited from the medical students at Yeungnam University Hospital, Internal Medicine. Twenty fourths male and seventeenths female subjects were selected. All subjects had normal resting ECGs as judged from both the standard 12 channel lead and echocardiography, and none had a history of cardiovascular disease. All subjects were considered to be in good general physical condition. Signal-averaged electrocardiography : In order to obtain low noise recordings with a small number of averaging cycles, all subject ware asked to relax completely in the supine position. Silver/silver chloride electrodes were attached after the skin was cleaned with alcohol, to constitute classic flank lead system(FLS) and pyramidal lead system(PLS). Signals were recorded and processed using a commercially available microprocessor-augmented ECG cart(Marquette Electronics, USA) suitable for portable bedside recording. There was no difference between normal values, determined by FLS and PLS at high pass filtering of 25 Hz and 80 Hz, but significant, difference was found in HFLAD and RMS-40 of 40 Hz(p<0.05). These results will provide a basis for interpretations of SAECG, determined by FLS and PLS in healthy young adults with normal QRS duration.

Changes of Physicochemical Properties during Fermentation of Peach Wine and Quality Improvement by Ultrafiltration (복숭아주 발효시 이화학적 특성변화와 한외여과에 의한 품질 향상)

  • Peach wine was fermented at $25^{\circ}C$ for 2 weeks using Saccharomyces cerevisiae KCCM 12224, aged at 15$^{\circ}C$ for 14 weeks, and its physicochemical and microbiological changes were investigated. The viable bacterial cell numbers, 1.4$\times$10$^3$ CFU/mL at the beginning of fermentation, increased to 2.8$\times$10$^{6}$ CFU/mL after 2 weeks, but decreased to 7.0$\times$10$^3$ CFU/mL after 14 weeks. The viable yeast cell numbers were changed from 3.4$\times$10$^2$ CFU/mL to 2.4$\times$10$^{7}$ CFU/mL during fermentation, and decreased to 4.0$\times$10$^4$ CFU/mL after aging. Turbidity total sugar content, reducing sugar content, solid content and b value of peach wine decreased during fermentation but acidity, alcohol content, L and a value increased. Most physicochemical properties except alcohol content and reducing sugar content were not changed significantly during aging. When peach wine was filtered through 0.45 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ nitrocellulose membrane followed by various ultrafiltration membranes with different molecular weight cut-off values, Biomax 100K membrane, with 79 liter/$m^2$/h (LMH) of initial flux, was suitable for ultrafiltration process of peach wine. These membrane filtration treatments resulted in complete removal of microorganisms and decrease in turbidity and alcohol content without changes in other chemical properties. The physicochemical properties of peach wine were not changed and any microorganisms were not found during the storage at 3$0^{\circ}C$ for 12 Weeks.

Evaluation of Filtration and Backwash Efficiency of Non-point Source Pollution Reduction Facility (장치형 비점오염원 저감시설의 여과 및 역세 효율 평가)

  • Non-point source pollution is the emission source that unspecifically releases pollutants to water system from unspecific places such as cities, agricultural lands, mountains, and construction sites and its discharge path is not easily identified. Also, it is difficult to design and manage the reduction facilities for the emission quantity is primarily affected from weather conditions like rainfall. Since 2006, the significance of non-point source pollution reduction has been grown in Republic of Korea and this reinforces needs for the installation of reduction facilities. However, because the standards for the installation details and reduction efficiency are not clarified by law, people are preferring technologies that do not require particular maintenance and high expenses. The purpose of this study is to examine and maintain the efficiency of non-point source pollutants reduction facility which uses expended polypropylene as a media. The higher the depth of the media, the less range of variations in the reduction efficiency was observed and the final efficiency was also increased. When the media depth was 60 cm, the average reduction efficiency was 94% and 90% where linear velocities were 10 m/hr and 20 m/hr respectively. The results from 180 minutes operation in 10 m/hr and 20 m/hr of linear velocities were slightly different in head loss changes which were caused by media depth variations. The backwash experiments which were conducted in triplicate showed the reduction efficiency decreased as the time went on because of the media clogging. However, it was found that after the backwashing the reduction efficiency was increased as effective as the efficiency of the initial filtration.

  • This paper was performed research for the total filtration in the useful beam of 45 diagnostic x-ray equipments using in Korea. We obtained the following results: 1. A good ability of total filtration was showed in higher than lower maximum permissible rating equipments. 2. In 53 percentage of 45 diagnostic x-ray equipments, the total filtration in the useful x-ray beam was not less than the values given in the Korean industrial standard. This results suggested to user to need the more ability management of diagnostic x-ray equipments using now.
