  • As spreading of train concrete ballast leads to the increase resounding friction noise, an porous sound absorbing block is applied in urban train tunnel as a counterparts against the friction noise. Three steps of major variables tests for an optimal mix design of the block are conducted to pursue the light weight of the block. Pilot property tests of the block for the cases of the fly-ash only as lightweight aggregates are carried satisfying KRT(Korean Rail Transit) and new KRS(Korean Railway Standards). Based on the results of pilot tests, required structural strength and admixture effects are evaluated. Additionally, typical lightweight aggregates are replaced so that lightweight and strength are improved for serviceability of poor working conditions and proper maintenance in urban train tunnel.

  • KS-code(KS B 0896) for nondestructive ultrasonic testing classifies the quality level by ratio of flaw size to plate thickness only. But stress distributions using verification(3 point bending test) show that location of the flaws is more important than the flaw size. So. KS-code should take the effect of flaw location for classifying the quality level of welded steel structures.

  • Recently, the premature corrosion for reinforced concrete structure exposed to chloride bring about a serious problem in concrete structures. Specially, the concrete structures of sea coast are exposed much to chloride which make rapid corrosion. Thus, construction activities and maintenances for marine facilities are more demanded than those for land structures. The results of this study have been analysed to identify the extent of chloride content and incidence of carbonation for construction age. After measuring chloride content in concrete, it was conclued that about 90% of all tests on concrete samples exceed the acceptable maximum limit to risk of chloride-induced carbonation. The carbonation rate coffnient by age of train structures in the east eatimated 6. 55, 4.76 grater than 3. 727. In the basis of this result, it is necessary to maintenance for the important train facilities with the regular tests of chloride and carbonation.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate shear strengthening effects of R/C beams with carbon fiber sheets. The major variables are shear reinforcement ratios, CFS strengthening ratios and strengthening methods of CFS. Following conclusions can be extracted. The shear capacity of beam strengthened with CFS is about 32~87% higher than that of beams without shear reinforcement. The strengthening effects of patch type is larger than those of strip type. The strain distribution in CFS intersected with shear crack is similar to that in stirrup and larger strain is observed in the middle of the shear span. It can be estimated that shear strength reduction factor ${\alpha}$=0.3 is appropriate for peeling effect of CFS.

  • The condition assessment of bridges is one of the important procedures in the safety evaluation of the structures. The current inspection guideline is rather ambiguous and vague so that the inspection results based on the existing guidelines are highly subjective and varing from person to person and even day to day for a given person. It is therefore, necessary to improve the current inspection criteria in order to provide consistent results in safety assessment. To circumvent possible inconsistencies in inspection and rating of bridge components, the revised criteria have been proposed in this study. The proposed guideline and criteria may be efficiently used for the realistic and consistent assessment of bridge structures.

  • To study the behavior a deck when it was collide with the ship approaching to the deck to berth, it was analyzed the effect zone by the ship collision which consists of deck slab and PC piles of the quay. The numerical technique is used to simulate the behavior of the deck when the ship hit the expansion joint of deck between the deck slabs. The failure behavior and zone of the deck are determinated by the comprehensive numerical study. The impact energy by the ship is also evaluated. It is concluded that these numerical analysis gave a reasonable estimation of the remedial area of the deck damaged by ship collision.

  • In this paper, It is the effect of using fiber sheet (Carbon Fiber Sheet & Aramid Fiber Sheet) and Steel Plate for reinforced concrete beam. 25 specimens are tested, 16 specimens are for bending capacity and the other are for shear capacity. In the case of bending testing, the kind and quantity of the reinforcement materials, the bondage and the existence of crack were selected as experimental variables. In the case of shear testing, It is testified the effect of reinforcement with the variables of the method of reinforcement (side type and U type). As a result, Using the reinforcing materials can increase the capacity of bending and shear stress.

  • Currently, the inspection of bridges is conduced for the parts or elements of a bridges and the results of inspection are depicted for those local elements. Therefore, the representative rating of a bridge as a whole bridge system is not presented. The purpose of the present study is to purpose a reasonable method which can yield realistic representative rating for an actual bridge. The purpose method consists of two steps, i.e, visual inspection step and safety assessment step. The importance of members is considered by introducing the weighting factors and the number of spans is also considered to obtain the representative rating of a whole bridge system. The purpose method may be efficiently used to calculate the realistic representative rating bridge structures.

  • The team mixed PbO, $ZrO_2$, $TiO_2$, $Nb_2O_5$ and $MnCO_3$, to make $Pb[(Zr_{0.54}\;Ti_{0.46})\;Nb_{0.005}]O_3+4%MnCO_3$. The electroded PZT ceramics were poled by 3 kV/mm at $110^{\circ}C$ for 600 s. We assembled the 0.4mm thick PZT slices into ultrasonic transducers. Central frequency of the probe is 5 MHz, which is proper to the thickness gauge for steel pipes and for flaw detector. The probe can detect a disk shape defect of 1mm diameter at 15cm deep in steel block. The new probe's Fresnel zone that the ultrasonic beam do not broaden is 13mm. Over the Fresnel zone, the ultrasonic beam spreads. Half of the beam spread angle of the probe is $4.3^{\circ}-4.6^{\circ}$. This probe can be used for the ultrasonic transducers for non-destructive testing of steel bridges.
