The purpose of this study is to identify possibility of a mathematical problem posing ability by presenting problem posing tasks with different degrees of structure according to the study of Stoyanova and Ellerton(1996). Also, the results of this study suggest the direction of gifted elementary mathematics education to increase mathematical creativity. The research results showed that mathematical problem posing ability is likely to be a factor in identification of gifted students, and suggested directions for problem posing activities in education for mathematically gifted by investigating the characteristics of original problems. Although there are many criteria that distinguish between gifted and ordinary students, it is most desirable to utilize the measurement of fluency through the well-structured problem posing tasks in terms of efficiency, which is consistent with the findings of Jo Seokhee et al. (2007). It is possible to obtain fairly good reliability and validity in the measurement of fluency. On the other hand, the fact that the problem with depth of solving steps of 3 or more is likely to be a unique problem suggests that students should be encouraged to create multi-steps problems when teaching creative problem posing activities for the gifted. This implies that using multi-steps problems is an alternative method to identify gifted elementary students.

Recently, STEM education and improvement in creativity took a lot of attention in local and foreign educational programs, and the robot education is regarded as one of the answers which can achieve the objectives. The robot education is quite active locally in various ways including robot classes for after school program in elementary schools, a number of robot competitions, and education for the gifted. Under these circumstances, the qualification test for robot technology is developed to provide a standard for evaluating professional knowledge on robotics and is currently under consideration to be one of the government-approved qualification tests. However, compared to the robot classes for after school program, this test is not well recognized by most teachers in elementary and middle schools. This paper addresses and analyzes the current status of the test, in particular, backgrounds, qualification standards, organizing committee, intention of presenting questions, examples of problems used in the test, and demands raised by applicants, etc. Base on the analysis, some suggestions are made to establish a solid standard for evaluating robot technologies. It is suggested that the level of difficulty and contents covered should be properly adjusted considering the level of applicants. In addition, it is essential to provide well organized supplementary material for students and wide range of contents on robot technology. Finally, some efforts including cooperating with the robot classes for after school program should be made to invigorate the test.

This study explored the cognitive characteristics and learning needs of economically disadvantaged gifted students. Gifted students(n=99), economically disadvantaged gifted students(n=43), and non-gifted students(n=50) participated in intelligence and creativity tests, and took self assessments of meta-cognition, epistemological beliefs, learning style preferences, and personal time usage. Superior abstract reasoning ability of economically disadvantaged gifted students was found because their scores on Raven's Test had risen rapidly compared to the other groups. Economically disadvantaged gifted students showed similar high scores as the gifted student on the Torrance Tests of Creativity Thinking-Figural, but not on Verbal. They were found to have a perception of the positive relationships among effort, learning abilities, and values of learning integrated knowledge with a general plan. However, they showed lower meta-cognitive control abilities than the gifted students in learning management and strategies, epistemological beliefs in value of rational operations, and time usage for learning. It is necessary to assign economically disadvantaged gifted students a task with various step by step methods of approach because these students prefer a new and creative task to difficult ones. Instruction plans such as developing language and meta-cognitive abilities and practical application of learning content was proposed.
The purpose of this research is to find out the usefulness of the Mentorship program for gifted science students. The usability has been proved by the results from a survey of a group of mentorship education students. Among those surveyed some are the students a gifted science education institute in university. The purpose of this study was to suggest an instructional direction for improving scientific problem-finding ability. For this purpose, the present study made an in-depth analysis about activity on problem finding tasks of high school students in an ill-structured scientific problem situation. Subjects were divided into two groups (cooperative and individual) and two kinds of problem finding tasks were administered to two groups. Results indicated that a cooperative activity on problem finding happened to a series of steps exploring problem situation, expressing knowledge and experience, discussing provisional problems, creating various problems and selecting the best problem. Besides, a cooperative activity on problem finding depended heavily on prior knowledge and experience, and in the meantime, various scientific concepts turned out to naturally be expressed. As for the problems found out during a cooperative activity, their scores in creativity factors, including the degree of agreement in original problem selection came out to be on the whole, as excellent. In addition, the types of the problems found out in open problem situation showed that they were more various than those found out in closed problem situation. Subjects perceived that activity on problem finding had positive influence on scientific concept and science process skills. Findings of this study have the following educational implications: First, it is needed to prepare for educational environment that enables students to explore various knowledge and information. Second, the offering of various opportunities is needed to enlarge the scope of scientific knowledge and experience. Third, it is needed to prepare for a study atmosphere that lets students express their knowledge and experiences freely.
