  • Transesterifications of vegetable oils (soybean oil, grapeseed oil, corn oil, canola oil) by ultrasonic energy were examined on various catalysts for biodiesel production. Reaction activities of the transesterifications were evaluated to the ultrasonic energy and thermal energy. The physicochemical properties and product distribution were also investigated to the biodiesels produced from the oils in the reaction using ultrasonic energy. The yields of fatty acid methyl ester (FAME) on the alkali catalysts were higher than those on the acid catalysts. The highest FAME yield was obtained as 83% on potassium hydroxide catalyst in the transesterification. The effective reaction conditions by ultrasonic energy were 1 wt% catalyst loading and 6:1 molar ratio of methanol to vegetable oils. The reaction rate of the transesterification by ultrasonic energy was faster than that by thermal energy. The acid values of the biodiesel products were improved above 30% compared to those of the feedstocks.

  • In this study, effects of the ultrasonic irradiation during the reaction process were investigated for the enantioselective kinetic resolution (EKR) reaction of racemic epoxides in the presence of chiral cobalt salen catalysts, as compared to that of using the conventional mechanical stirring. In order to compare catalytic activities, the chiral cobalt salen complexes having $AlCl_3-$, $BF_3-$ and nitrobenzenesulfonic acid (NBSA) were synthesized and used as catalysts, and then three kinds of the racemic epoxides such as ephichlorohydrine (ECH), epoxy phenoxypropane (EPP) and propylene oxide (PO) were used as reactants. In addition, EKR reactions have been performed using the water and methanol as nucleophiles, respectively. The unique contribution of ultrasonic irradiation as a powerful mixing medium was evaluated in this study to improve the kinetics in comparison to the conventional mechanical agitation during EKR reactions. The reaction time to obtain the highest 99 ee% became shorten more than that of above 60%, when the ultrasonic irradiation was used. This result may be interpreted by the cavitation effect of ultrasound in the solution, generating a powerful shear force for the very violent mixing.

  • There are many methods to synthesize polystyrene latex. Emulsion polymerization technique is commonly used commercially, but it requires a new technology to replace a traditional polymerization method because of the disadvantage of chemical initiator for environmental pollution. Since free radicals can be produced by ultrasound energy effect, polystyrene latex was synthesized using ultrasound energy instead of chemical initiator. As the ultrasonic irradiation time was increased, average molecular weight was increased and polydispersity was decreased. The degree of polymerization was increased with the concentration of SDS and maximum degree of polymerization was shown at 2wt.% SDS concentration and the reaction temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. During the course of polymerization, molecular weight was repeatedly fluctuated because of occurrence of depolymerization. Narrow molecular weight distribution polystyrene latex having controlled molecular weight was synthesized by controlling ultrasonic irradiation time and the concentration of SDS.

  • Submicron copper-silver core-shell (Cu@Ag) particles were synthesized using the sonochemical combined transmetallation reaction and the application to printed electronics as a low cost conductive paste was evaluated. $Cu_2O$ of the $Cu_2O/Cu$ composite used as a core in the reaction for the synthesis of core-shell was sonochemically reduced to Cu, and Cu atoms functioned as a reducer for silver ions in transmetallation to achieve the copper-silver core-shell structure. The characterization of submicron particles by TEM-EDS and TG-DSC confirmed the core-shell structure. Conductive pastes in which 70 wt% Cu@Ag was dispersed in solvents were prepared using a binder and wetting agents, and coated on the polyamide film using a screen-printing method. Printed paste films containing synthesized Cu@Ag particles with 8 at% and 16 at% Ag exhibited low resistivity of 96.2 and $38.4{\mu}{\Omega}cm$ after sintering at $180^{\circ}C$ in air, respectively.

The highest yields of FAME were obtained as 80% in 5 min and the reaction equilibrium reached at that time.

  • Sonic waves (50KHz) was accelerated the oxidation reaction of primary, benzyl and secondary alcohol with $BaMnO_4\;and\;KMnO_4-CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_2O$ to give the corresponding aldehyde and ketone at $30^{\circ}C/1$ atm. in high yields compared to stirring or refluxing condition.

Analysis of the Accuracy about Abdominal Ultrasonography and Clinical Chemical Test with Fatty Liver Patients on the Medical Examination (종합검진 후 지방간 환자의 복부 초음파 검사와 임상화학적 검사결과의 정확성 분석)

  • Ultrasonography is one of the fields on the imaging studies within intra-abdominal organs. A blood test is a typical method of clinical chemical examination on the in vivo test of clinical symptoms. Fatty liver is performed simultaneously two kinds of diagnostics methods, intra-abdominal ultrasound and blood tests. At an implementing this, the standard of blood tests value was the TBIL, TC, AST, ALT, ALP, GGT, TG, HDL-C, GLU. In this study analyzing the accuracy of the two kinds of test, ultrasonography and blood test, on patients with fatty liver. From January to March 2012, patients 459 determined fatty liver within 1350, who received health examination simultaneously on the intra-abdominal ultrasonography and blood tests. Same result of ultrasonography and blood test's patients were 459 ie, 60.8%. and different result of those examinations was 280 ie, 39.2%. Consequently diagnostic accuracy was 60.8%. It presumably caused by differences in the diagnostic performance of ultrasound professionals(Radiologist or Radiological Technologist). In order to overcome this, ongoing educational and study will be needed.

  • 일반적으로 초음파 유량계에서 초음파를 발생하고 수신하는 압전세라믹 진동자의 특성상 $200^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서는 사용이 불가하여, 각종 화학공정, plant, 발전소 등에서는 사용에 한계를 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 $400^{\circ}C$ 이상의 유체 흐름을 측정할 수 있는 고온용 초음파 유량계를 설계하고 그 특성을 평가하였다. 우선 고온의 유체에서 압전진동자부로의 열전달이 최소화되도록 트랜스듀서 구조를 도출하고 그 타당성을 유한요소해석을 통하여 검증하였다. 해석을 위해 상용 해석프로그램인 ANSYS를 이용하여 열전달 해석을 실시하였으며, 최종 선정 모델을 제작, 평가하였다.

  • Sonochemical synthesis of fullerene oxides $[C_{70}O_n](n=1{\sim}2)$ by fullerene$[C_{70}]$ and metal hexacarbonyl complexes $M(CO)_6$(M=Cr, Mo, W) took place under air atmosphere. The reactivity of fullerene$[C_{70}]$ and several metal hexacarbonyl complexes $M(CO)_6$(M=Cr, Mo, W) under same ultrasonic condition increased in the order of $Mo(CO)_6$ > $W(CO)_6$ > $Cr(CO)_6$. The MALDI-TOF-MS, UV-visible spectra, and HPLC analysis confirmed that the products of sonochemical reaction were $[C_{70}O_n](n=1{\sim}2)$.
