  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the influence of parenting and peers on youth engagement to pornography media, the fourth year data of the fourth-grade panel (first year at middle school) and the fourth-year data of the eighth-grade panel (first year at high school) were analyzed. The number of cases investigated for this panel study were 2,378 subjects among the fourth-year panel of the fourth grade and 2,361 subjects among the fourth-year panel of middle schoolers. But this study, the total of 720 subjects that the response were made in the pornography items are analyzed. The result of this study reveals that male students were more likely to be addicted to pornography than female students. Also, inconsistency and excessive intervention among the parenting attitudes and peer attachment and numbers of delinquent friens among the peer factors were shown to have influence on youth addiction to pornography. Based on such results, a proposal that a plan to increase the parental education and strengthen peer relationships is important ahead of the Controlled intervention in the meantime was made.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate what factors affect cyber-delinquency after examining the previous research focusing on the general strain theory and the delinquency opportunity theory in the existing studies. And as adolescents move from middle school to high school, this study is intended to analyze what factors affect cyber-delinquency from a longitudinal perspective using KCYPS(Korea Child and Youth Panel Survey) elementary 4th grade fourth and seventh data. The adolescence cyber-delinquency probability of occurrence were analyzed through the panel logit fixed-effect model using STATA. And then the cyber-delinquency frequency of adolescents were analyzed through the panel tobit random-effect model. As a result of analyzing the factors affecting cyber-delinquency frequency, Adult media commitment, computer use time, and cell phone dependency increased cyber-delinquency frequency. On the other hand, among the parenting attitudes, the attitude of supervising attentively and adolescents' age-increasing decreased cyber-delinquency frequency.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the experiences of neglect on adolescent smart phone dependency, exploring the pathways through self-resilience and alienation. Methods: This study utilized the 7th wave data from the Korean Child Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), and the sample included 1,805 participants with no missing data. The data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 and AMOS 23.0 programs. Results: First, the experiences of neglect directly affected adolescent smart phone dependency. Second, the experiences of neglect indirectly affect smart phone dependency partially mediated by self resilience and alienation. Conclusions: The ways to prevent adolescent smart phone dependency were discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was empirical verification of the effect of adolescents' truancy experience on the self-awareness and emotional problems. For this, using the data of 2016 in the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey(KCYPS), we compared and analyzed using t-test and multiple regression analysis the self-awareness and emotional problems of adolescents who experienced truancy and adolescents who did not. As a result of the analysis, adolescents with truancy experience had relatively low self-awareness, and statistically significant but low scores in self-identity and career identity. However, there was a clear difference in emotional problems, and truancy adolescents scored high in attention, aggression, physical symptoms, and depression. This proved that adolescents with experience of truancy were more exposed to emotional problems, and it was necessary to develop a support system and program for this.

  • Usually unit-nonresponse or item-nonresponse occurs in the survey. In case the rate of nonresponse is high, the analysis ignoring nonresponse may cause the wrong effect. The characterization of nonresponse is required. In a cross-sectional data, it is possible to study the characteristics of item-nonresponse but it is hard to study the characteristics of the unit-nonresponse. In order to identify the characteristics of the unit-nonresponse, this study used the first-year student of middle schools in the Korea children and youth panel survey (KCYPS) data. We investigated the handling situation of nonresponse and analyzed the characteristics of the unit-nonresponse. Most of the papers applied the way of getting rid of nonresponse, so that there was little paper using weights. In this paper, we compared the results of the analyses depending on whether the weight is used or not. The method of using weights showed statistically significant results much more than that of removing. More discussion will be needed.

  • The purpose of the current study was to investigate the causal relationship between school life adjustment and life satisfaction among adolescents through longitudinal panel data. The current study analyzed the 1st through 7th wave data in the 4th grade panel of elementary school from the Korea Children and Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS). The research model was tested using auto-regressive cross-lagged model. The major results were as follows. First, adolescents' school life adjustment had a positive auto-regressive effect. Second, adolescents' life satisfaction had a positive auto-regressive effect. Third, adolescents' school life adjustment was a causal predictor of life satisfaction, but not vice versa. Finally, implications in terms of enhancing adolescents' school life adjustment and life satisfaction were also discussed.

  • We introduced the methodologies used to construct the longitudinal weights and cross-sectional weight that are required for the analysis of Korea Youth Panel Survey. To analyze the longitudinal dynamic change of the population, we derived the longitudinal weight through nonresponse adjustment based on logistic regression and post-stratification. Cross-sectional weights that are necessary to produce an asymptotically unbiased estimator of the population parameter were constructed through simple nonresponse adjustment based on overall response rate and post-stratification.

  • The purposes of this study is to analyze gender difference in predictors of mobile phone dependency in youth. The analysis is performed with third-year panel survey data of middle school 1st grade students from Korean Child-Youth Panel Survey. The results are as follows. First, the female students' mobile phone dependency is more serious than the male students' mobile phone dependency. Second, while the identified male gender predictors are aggression, parental abuse, aprosexia, study activity and social withdrawal, the identified female gender predictors are depression, aprosexia, aggression, study activity and social withdrawal. Based on these results, theoretical and practical implications in planning of prevention or intervention of mobile phone dependency are proposed.

  • The purposes of this study are to analyze how effects of parental attitudes, Sense of Community on adolescents school adjustment and verified was the mediating effect of Sense of Community between parenting attitudes and adolescents school adjustment. For data analysis, we have use the first year data for the 1st year middle schol students from 'the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey, conducted in 2010' by the National Youth Policy Institute. The study shows that parenting attitudes and Sense of Community have a significant effect on adolescents school adjustment. And, the Sense of Community have a significant partial mediating effect among on parental attitudes and school adjustment. Thus, efforts to foster individual's Sense of Community and develop desirable parenting attitudes should be made to enhance the level of school adjustment.

  • The present study examined the capacity of Korean adolescents' self-esteem to buffer against the negative impact of academic stress on self-control. Based on the prevention science perspective, the conceptual framework for this study was developed from the strength model of self-control. Data for the present study were taken from the fourth wave of Korean Youth Panel Study. A sample of 2,169 students in the eleventh grade was analyzed to identify relationships between the study variables. As expected, self-esteem moderated the association between academic stress and self-control. Implications for the study findings are discussed.
