  • This study points out that the angle sum of a triangle and the property of parallel lines are taught without showing any relations between them on elementary school mathematics textbooks. This study looks into the structure of Euclid Elements so that it discusses about the contents of current Korean textbooks. The property of the alternate angles and the corresponding angles of parallel lines are inherent in many subjects in Elementary school mathematics, and have meaning that must be thought with the angle sum of triangles in the structure of Euclid Elements. With this consideration, this study makes a conclusion that these two subjects should be taught by presenting relations between them.

  • This study focused on the classification of triangles by angles in elementary school mathematics. We examined Korean national mathematics curriculum from the past to the present. We also examined foreign textbooks and the Euclid's . As a result, it showed that the classification is not indispensable from the mathematical and the perceptual viewpoint. It is rather useful for students to know the names of triangles when studying upper level mathematics in middle and high schools. This study also suggested that the classification be introduced in elementary school mathematics in the context of reasoning and inquiring as shown foreign textbooks, and example topics for the reasoning and inquiring.

  • In this paper, the teaching contents for angle and measure of an angle in elementary mathematics textbook between Korea and Japan were compared. From this comparison, the following five suggestions were presented as implications to improve the teaching contents for angle and measure of an angle in elementary mathematics textbook in Korea. First, it is necessary to reconsider the way of the definition of angle. There is no use of half line in elementary mathematics, except when to define angle, and the way to define angle and the way to define right angle are not consistent. Second, considering to associate the turning of plane geometrical figures to the $90^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$, $270^{\circ}$, $360^{\circ}$ is necessary, and associating them is connected to dealing with point-symmetrical shapes in the fifth grade. Third, there is a need to deal with "the measures of angles are same." in comparing angles. This is possible by superimposing two angles in comparing the measures of them. Fourthly, it is necessary to consider the introduction of the rotational angle. Dealing with the $360^{\circ}$ as the rotational angle is related to explaining that the sum of measures of interior angles in quadrangle is $360^{\circ}$. Fifth, it is necessary to be connected with middle school mathematics curriculum. The term 'straight angle' is used in middle school, and to obtain the sum of the measures of the interior angles of a regular polygon is the contents to be dealt with in middle school.

  • At the time when textbooks were developed and applied according to the 2015 revised curriculum and At the time of developing new test textbooks, it is necessary to examine the contents of the textbooks based on the 2015 revised curriculum and the responses of field teachers. Therefore, this study conducted a questionnaire survey for elementary school teachers on how teachers perceive and evaluate elementary mathematics textbooks (math textbooks, mathematics learning books, teacher guidebooks) developed and applied based on the 2015 revised curriculum. The results were analyzed.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to analyze and compare 'Game Activities' of elementary mathematics textbooks developed in the national curriculum revised in 2015, and to find suggestions to improve 'Game Activities' of the textbooks based on the results. The main results of this study are as follows. First, as for materials, various types of materials were used in 'Game Activities'. Also, more various materials were included in 2nd grade textbooks and 1st, 2nd grade teacher's guidebooks than 1st grade textbooks. Second, this study analyzed the patterns of organization. The result showed that group and pair activities accounted for the highest rate among other patterns of organizations. Textbooks should include more pattern types of organizations that teachers could use them properly according to numbers of students in classes. For the 'Game Activities', students need to understand basic concepts of the chapter first. Students with lower levels would have difficulty participating in the 'Game Activities'. Thus, there is a need to include activities for students with lower levels in teachers' guidebooks, reflecting a variety of students levels.

  • A transition from elementary to secondary school, and among grades, among learning contents is a essential problem in education. A connectivity between learning contents is important in student's growth and development. A gap between lower grades and higher grades in elementary school is no less extensive than a gap between elementary mathematics and secondary mathematics. In this paper, we start with a critical mind about a transition and connectivity between lower grades and higher grades in elementary school. In order to compare between elementary grades, we firstly focus 4th grade mathematics which finish lower grades and start higher grades at the same time. First, we make up a questionnaire to 4th grade students and teachers in charge 4th grade. A questionnaire is composed of questions about the degree of difficulty in the learning(and teaching) of 4th grade mathematics comparing with 3rd grade mathematics. Second, we compare to lower grades lessons(1st grade) and 4th grade lessons using a qualitative method. we analyze the lesson contents, activities and time through 'analysis of the learning course'. And we compare the pattern of eliciting questions, question patterns, nomination patterns and feedback patterns between 1st grade and 4th grade lessons. We hope that this paper is a fundamental sources in investigating a connectivity between lower grades and higher grades in elementary mathematics in the future.

  • This paper analyzed the contents and instructional methods of various plane figures presented mainly in a series of elementary mathematics textbooks on the basis of the analysis of related contents in the 2007 revised national mathematics curriculum. As such, this paper provided detailed analyses of how textbooks would implement the vision and intention of the curriculum, how the definition of each plane figure in the textbooks might be different from its mathematical definition, and how textbooks would introduce each plane figure. It is expected that the issues and suggestions stemming from this analysis will be informative in designing new instructional materials.

  • Word problems can lead learners to more meaningfully learn mathematics by providing learners with various problem-solving experiences and guiding them to apply mathematical knowledge to the context. This study attempted to provide implications for the textbook writing and teaching and learning process by examining the word problem of elementary mathematics textbooks from the perspective of practical context. The word problem of elementary mathematics textbooks was examined, and elementary mathematics textbooks in the United States and Finland were referenced to find specific alternatives. As a result, when setting an unnatural context or subject to the word problem in elementary mathematics textbooks, artificial numbers were inserted or verbal expressions and illustrations were presented unclearly. In this case, it may be difficult for learners to recognize the context of the word problem as separate from real life or to solve the problem by understanding the content required by the word problem. In the future, it is necessary to organize various types of word problems in practical contexts, such as setting up situations in consideration of learners in textbooks, actively using illustrations and diagrams, and organizing verbal expressions and illustrations more clearly.

  • In this study, we aim to search the utilization plan of primary 3-4 mathematics textbooks for 'Flipped Classroom' practice. In the flipped classroom, students are required to manipulate more rigorous concepts, deal with realistic problems and various activities, and discussions. Researcher analyzed the new mathematics textbooks of primary 3-4 grade that is applied 2014. The criteria of analysis was made of the instructional model for 'Flipped Classroom' that was set up by previous researcher. To practice the flipped classroom, teachers need to design their classes carefully for using selectively many materials of the textbooks to make students participate discussion in the classroom actively and to consider their interests and levels.

  • The properties of arithmetic are considered as essential to understand the principles of calculation and develop effective strategies for calculation in the elementary school level, thanks to agreement on early algebra. Therefore elementary students' misunderstanding of the properties of arithmetic might cause learning difficulties as well as misconcepts in their following learning processes. This study aims to provide elementary teachers a part of pedagogical content knowledge about the properties of arithmetic and to induce some didactical implications for teaching the properties of arithmetic in the elementary school level. To do this, elementary school mathematics textbooks since the period of the first curriculum were analyzed. These results from analysis show which properties of arithmetic have been taught, when they were taught, and how they were taught. Based on them, some didactical implications were suggested for desirable teaching of the properties of arithmetic.
